Most the staff were amazing and welcoming. Over my long stay I got to know some of the staff; the housekeepers Carissa and Rita were amazing and made sure my room was topped up with the complimentary’s and kept tidy for me. Receptionist’s Ahmed and Martin were very helpful and polite. The building is amazing and historical, full of quirks which I enjoyed.

Who I believe to be the maintenance man was quite rude but don’t think it was intentional he’s probably just a grumpy guy. I overheard Two bald guys who I believe to be management type fellows being very rude and aggressive towards their amazing staff members who I got to know and made my stay very welcoming and enjoyable.

Clean, comfortable, with some old fashioned charm. I would stay there again if in the area.

Floors were uneven; and there were staircases of just 2 or 3 steps, here and there, even on a single floor. Personally I thought this added to the charm of this very old building, but people who are unsteady on their feet may want to avoid it. The parking is accessed (by driving into an archway) from the road which is right alongside the River Nene; this is a different road from "Market Place" which is the postal address of this hotel. So finding the parking took longer than I expected. After my car was actually parked I was quite happy to leave it there.

Staying at this hotel felt like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of history. The 400-year-old building exudes charm, with its delightfully crooked stairs, uniquely shaped walls, and rooms full of character. Every corner whispers stories of the past, inviting you to slow down and savour the atmosphere. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a place to dream. Cosy, full of soul, and far from the blandness of modern standard hotels, it offers a rare and authentic experience. The spacious parking area and excellent value for money are simply the cherries on top.

We needed a bed only for one night with very early departure and this place fitted the bill. Reception was quick and efficient. Whilst retaining the original features of the 400 year old listed building, the hotel has been tastefully refurbished. The public areas and bedrooms were very clean with tea/coffee, towels, shower gel and hairdryer all provided. One nice addition was in my room a usb charging point was also provided on a socket outlet so you only needed a cable to charge the phone/IPad. Overall much better than I expected for the price and I would use again

Such a historic establishment in a great location. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our suite was a treat, spacious with lovely bathroom and warm on a chilly night and very quiet. Parking on site was a bonus. Great exploring the nearby Georgian crescents and spectacular riverside promenade including National Trust grand residence and gardens. Good value.

We had no quibbles at all really. There is an absence of the most modern facilities and dining offer but we found a delightful pub with good food and friendly staff beside the river nearby, with tables available without a booking.

I liked the manager Mario he was super friendly and genuinely a nice bloke and very knowledgeable about the history of the hotel we enjoyed talking to him a lot.

It’s rich history but it’s a shame it’s not up to its former glory and falling into a bit of a state but with some investment, it could be restored to its full glory and I hope it is , the bar needs to be reopened as well as the restaurant as any hotel of this calibre should have these services open to use. Again what a shame!

It is only 2 star, but the room was clean and tidy, ok it could do with a lick of paint, but it was really good value for money. If you want 5=star..go pay 5 star prices! We were more than happy with our stay! Hotel was nice, staff were very friendly and helpful. It was quiet through the night and, yes, I would stay there again.☺️

If there had been a bar and restaurant, it would have been way more expensive! There were plenty of bars, cafes and takeaways just outside the hotel, in fact, you could see all of them from the front door of the hotel!

Such a cute, “antique” of a hotel. Could be the most stunning of places to stay. And even though it’s still nice, so much could be done to make it a highly sort after place to stay. I did LOVE my room. The Suite. Just full of charm and character. The roll top bath and the antique dressing table just added to the charm.

Lack of facilities. Even a small coffee machine or a little coffee shop would add so much extra to something which is definitely not used to its full potential.

I was wary of booking because of some poor reviews. The hotel is a very grand 400-year-old building with a lovely lobby area and many original features including grand staircase. Mario at the reception was friendly & let me check the room before I paid. I was very happy with the huge quiet, comfortable room. Clean, huge bathroom too. wifi good to work from laptop It needs some attention in places & there is scaffolding in the central area. But I feel had a great stay, & it was huge value for money. I stayed an extra night & booked with Callum who is the early shift guy and was equally helpful. No food etc at the hotel, but a few takeaway places nearby.

I can't complain for the price. my stay was good. would have actually liked to see the rest of the hotel as it looks like a beautiful building.

The staff were brilliant. Really helpful and friendly. Such an interesting historic building. Right on High Street so easy access to town. Parking available.

We had an issue finding the carpark as there were no clear instructions (it is accessed from the main road behind the back of the hotel, through red arches) but staff helpful when we got through to them to ask. Shame they no longer have a restaurant /bar, it would bring more people.
