When we booked our reservation through booking.com we liked what the pictures showed, but experience has taught us to be wary. Occasionally properties do not deliver on the promise. This, however, was not the case with Schloss Shadau. They delivered on all their promises. The property was magnificent. The extensive grounds and gardens (about 10 acres) were lovingly maintained. They offer a brochure that identifies the many trees and flowers. They offer building as you might imagine is old but well maintained. Yes, the floors will creak under your feet, but that only feeds the images of the many feet that walked the same floors over the generations. Did I mention the food? You must try the food! The cream of asparagus soup with pea sorbet was extraordinary.

The castle and the surrounding parkland is owned by the City of Thun. To cover the cost of maintaining the property ( and it is spotlessly maintained) they host lots and lots of weddings. The wedding guests, as you might imagine, can get carried away with their celebration.

This was a drop-dead gorgeous location and property. We stayed here the night of our mini elopement and it was an absolute dream. They also have a partnership with the hotel next door to have access to their spa facilities. This was a wonderful surprise upon arrival. We're sad to have only spend one night here, but it was everything we hoped for.

Nothing. Truly. The only heads up to share is we were surprised to learn the cost of taxi's in the area. It's very uncommon, so a short 5 minute ride was about 15 euro. We had too many bags to walk, but we'd recommend walking from the train station if you can.

Absolutely stunning hotel in a beautiful location on the lake with views of the Alps. Easy access to the train station on Bus number 1 with the Panorama Card privided by the hotel or 15 min flat walk. The staff are outstanding. On arrival we received a very warm welcome from Anita on reception. We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the terrace each night. The staff were amazing - friendly and efficient and the food was superb. We also enjoyed breakfast each morning served on the terrace with the magnificent view - it was a lovely way to start the day. A tiered platter of cheese and cold meats is brought to the table and coffee made to order. Freshly baked croissants and a variety of delicious breads and jams/chocolate spread and juice is available buffet style. A cooked breakfast is made to order and to your liking - to top it off prosecco is also offered. Our room was absolutely beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. After a long flight from Australia and arriving at the Schloss we knew we had made the right decision to stay here! Thankyou to all of the staff for making our stay so memorable - it was sad to leave!

The location was spot on and the lady on reception took her time to show us about and also helped with our bags

No air con, although had a Dyson fan that helped. The bathroom was a bit dated. The lady on reception who showed us about told me I was too quick when asking for our food and drinks.. but we were tired and wanting to get to bed (and were hungry)…. But didn’t appreciate being told we were impatient clearly after travelling all day to get there. Also no availability of onsite parking which was our fault for not pre booking

Beautiful historical building right on the lake. Close to everything. Very nice staff and very interesting architecture. Lunch and dinner at the hotel were very nice.

Breakfast. Really disappointing compared to the quality of the hotel. Not much selection. They bring a cold cut/cheese plate to the table, and there are some basic items to choose from in a "buffet". In addition, it was very noisy as the staff is arranging cutlery the whole time you are trying to enjoy your breakfast.

Amazing stay here just before Christmas. The hotel is so beautiful, and the views are spectacular. Our room was huge and spotlessly clean. The whole place is magical, I felt like a princess in a story! We had dinner one night at the hotel and it was very nice. Staff were all very helpful. Short walk or bus ride in to beautiful Thun.

The staff was very helpful. They even took Chris to the pharmacy for medicine for Nelly.

The menu was limited and we ate the same breakfast everyday and the dinner menu was also limited. More choices would have been preferred. We had to repeat the same dinner 3 times. A shuttle would be nice rather than busses and taxis. We would recommend a rental car for guests.

This roof was enormous and the property was simply stunning . It was a magical stay that will live in my memory forever!! The room, balcony, and bathroom were all gorgeous. The staff was very accommodating. Breakfast was delicious.

I wish there was coffee in the rooms

We waited two years (because of the corona virus) for our vacation in this magical castle. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sites in Switzerland. A real castle, gives you the feeling you are a real king. All hotel services are excellent, the staff is friendly and hospitable. The continental breakfast is served in the dining room with a view of the lake We had a pampering, luxurious, and very special vacation. Only good things can be said about this magical place. Although the price is not cheap, it is worth the money. This is one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and the best service we received in Switzerland

Living in Australia, we don't have castles. So the opportunity to stay in a castle was too good to pass up. Schloss Schadau did not disappoint. We were met at reception by Helen who could not have been more helpful and was also had a wealth of knowledge about the property. She personally showed us to our beautiful room which had a magnificent view of the lake and the Alps behind. If you stay here you simply MUST have dinner here as well. Again there is no escaping from the fact that you are in a castle ! The dining room(s) are luxurious and the food and the service are excellent, matching the decor. Breakfast is served in the same location. It wasn't cheap, but hey ! It's a castle. If you are able to stay one night or more here. You should do it. Unforgettable.
