The hotel is in a relatively old building set just outside the Old Town and within a short walk of Thun Castle, but the interior of the bedrooms was far less dated than I was expecting with modern bathrooms. The rooms looked to have been refurbished relatively recently and were great. I reserved a "tiny room" as part of our booking, but that descritption really didn't do the room justice. It was far bigger than I'd expected and had way more floor space than regular rooms I've stayed in at other hotels. I guess the two top floor rooms are sold at a cheaper price as they have sloping roofs giving lower ceilings at the sides and no eye level windows, but my room was well lit with a sky light and floor-level window so I certainly wouldn't put anyone off taking one of those rooms. At breakfast we were given a cheese & meat platter for our table with bread, croissants, boiled eggs, fruit and yoghurts available from a buffet table with that stock topped up from time to time by the staff. The choice was perfectly adequate, although without being as extensive as in some larger hotels.

The hotel is very open that they don't have a lift or air con. Neither caused us a problem and the room, which was equiped with a modern fan during the heatwave I stayed in, didn't get too hot. The receptionist offered to help us take our cases up the stairs (although we were fine doing it ourselves), but the lack of a lift is something to consider for anyone with limited mobility. Although the rooms didn't have their own kettle, free tea and coffee was available near the stairwell (as well as various snacks for purchase). Thun is a very pricey place in general in mid-summer so this wasn't one of our cheaper one-night stays, but we were very happy with the quality of what we got for our money and town really is incredibly scenic.

Beautiful hotel with the character - loved it from the stairs to the view on the castle. We were lucky to have a spacious corner room with 4 windows - full of light and fresh air. Located right next to the old center and convenient parking (reasonably priced and discount is provided from hotel), bus stop is around the corner - connecting to Train station and Spiez. Breakfast is beautifully served in the restaurant, selection is limited but enough. Regret we stayed just 2 nights.

Just remark: We had plugs located under the bed- extension cable would be useful in this case.

The room was very spacey, even for three adults. It had a spectacular view on the castle and downtown. We got two parking tokens in a nearby parking garage (saved us 4 of 20 CHF). The breakfast was nice. The location is great. You are 5 min away from downtown. Check out the Planetarium Sirius above Sigriswil and the Thun Panorama (largest panorama in the world, depicting Thun and its surrounding from the early 19th century).

The breakfast was a bit rushed since we had to leave the room by 9:45 am on a Sunday morning (another event happening in the same room). It did start at 7 am, but this was not our time for a Sunday morning.... we managed ;-)

Lovely and welcoming staff. I needed an extra pillow and it was in my room in 10 minutes. I had a mini room which was absolutely big enough with a full bathroom and double bed. The food in the restaurant was really good too. Very attentive staff, will absolutely stay there again!

The house is quite old and the walls are not very insulated so you can hear what’s going on outside your room. It wasn’t enough to bother me, I just noticed it.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a big comfortable room with a view of the castle and was very well located eg for restaurants and old town. The hotel gave us good information about the sights and especially about nearby paid parking for which it is possible to get a discount via the hotel. There was a restaurant in the hotel and also a free coffee station and an “honesty” bar for some snacks and drinks. We were really happy there and Thun is a very nice town.

The hotel has a great restaurant which also serves as reception. The public parking is close by and secure. It is an easy two minute walk to the town & river... The rooms were minimalistic, but fine. The breakfast was good with a buffet selection and a plate of cold ham & cheese served to the table - well organised...

There was only one pillow and one blanket in my single occupancy double room - such a big bed deserved a couple more pillows and an extra blanket...

This was our second time staying with Hotel Emmental. My kids requested to stay here again. It's a wonderful, character filled vintage hotel/restaurant filled with Swiss charm. Castle view out the window! Scrumptious breakfast and attentive staff. Located in olde town. Highly recommended!!

A cozy small hotel located at a lovely small city Thun near to famous Jungfrau region. Choices of restaurants along the river running through Thun. Train and bus stations are nearby. Supermarkets, shops around the corner.

Not really. Just there is no lift so take note of this if have heavy luggage.

People should be aware that there is no air conditioning. We were fine but it was a surprise to us. Also, the check in is in the restaurant which was fine, but a little different. The building is old and was interesting. The breakfast was good. Pleasant staff.

Loved that I could check out really early!! It made it possible to make it to the airport early to check in! If only I had more time, I would’ve loved to have stayed and explored Thun a bit more!
