Cosy, self contained with kitchenette which was very handy. Liked the 1940s style. Very clean. Beautifully kept grounds with lovely gardens. Despite being close to the main road, there were no concerns about road noise. It was great sitting outside the cottage in the sun having breakfast. Good size under counter fridge.
The kitchenette is quite tired. Like the 1940s style so I wouldn't want to lose that but the sink is rusty. A toaster would have been good. There was only exactly enough crockery and cutlery for two ie 2 knives, 2 forks, 2 main plates etc. There is a plug in portable hotplate (2 plates) which worked fine but difficult to cook a full meal. The pans have a single clip on handle which came off and nearly burnt my hand (probably user error but normal saucepans with handles would be easier).

We booked a studio cottage and were placed in one of their vintage cottages with kitchenette. I loved the vintage style and garden scenery. River was across our cabin and we were surrounded by little fountains that created a super calming water asmr sleeping environment. Kitchenette was clean and fully stocked for two people. Water pressure was good and got pretty hot when we needed it. Bed was comfortable and clean. Location was great! It’s a 10 minute drive to most major Carmel tourist attractions like hiking or exploring downtown. Plaza across the highways was beautiful and offered a variety of local shops to explore. Our favorite was breakfast at Scratch!
Some of the windows were tricky to open due to the hinges being painted over. No air conditioning in the rooms just a heater which took us a while how to turn off. We opened all the windows we could to cool off the room in the day time. Bathroom door was also an interesting choice. Imagine an old west saloon with the old barn door that swings open when you walk in. It was just that with a simple latch to keep shut. There was a gap on the top and bottom of these barn doors. My partner could totally hear me going number 2 but thank god we’re past that point in our relationship.

I recently spent a night at this charming stand-alone cottage at Carmel River Inn, and the stay was a delightful experience. From the moment we arrived, the private entrance provided a sense of exclusivity and relaxation. The cottage was well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The interior featured home-style furnishings, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The cozy living space was perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Additionally, the fast Wi-Fi made it easy to stay connected and catch up on emails. We were also thrilled to find that the cottage is pet-friendly! We were allowed to bring our dog, and the hosts went above and beyond by providing him with treats, a plate, and a sheet. It made the stay even more enjoyable, knowing our furry friend was well cared for. The private patio was another highlight, offering a peaceful space to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature. The large garden area around the cottage was beautiful, and we loved exploring it. The sound of the river nearby added to the tranquility of the place, and we even spotted various birds, including a majestic owl. It was a wonderful escape into nature. Carmel River Inn has a long history, adding a unique charm and character to the experience. It’s wonderful to stay at a place with such a rich past while still offering modern comforts. The location was also ideal — Downtown Carmel is just a 5-minute drive away, offering easy access to dining, shops, and galleries. Plus, parking by the cottage was a breeze, making it hassle-free to come and go. Overall, this cottage offered comfort and privacy, making it an ideal choice for a peaceful retreat — especially for those traveling with pets. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cozy, pet-friendly getaway with the bonus of being so close to downtown Carmel, having easy parking, and enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings.

Cottage was very well-equipped, clean and comfortable. Gardens and walking paths are lovely. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Very pet friendly!
My bedroom had only a sheer curtain covering one window, so I had to hang a sheet up for privacy. And though I was told it had an enclosed patio for my dogs, it did not, and the exterior seemed to be in the process of updating or repair (it was just a bunch of dirt). I would like to have had the option to stay in a new cottage instead of a refurbished one, but that didn't seem like an option on this site.

Love the patio and sitting in the sun listening to the birds and river. Great location near all my favorite places. I asked the manager about the brand of bed—so comfy.
I didn’t realize when I booked my stay that I could have gotten a better discount if I mentioned I was attending a painting workshop through Carmel Visual Arts. Though I could be wrong—it might have been about the same as booking through Booking.com.

We are local and wanted something different for a 50th birthday girl’s weekend near Carmel by the Sea. Quick ride share to downtown (2-3 miles) or walk down and across the street ( Highway 1) for available shopping and dining (About half a mile) The cabin we stayed in was a newer one and really nice. And clean! You can’t exactly SEE the Carmel River, but it is just over the berm. The whole cottages area is so cute. Can’t wait to see how all the new landscaping grows in in the coming years. The young man that checked me in was very friendly and pleasant.
If anything, maybe some weed eating could’ve been done around the back side of the cabin, but we were just coming off a big storm so that is totally forgivable.

We had a small vintage cottage with a kitchenette to ourselves. Comfortable King sized bed with luxury linens. Heater in the unit was efficient for this cold weekend. The kitchenette had a coffeemaker, fridge, microwave and 2burner electric cooktop. If it had been warmer & less rainy we also could have used the lounge chairs outside.
No place to sit except for bed & kitchen chairs. Minimal closet space. We didn’t spend too much time inside and we don’t bring fancy clothes so this wasn’t a big concern to us. It is a very small cottage and the space is used efficiently.

Conveniently located off of Hwy 1, a few miles north of Point Lobos State Park and within short drives to downtown Carmel, Pacific Grove, Monterey, 17-mile drive (Pebble Beach). Bonus: The Crossroads Plaza is a mere .2 miles away. Our room in the upstairs of the main building: Clean & comfortable w/ a balcony overlooking Carmel River; comfy king-sized bed. Quiet refrigerator, good television. Perfect for a 2-night Monterey Peninsula getaway. ‘Would stay again when in the area.

Carmel River Inn has charm. We stayed in the hotel type rooms which are decorated in classic Carmel style The bed and linens were very nice. The view over the Carmel River was so pretty. Nice refrigerator but no microwave. The light fixtures were nice but the bulbs were too low wattage for us. There are super cute bungalows on the propert too and the landscaping is lovely.
The Wi-Fi was problematic… had inconsistent accessibility and the office staff was not interested in finding a solution. In general the office staff were not terribly friendly.

We stayed in a "cottage" or "cabin" which gave us privacy, which we wanted, as well as a designated parking space. The manager, Michael, is fantastic! He is friendly, knowledgable about the area, and very helpful. The coffee served in the lobby is so good that I asked Michael where I could buy some and he, of course, directed me to the source.
We arrived on an unusually warm day for the area and discovered that there is no air conditioning in any of the rooms. Normally, in the area, that's not a big deal, but when we first entered our room, it was in the 80s Fahrenheit! They did bring us a fan which helped a bit.
