The lovely manager of the property made everything relaxed and easy, including our unplanned late arrival around 2am. The property is a NZ motel, which means it is a type of unit with its own kitchen, and an informal personality that is quite unlike chain hotels. The location right on the beach with views across the water and up the coast feels like a place far away from city life. The beach is rocky, and not really suitable for swimming (unless perhaps with rubber aqua footwear) but good for strolling with a mug of coffee, fossicking for driftwood and shells. The unit was warm with the heating on and the excellent beds have electric blankets as well.

There wasn't anything we didn't like, but we are experienced travellers in NZ and know and like NZ motels, as well as the Thames Coast area, which is very beautiful.

Setting was nice..lots of seabirds visible from the window, we went to the beach to see them. The room was clean and comfortable. Parking was directly outside. We were a good distance from the road. Dining table was well used, which is nice in one way as we weren't scared to use it, but might need a refresh soon. Excellent fish and chip place a short drive away.

We didn't see a person to check in or check out. Even finding out about laundry was done over an intercom.. It would have been nice to see a person, even if only once! Be aware you will need to drive to town for restaurants, or to the fish and chips

Very comfortable beds, basic unit with heat pump, clean and tidy, basic kitchenette but adequate for a few days, good shower but could do with a new door seal. Nice bbq and communal seating area outside courtyard. Great spot next to beach, but sadly not a lovely beach (for swimming) - but perfect for a glass of wine to watch the sunset. Nice friendly staff. Not expensive and 7 mins drive from town.

Nice overall, a bit tired and needs a bit of tlc, and some attention e.g. making sure the curtains all have hooks and shower leak is fixed. Maybe some creative touches. Some noise from the main road, but very minimal. No shops nearby, nearest dairy about 2kms away but that's not the motels fault!

Bed was so comfortable and unit very clean. Staff were lovely. This was our second stay.

only down side was the couch was to wide in the seat and the fabric I think was an artificial leather so as I am 5'4 every time you moved to try get comfy you would just slip, my husband who is taller had the same problem so only way to get comfy was to put your legs up on the couch, having said that the couch looked nice, maybe a rug on the floor in kitchen, lounge area would've given a nicer, warm feel.

Thank you for the stay. It was so clean that it made the stay comfortable, and the bed was so warm and toasty, I wanted to say thank you in person, but partner, he wasn't well. Do apologize.

The door handle needed fixing and window Latch but because place was super clean and warm and bed so comfortable and shower pressure perfect and basic hot drink and shampoo soap . It make you not worry about the door if I had my tool box with me I would of fix it. That how happy was to help thank you

The unit was bigger than we expected, with separate rooms for the bed and kitchenette/lounge area. We loved that our dog was welcome, and having the reserve area directly next door made it really easy to take her for walks whenever we needed to. Great value for the price.

The hot plate in the kitchenette didn't seem to work well - it barely warmed up a frypan. But the electric wok also included did a good job for cooking.

We stayed for one night at Sunset Motel, we wished we could have stayed longer!!! The most beautiful views to wake up to - the motel was extremely well kept and the unit was very clean and went further than our expectations. We would highly recommend staying here, whether you have a family or are a couple, it is a wonderful place to stay! We definitely will be back 😍 (we even accidentally left items in our room which we forgot, and the reception then called us and put it aside for us to collect - extremely good service!) There was some slight road noise - but very minimal

The motel is in a lovely location by the water which is great for watching the sun set. Our unit was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a separate bedroom, and we thought it was good value. There was a little table and chairs outside which is nice to sit at in the late afternoon. Across from the motel is a parking area with picnic benches, where we ate our dinner and watched the sunset. The motel is in a good location for setting off north along the west coast of the peninsula. A car is needed as it is a bit too far from the town to walk. Parking was easy directly outside the unit.

Exceptionally clean and well kept We were lucky enough to be upgraded to three bedroom which was spacious and well appointed with fabulous views Easy check in Grounds and gardens well cared for and lovely

Next to freedom camping site which made us a little wary but was absolutely fine and very peaceful while we were there Right at the end of town but with a car made very little difference, and the setting more than made up for it.

Very very clean, bright and cheerful. Good quality linen, excellent bed. Lovely staff. Would recommend to anyone. Bathroom recently renovated and lovely if a little cosey.

Only two hooks in the entire unit. No hooks in bathroom and only one small window sill for a shelf. No net curtains for privacy. Either have your curtains pulled shut and sit in the dark or open for everyone to look in. The result of the above was when we showered we had to close every curtain in the unit bar the back one and one in the bedroom to get from the bathroom where there is nowhere to put clothes in order to get the bedroom where we had two hooks and no wardrobe. Otherwise very comfortable stay.
