Exceptionally clean, modern, comfortable. Excellent service from staff, we felt totally pampered. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Full American breakfast plus more on buffet. Fresh pastries every morning and special orange pound cake. Everything felt slightly more upscale in quality from the bedding to the toiletries. Good, central location. We would definitely stay there again and tell our friends as well.

Although our room didn’t have a window (only a skylight), it didn’t feel claustrophobic. Our other (daughters’) room had a window. Design-wise, both were beautiful and functional.

The room is spacy and comfortable. Loved the bath tub and the Panasonic smart toilet. I saw big smiles and felt warmly welcomed every time I left and came back to AZABU. The location is convenient as it is only 3 min away from Gojo station, and it is quiet at nights as it is in residential area. I had a great time staying at AZABU. :)

The only suggestion to AZABU is to improve the noise cancellation from second floor to the first floor. I stayed in the room on the first floor (ground floor in British English). I can hear people walking and talking on the second floor.

The staffs, especially Aki, are so nice and friendly. They are attentive to their guests. The shower is working so well and the room is spacious enough for 2. The lighting arrangement in the room is well considered and constructured to capture ambience and atmosphere. Love Ikebana in every cornors of this place, reflecting old culture and serenity.

The futon in our room is too soft but it is just personal preference. Even it is close to bus stop and subway, but still too far from centre, approx 1.2 km (comparing to other accommodation choices).

My husband and I booked Auberge Azabu for 2 nights in May 2025 as part of our honeymoon trip. The ryokan was outstanding - from the complimentary tea and cake on arrival, to the fast laundry service, the beautiful traditional room and spotless building and garden, and the breakfast that was tailormade. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive - truly outstanding customer service and the best we experienced on a trip that included 6 cities and where we experienced a high level of service throughout. While we found Kyoto quite busy particularly in the very touristy areas and for some of the popular restaurants, we enjoyed this city immensely. We would recommend going to the Fushimi Inari shrine after dark when it is all lit up, visiting the monkey park (it’s worth the uphill hike!), and checking out the local izakaya restaurant/bars near the ryokan for a fun evening.

Staff were incredibly hospitable. They can help you make restaurant reservations and offer luggage forwarding service to your next destination which we used. The location was quiet, a convenient 4-5 minute walk from Gojo Station, which is 1 stop away from Kyoto Station. We got the room downstairs with direct access to our own private garden at the back of the property, though we couldn't use it since it rained throughout our stay. Room was very clean and had a modern minimalist vibe with Japanese aesthetics of course. Unlike most other ryokans, they serve a Western style breakfast. While I was originally looking forward to a kaiseki style breakfast, it turned out to be ideal since we were eating solely Japanese food for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Having a western style meal was a nice respite. Make sure you order your eggs scrambled! It's wonderful on a piece of toast. Overall, a lovely experience and would definitely reccommend.

If I had to "complain" about one thing, it would only be the height of the sink in our room. As it's designed to match the height of the attached makeup vanity counter, it's not an ideal height for standing. I am not tall at all and I had to resort to sitting in the vanity chair to brush my teeth and wash my face to avoid back pain from bending so far over and to prevent water from splashing out too much. A minor inconvenience in my opinion.

The auberge is in an optimal location, the staff was very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay and the breakfast was quite good, if a bit simple compared to other locations. Our room was very pretty and extremely clean - sadly we couldn't take advantage of the private garden because it was raining every day, but in a sunnier period it would have been very relaxing.

The noise level in the room was quite unbearable. We had to unplug the mini fridge every night because it sounded more like a washing machine; and people walking in the room above sounded like thunder.

The whole experience was exceptional! From the moment we enter to the moment we left we simply loved it. Their hospitality is incredible and you really just feel welcomed. Breakfast was amazing and it was so nice to exchange some words in both French and Italian with the chef, you can clearly see that they spent some years in France and it was so beautiful to see it reflected on their dishes. I have asked for a cake for my fiancée's birthday and they kindly propose to make it (for a very reasonable fee), it was delicious and home-made! We loved the room, so cosy, traditional and modern at the same time. I never gave 10 before but this place truly deserve it! We didn't want to leave it! Merci beacoup pour tout! :)

The staff here are amazing, service orientated, always wanting to assist and finding ways to do so. The greeting tea and sweet is lovely and getting you straight into slippers and relaxing you - it was amazing. The Japanese PJs for the room were lovely, and we hadn't used those types of towels before - so new experiences. Our room opened onto two little gardens - unbelievable and lovely to look out on. The breakfast is great it is western with a French/Japanese twist and made to your order. Wonderful stay.

Nothing, everything was great. Sometimes the room was a little warm but we got used to adjusting that quick smart.

It shows that they really care about their guests! Daily super cleaning of the room, in the room they give everything you could possibly need to feel cosy. Because we had quite cold weather, they started the heater in the room before we arrived every night, so we find a cosy atmosphere. We did not ask for it, but, they read our mind:) The breakfast is nutritious and the food is of very good quality! The metro and bus station are 3 minutes away, you have shops/bars super close. As we say in Romania, they put their heart in everything they do. They also speak English:)

This is such a gorgeous little place down a side street in Kyoto. Whilst it's very accessible via train (one stop from Kyoto main station) it's in a quiet street and you feel you're in an oasis. The rooms are beautifully maintained and by far the hosts are amazing. So may little touches like how they make your room each day whilst you're out, to the amazing breakfast they make for you. It really has the vibe of being an old school Bed and Breakfast with a Japanese twist. I couldn't recommend this place more.

Not a problem for us, but there's no TV's in the room - so be aware.
