The bedroom was large and the bed was super comfy. The shower was strong. There was also a decent hairdryer in the room plus an iron and ironing board. It was quite warm but an electric fan is provided in the room. No view from the window but expected this in a town centre. The Swan is on the high street but the room was so quiet and good curtains that blacked out. Every member of staff was very helpful. We had the continental breakfast which was totally adequate and well refreshed. We didn’t have an evening meal due to circumstances but food looked delicious. Plenty of parking at the rear for guests. Would definitely stay again!

From the moment we arrived we felt looked after. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The room in this historic hotel was stunning. It was spacious and with comfortable furniture suiting the age and decor. The breakfast was splendid and set us up well for the day. The waitress was pleasant and attentive to our needs. Being central in the town we could explore the shops, and just as we checked out we were told that our room had been the one Jane Austen stayed in near the end of her life. Given the age of the hotel this would have been perfectly possible and ended our stay on a high. This is the second Greene King hotel we have stayed in and the standard and service has been equally high in. both.

Being a hot night it would have been good to open another window, but it was seized. But given the age of the hotel to maintain the fabric can't be easy - and it is only a very minor quibble.

Comfortable double bed. Very good shower fittings with reasonable water pressure. Good standard of cleanliness. Restaurant food available at reasonable prices. Rather expensive drinks Bar. (Wetherspoon's just down the road) Friendly staff with good customer service. Outside seating at picnic tables. Car park included in room price (Enter car registration correctly !! ) Typical GREENE KING facilities - all O.K. Toilets clean, hand driers working. Worth a visit.

Hotel paintwork could do with a refurb. Outside seating was not in sunshine, afternoons. WIFI WAS INDIFFERENT AND DROPPED OUT FREQUENTLY - SKY!!. In Room 39 you can hear the water heating boiler at night. Door closers tend to SLAM. Only one key available per room - manual locks - secure but "Old Tech".

For New Years Eve 2024, we were advised that the bar would be open for residents until 12.30 am on New Years Day, however, unprofessionally, the bar closed before midnight, citing lack of guests in the bar area! Even certain staff agreed this was wrong, but unfortunately, quote, 'the Manageress has the final say'!! No proper sign at entrance to car park, thus entrance can be easily missed Breakfast could be laid out better

well positioned in centre of town. Room very clean and comfortable well provided with toiletries and hostess tray and easy to gain more as needed.. There is a free car park but not applicable to me . Easy access to good buses

poor service on day 3 at breakfast simple meal took too long to come after ordering and asked again for it and when received badly cooked so not eaten perhaps a different chef. Menu quite expensive for lunch and dinner but did not use the restaurant for these meals . A simple room service would be appreciated eg toasted sandwiches or similar and a small fridge would be very useful

Excellent location - very friendly staff (obviously short staffed ) but the staff worked so hard to help. Two staff deserve a special mention , the lady who coped with a very busy Sunday breakfast, solo and the young lady who rescued me from bringing baked alive because the radiator could not be regulated. Opening the window ( too difficult for me) and a fan solved the problem. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and on felt welcome. Will come again - hopefully this year while Jane Austin's 250 celebration is still occurring.

Beautiful restored 18th C inn with a great pub & restaurant, right on Alton high street, in the heart of Jane Austen country. Very helpful front desk staff stored luggage before checkin time. Room was spacious and lightly updated. Nice in-room tea service with electric kettle and quality biscuits. Good location on high street with access to local pubs, stores, and cafes. Excellent access to local buses at stops at inn's front doorstep.

Nothing. But Be aware that this is a historic inn with stairs to upper floors, no elevator. Staff available to help with luggage.

The Swan Hotel is in a great location in the middle of the High Street. It is a short walk from the train station and many shops and restaurants. The room was basic, but what I expected. It was convenient having a pub downstairs if you didn't want to venture out for a meal. I enjoyed my dinner there.

The walls are fairly thin. It was easy to hear the comings and goings of other guests along the hallway, and a couple having a particular bit of fun one morning in the room next door.

Staff are lovely, big spacious restaurant and bar area. Good food. Fan in room was already on, much appreciated in a heatwave

Noise from the street overnight, but to be expected as the property is on the main street. Also (probably not the actual property 's doing) but I paid well over the usual price as we were attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed ( naughty, Booking.com). However the staff member did offer us discount on a return stay, which was very good.

We were able to leave our bags on arrival as we were early. This allowed us to explore the town. The room was larger than expected and I particularly liked the bathroom. Excellent choice for hot food on the breakfast menu! Friendly staff throughout hotel.

There was little natural light in the room and I think the main lights could have been brighter/warmer. (The bedside lights did help and were great for night time reading.) The beds could have benefited from colourful throws and cushions to give that all important first impression.
