February 2024

Room was lovely, bed comfortable and the view over the river was great. Housekeeping was great. Breakfast was excellent and we loved the outside views, selection available and how beautifully the lady on the egg counter made the eggs benedict and omelettes - i.e. not overcooked. The bar toasted sandwich was great value, All the staff were great and so helpful and welcoming. Welcome tour of hotel and room were excellent. They also gave good recommendations when asked. When I hurt myself in Porto they were so caring when I got back to the hotel, cleaning and dressing my arm and bringing ice packs for my head. Everyone was so kind - of particular mention were Tiago, Inês and Paulo. We would definitely come again.

Apart from the wonderful breakfast buffer, the ceasar sald and toasted sandwich in the bar we were unattracted by the restaurant menu which seemed limited, not much of our taste and a bit overpriced. The typesize in the room guide was so small it was difficult to read but you only had to ask staff at reception and they were very helpful. The TV controls didn't work very well and the TV instructions on the initial screen appeared in German, the system was slow to change, the account information screen showed transactions from previous guest.

February) but the morning sun shining through the windows made it feel warm. Staff were lovely – nothing too much trouble – with the exception of the main man in the restaurant, who had an abrupt, brusque and offhand manner. The Avantgarde is just ten-minutes (ish) walk up the road to Livraria Lello and the Torre dos Clerigos (don’t miss the Spiritus illuminations!) and around 20 minutes to the airport (our Uber cost just €11!). There’s a lovely park nearby that’s worth visiting, with peacocks and more great views. Fab views of the both Porto and the Gaia side of the river from the hotel. The steam room, sauna and pools felt like a real selling point when we booked, but we found so much to do in Porto during our six days day that we didn’t use them.

Very little! Though more hooks in the bedroom (even inside the wardrobe) would’ve been helpful.

Staff was amazing! Very kind and helpfull. The best one we ever had. Interior design is modern and delightful, breakfast was good. Stunning views from the room and restaurant

Very bad soundproofing, we could hear every word and every step from the room next to ours, so we couldn't sleep at night. Toilets are not isolated from the bedroom...please leave open concept to prisons...this is a hotel and we want comfort. Hot water pressure was always very low. Rooms are very small. Indoor pools are almost as small as jacuzzi...we could't even use it.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! The location is ideal, with a stunning view that you get to enjoy every morning from the perfectly positioned infinity pool and restaurant terrace. The pool itself was the perfect temperature—very refreshing and relaxing. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, offering us great tips that led us to some of the best restaurants in town. The welcome process was smooth and warm, making us feel relaxed from the start. Our room was upscale, comfortable, and high quality—everything felt thoughtfully designed and well maintained. The food and drinks were also top-notch, with great attention to both flavor and presentation. Overall, a beautiful and memorable experience. Highly recommend!

We stayed in the Royal Jacuzzi Suite, dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci. With its spacious and comfortable balcony, this room offers a view of the city and river that is absolutely breathtaking. There is a marquee canopy that shelters the balcony from intense, direct sun. The three-person outdoor jacuzzi is very clean, comfortable, and not over chlorinated. We really enjoyed lounging on this balcony! The room is elegant, modern, and tastefully decorated. It accommodated us well as three adult family members (2 parents with older child). In my opinion, this room is absolutely tops if you're planning a romantic get-away or special holiday. The hotel staff are super kind and helpful. The spa is worth a visit, too. We enjoyed a couples massage there. Danielly in Guest Relations was on the ball via WhatsApp to help us book dinner reservations at choice seafood restaurants around town, including 5 Oceanos, which we definitely recommend for an unforgettable dining experience. Overall, a lovely, memorable holiday weekend in beautiful Porto!!

Breakfast was excellent and so were the rooms. The hotel is around a 8-10 mins walk to the centre. It's a pleasant walk and is in a quiet neighbourhood. Staff was extremely courteous and made us feel at home. The cocktails at the bar were great! The pool is a nice option to dip into after a day in the town.

We were disappointed that the steam room was not functioning. The terrace area is gorgeous but we could not sit there to eat breakfast as the sun would beat down on us. Would be good to have some curtains at the terrace restaurant for the few hours in the morning.

Beautiful hotel a short walk away from Porto centre / close to attractions. Friendly staff. Great pool and spa. I would recommend to others. Spa treatment was incredible. Very clean and attractive hotel.

The staff are incredibly friendly but the service lets itself down. Quite a few instances of poor service and annoyances that should have been better for a 5 star hotel. Also slightly annoying that I upgraded for a river view and the view was mostly blocked by a tree. I also think the staff should be more proactive with poolside drinks orders, it was difficult to find staff and order. On check-in, we were told we would be messaged if the room was ready early and if we received no message then it would be ready for 2pm. We decided to check at 1pm on the off chance that the room was ready and it was - really annoying as we had sat around waiting for the room and it was already ready (for how long who knows...)

We loved being so close to the old tram stop, which takes you all the way to the beach, it’s also possible to walk into town from the hotel. I particularly appreciated the great food at the restaurant on our first night, the fabulous service, and also the small indoor pool, which is very private and which was really the perfect therapy for my ankle injury. I came in spite of having previously injured myself, and I still had a really great time. Thank you for the opportunity to rest and recover at your lovely place.

Perhaps one improvement could be connecting all of the Spa areas, but I’m not sure that this is possible.

Exceptional hotel & spa. The room is very comfortable. We had two balconies; one of bedroom and one off sitting room. The room had a kettle and Nespresso fridge and iron and hair dryer. The facial at the spa was the best experience I’ve ever had. Breakfast was excellent with a cook to prepare your eggs exactly as you wish.

The restaurant for dinner requires 1-2 days advance reservations so it’s important to reserve ahead of your stay if you wish to eat there. Although the food was prepared very well, we felt the portions were scarce for the meal.

Our stay at Torel Avantgarde was exceptional. The location and views were stunning, and the staff provided impeccable service throughout our visit. The breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of high-quality options. Our room was uniquely designed, with incredible attention to detail that made the experience feel truly special. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as the welcome drink on arrival and the chocolates before bed, which made our stay even more memorable. The only improvement we’d suggest is providing more complimentary water in the rooms, as one refillable bottle for two guests wasn’t quite sufficient. Overall, Torel Avantgarde exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend it for a luxurious and unique stay in Porto with good value for money.
