The hotel lives up to its description of a tranquil venue in a lovely setting by the River Tweed. We had a spacious room with a decent view and everything we needed. Although the television was tiny, fortunately we don’t watch it when away, but not good for someone who does. The staff were friendly and helpful. Reading some reviews I thought there might be too many dogs in the restaurant-not a place I feel they should be-but we only saw one well behaved dog under its owner’s table. Breakfasts were good but our first evening meal of chicken with haggis was tasteless, fish and chips the second night was much better. Prices were reasonable.

We enjoyed our stay at Dryburgh Abbey. It is a lovely hotel and the staff were very helpful. They happily provided a jug of fresh milk for our room, when we asked. The room was well organised with a view of the Tweed and a comfy bed. The breakfast menu had a range of choices that suited our needs. The hotel is not too far from the A68, with some lovely countryside to drive through, including the stunning view point known as 'Scott's View'.

We were only here one night and had to leave early in the morning for flight from EDI. We wished we had stayed for several nights. The surrounding area was very pretty and found some nice shops in nearby Melrose. Unfortunately, the Melrose Abbey was closed for renovation and we arrived too late to visit Dryburgh Abbey but peaking over the fence it looks very interesting. Diner at hotel was great and very relaxing. We had originally planned for this to be our once in a lifetime trip to Scotland but we liked this hotel so much we are tempted to come again and make this a central part of the visit. They are in the very quaint border region just over an hour from EDI. Sure you have to drive on the left side and many of the roads are of the single lane type but clinch your teeth and get behind the wheel because it is well worth it.

Our mistake, we should have booked several days at Dryburgh Abbey Hotel instead of just one night!

Dinner time had to be pre-booked which was not an issue, however, waited 35 mins for food to be served, again, not an issue, however, could have been if had restricted timeframe to eat before going somewhere! Food was very well cooked and enjoyable when arrived. Breakfast was self service which was, again, not an issue, however, due to unplanned numbers for breakfast and shortage of staff the tables were all full of dirty dishes and some of the items in the heated dishes were cold as the lids had not been replaced. Shortage of clean dishes for cereal . However, very good selection of food and well cooked and very tasty. The bedroom was suitable for our needs, although dust was hiding in places the duster had not reached but overall clean and comfortable and the en-suite was clean and hot water for showers was great. Extremely pleased to be able to take dog into the rooms and with us to eat. The grounds were beautiful and the general atmosphere was relaxing.

Nothing to complain about.

From the minute we arrived...we found the atmosphere relaxed, welcoming and peaceful. Every member of staff we came across couldn't have been more helpful. The wood burning stove was regularly topped up, keeping the lounge area warm and inviting. We lounged on the comfortable sofa for hours whilst sipping drinks from the bar..Blissful! The food was excellent ... from dinner in the evening to breakfast. In particular, the vegetarian breakfast was fabulous. Parking was excellent..pleanty of room just outside. We had been there to attend a funeral at the nearby crematorium, and Dryburgh was a welcome haven from an otherwise emotional time. The hotel even provided us with printed instructions on how to get to the crematorium. The rooms were clean and cosy. We will definitely be back! Thank you for making our stay memorable and relaxing.

Only that we couldn't have stayed longer

The hotel is in a relatively remote location, which is due to its absolutely unique location right next to an ancient abbey (by the way, the final resting place of the famous writer Sir Walter Scott). The room I was given was very nicely furnished, with a very modern and clean bathroom. Breakfast in a stylish restaurant was served by waiters with a choice of food according to the menu. In addition to the traditional English/Scottish breakfast, there was a choice of, for example, smoked salmon or poached eggs. The coffee served was very good. Overall, the hotel is very clean, in short, a pleasant place for a shorter or longer stay.

Although the parking lot in front of the hotel was quite large, in the evening when I arrived, there were already a minimum of free spaces, which only indicates the popularity of the accommodation.

Evening Meal Very Good / Bistro staff excellent

Breakfast good but staff were lazy. Standing around talking if you asked for anything it appeared that you were interrupting their day. One guest requested some brown bread as there was none available. The waiter came back with a loaf from the ridge. When cleaning the tables everything was just brushed onto the floor. The staff were young people and appeared to have had NO training. A hotel is as good as its staff, management needs to take a grip on things.. Hotel could do with a refurbish. Room 207: Nett curtains at window torn, TV remote held together by tape, bathroom door lock hanging loose.

Good locality for a quiet, peaceful break away from crowds, easy parking, excellent well furnished room. Staff were mainly pleasant and helpful. Food was good except for a couple of problems mentioned below.

Shower was a little bit weak, would have liked it more powerful. Food was generally good except for breakfast that one of us experienced. One morning, poached eggs were ordered and they arrived well overcooked on a pretty tasteless muffin, next morning 2 lightly fried eggs, tomato and bacon were ordered and eggs and bacon arrived looking and tasting as if they had been kept on a hot plate for a long time, and for some reason the tomato arrived in the shape, taste and texture of a sausage. The waitress was informed and she said "sorry" but no replacement was offered. The food was left.

Wonderful traditional hotel, clean and comfortable. Such fantastic grounds with the Abbey being seen from some rooms and the Tweed from others. Good food both in the evening and at breakfast. A great location to explore the Borders. Best of all are the staff - friendly, efficient and welcoming. It’s my go to hotel when I’m in the area!

Absolutely nothing!

Lovely old hotel with brilliant grounds for walking/ exercising dog ..... staff helpful

I was a bit confused by set up . There was a separate room for guests with dogs attending breakfast but when it came to dinner this was not the situation . Sadly my evening meal was spoiled by dogs misbehaving in restaurant and as a dog owner I found it disrespectful to guests who did not have dogs . Also upon walking my dog in grounds in morning I proceeded to walk in some dog muck that someone hadn't bothered to pick up . There was really no excuse for this as the hotel has several containers nearby to place it in . I would just say to owners of dogs , be mindful of other guests as you are lucky to have these facilities available .
