This is probably the 12th time i have stayed here if not more. Would not go anywhere else. Yes its an old hotel, undergoing renovations but it has character. Staff are amazing, rooms are comfortable and clean.
There is nothing I don't like about this hotel. It is old and quirky.

Lovely hotel in a fantastic location. The room was very clean and for what we paid well worth it. Will definitely visit again.
Nothing really, if I was being pernickity we had to pay for parking at the hotel. £10 for 24hrs if you use the machine outside but £5 if you're staying there. 0

The staff were so lovely and helpful to me as I had travelled alone with my dog. They even looked after him for me while I went for my breakfast and never made me feel a nuisance for doing it. Room was very clean and spacious. Breakfast was so lovely.
The fact that some inconsiderate guests were singing and chatting loudly in the corridor for 3 hours til about 3am causing my dog to keep barking and stopping me getting to sleep. Even mimicking my dog yapping when they kept.going past my room. The windows could have been cleaner as I had a sea view room but they were very dirty.

The restaurant was closed for renovations, so we had to use the sister hotel 100 yards away, i was not told this before the booking as i would have booked the other hotel.
The room was pretty cold, with a radiator which was too small for the room, and did not seem to warm up. There was a small mobile heater as well, but the room was pretty large as my partner needed a scooter to get about. But the hotel was very nice and the staff helpful in providing the room with it's easy access. It's a beautiful hotel, but a bit old fashioned with the facilities.

The rooms were quiet with very little noise pollution from any other guests. They also have plenty of storage for if you come packing heavier than usual or are staying a while. The place is clean and staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. I never got chance to experience food there but I can bet it would be great food.
The only thing I didn’t like was two small things. The hot water in my room took a while before it got hot but that is more than likely due to the large volume of rooms so I have no complaints. The other thing is that when I entered the room I inspected the mains sockets and half of them were turned on and live with nothing plugged in. Im not sure that this would be a major issue for most people to be honest so that’s why I say it’s a small issue.

I booked this on the morning of the night. I stayed there so very last minute. I booked it as it was a works Christmas night out, and it would save me driving. I wasn't expecting much, but I wasn't bothered as it was just a bed for the night. But for what I paid, I was pleasantly surprised . I booked a single room , it was clean , spacious, and had nice views out of the window to the front of the hotel and gardens in Southport. It had a decent TV, kettle with tea coffee milk and biscuits . A good-sized bathroom with a bath and shower and toiletries . Lots of wardrobe space and drawers and a little changing area with mirror. I also had a buffet breakfast in the morning, with continental and full English plus juices and hot drinks. You could have as much as you wanted. Plus, it was 12 midday checkout ! I paid £47 for the night, and that is very good value for what I got.
There wasn't many negatives tbh just a couple of niggly things The water wasn't hot in the room , it was warm but I like really hot water and it seemed as if it was set at a certain temperature and couldn't go any hotter. It was a little old fashioned, but this added to the charm in a way.

The location was a short walk from all the amenities and transport of Lord Street. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. The staff I met all put themselves out to help me. Jack at check in resolved my problem with a glitchy pin number on my credit card. The receptionist at around 10 pm found extra bedding when requested. Nickie gave me precise directions for my onward bus to Liverpool. I recommend the Hideaway cafe for great coffee and breakfast, especially eggs benedict!
I'd have liked a softer pillow. The bed had only a thin duvet, with no blanket or throw. The radiator was never hotter than, say, a television. Luckily the room air stayed warm enough. The bathroom sink doesn't drain properly.

The lady on reception (didn't catch her name) was lovely, very welcoming, informative and was happy to help. The room was massive, with a lovely view, and whilst I appreciate it is because of the time of the year, it was still a lovely room for the price I paid. I had my dog with me, and the fact there are the ornate gardens opposite the hotel, made it a pleasure walking her, something you don't always get with some hotels.
I was advised from eating at the hotel by someone who was staying there, I'm not sure why, but I guess there must have been a reason. And I left before breakfast was served, so really can't comment other than this. My only other gripe, which was why I didn't score higher, was the water pressure and temperature were hit and miss. For example, I was looking forward to a nice hot bath as I had been driving all day, but when I got in, it was luke warm and the bath was almost full. Then in the am, I took a shower, and the temp was okay, but the shower was a little less than a dribble.

Ah, yes, the comfortable bed was definitely a highlight! And the en-suite being generally okay, just a little fiddly with getting the shower temperature right through the mixer.
When I came from my room for breakfast, I had to eat it from a bowl! Ah, the missing plates! That definitely sounds like a frustrating start to the day. Having to improvise with a bowl for breakfast isn't ideal. Usually there is a jug of milk or orange juice as well! I shouldn’t have to go looking for a plate to eat my breakfast from.
