I can’t be complimentary enough about the hotel and the staff. a very short distance from the airport, less than ten minutes. the hotel and grounds are grand from the moment you enter the gates. the grounds and views are breathtaking. the staff are so helpful and nothing was too much. the breakfast is amazing, and the rooms of the house open to tour were like stepping back in time. we were 2 adults and 2 children. a five minute taxi ride into town (circa 15 euros)

the only thing to be aware of is there are no food facilities on site so the only meal you can have is breakfast …. which is incredible

There is no reason to stay here unless you’re a Sound of Music pilgrim (I was), or you’re a seminar participant. We did not drive so getting here was tricky. Took a taxi from Salzburg train station after a long day of traveling. While the taxi fare wasn’t too expensive, around 15€, hailing one took some time and got us worried since it was after dark. Walking to the old city means you’ve to go up and over a shortcut in the hill, which is fine if you’re young and fit, but otherwise inconvenient and time-consuming if planning multiple trips. That said the breakfast is incredible, the staff wonderful, and the lake view makes it worthwhile. We were in the annex and the rooms are clean and functional.

The grounds and palace are stunning! The views of the lake and mountains are so scenic, it felt like a painting, and with the public blocked off from it, it felt very peaceful which I loved. It’s where they filmed some of the sound of music, if you love that movie you should stay here! All of the staff were also very friendly including the breakfast staff. The room itself was spacious and felt very clean. The location is decent, it’s only around 13 euros to get to the city by Uber taxi. Otherwise it’s not too far of a walk to the city. The breakfast is great! I’m celiac and they had several gluten free options and I didn’t get any reaction. They also have plenty of vegan options and all allergens are listed on each item which made it easier. They also had good coffee! Which as an Australian where we have arguably the best coffee in the world, good coffee has been hard to come by throughout our Euro travels!

I guess just a couple small things to make it extra comfortable, a mini fridge in the room would’ve been a nice touch, and maybe a second pillow as the one felt a bit flat. But otherwise, still 10/10! I definitely plan to stay here again :)

For those of you who are familiar with The Sound of Music, this is the original location where the boating accident of Julie Andrews and the children took place. In the film the boat overturns and they all end up in the water of the lake. The castle and the grounds are marvellous! It is difficult to put in words the magnificence of the location, the lake, the castle, the flowers and the fauna! Our bedroom was not in the main castle but in the adjacent property and it was big and very comfortable. We had a view over the Salzburg Fortress, beautiful! The bathroom was big, spacious and with a big window that we could open for fresh air. The castle had no restaurant so for dinner we went to nearby restaurants suggested by the staff or you could go into town. Breakfast was the only meal served at the castle and it was sumptuous and scrumptious! We were seated in the Venetian Room, a beautiful, awesome room painted and decorated in Venetian style. Again, impossible to describe the marvel of this place! There are a lot of walks you can do around the area, in the park itself, outside the castle and around the whole perimeter of the lake or go into town. From the castle the walk takes more or less 30 minutes to reach old town Salzburg, and the walk on pedestrian and cycle path was wonderful. We walked among trees and flowers and then little paths with canals and houses, picturesque. And always overlooked by the fortress. Cyclists are very polite in Salzburg, they announce their arrival and they always, always thank you for getting out of their way, if you, like me, sometimes forget you are on a cycle path.

There was nothing I did not like! I wished I could have stayed longer! If I had to find a fault, maybe the temperature. Mornings and evenings were quite chilly for June, but the days were bright and a part an occasional shower, sunny! So my advice is to always have a jacket or a jumper at hand! But Salzburg is surrounded by mountains so you are bound to have fresh air!

Amazing place to stay with beautiful view of the Alps and the lake, amazing salons and rooms and delicious breakfast options. And for fans of The Sound of Music like myself, the hotel is a must stay! The reception has signed photographs of both Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, the Venetian salon was the inspiration for the von Trapp’s ballroom, and of course this is where the iconic lake scenes were filmed!

We had a lovely 2-night stay at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron and overall, it was a memorable experience. The room was spacious, with plenty of room for all of our luggage, and we truly appreciated the free parking onsite, which made things more convenient for us. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always eager to assist with any questions or requests, the bathroom products provided were of high quality and added a touch of luxury to our stay and the hotel's location was also fantastic, as it was easily walkable to all the major attractions in Salzburg, making it the perfect base for exploring the city. A definite highlight of our stay was the breakfast in the palace each morning. The setting was absolutely stunning, with beautiful rooms that created a truly unique atmosphere. The service was excellent, and there was an abundance of food options to choose from. Overall, we had a great time at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron and would recommend it to anyone visiting Salzburg, especially for its charm, excellent location, use in the Sound of Music film and unique atmosphere.

Our room had two sections: an entryway leading to the bathroom, and then a separate bedroom. Unfortunately, both sections were quite cold, with the bathroom being especially chilly in the mornings. We asked about the heaters, and although they were turned up as high as possible, they didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Additionally, there were very few options to plug in chargers, and there wasn’t a convenient place for a kettle, which made things a bit challenging. Another downside was the WiFi in the room, which was quite unreliable. We had to keep walking out into the hallway to get a decent connection, and once back in the room, it would quickly cut out again.

This hotel is straight out of a Brigerton episode and you are the lady of the house. The location is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. Thee are ducks and birds and blooming flowers everywhere. The rooms in the meirhoff building are a little dated but that did not take away from the experience and honestly felt like it fit right in with the overall vibe. Breakfast in the palace ballroom each morning was wonderful. The views great, and the food great as well. While it may seem fairly far away from the fortress my husband and I were able to walk from the hotel to the fortress in under 30 min. There is a fairly steep hill you must get up but overall not a bad walk. There are multiple restaurants within walking distance, all delicious as well.

The ONLY thing that was a slight negative was the fact that there was no A/C. It was April when we visited so it was easy to cool the room off by opening the window however. In the summer that may not be the case.

A must for Sound of Music fans!… These were a few of my favourite things: The surrounding area is very green with parks, streams and small canals and views to the old fortress. The location is fantastic with gardens, terraces and seating areas. and a beautiful view across the lake to the mountains beyond. The grand interiors of the palace are impressive. We enjoyed a great breakfast with lots of choice. We hired the hotel bikes and cycled around the lake. The bar and lounge areas in the annexe building are very nicely decorated. All the staff were courteous and professional.

We stayed in the annexe building. Our room was very clean but not so attractive and in need of some updating. There was a kettle in the room and nice toiletries in the bathroom but I was surprised that there wasn’t a mini fridge or other extras in the bathroom

The lake, the ducks, the happy staff, the property, the Schloss, wandering around the grounds and in general absolutely everything. Beautiful, stunning and magnificent! Breakfast in the dining room was superb. I highly recommend taking a bike for the day and sight seeing. The bar is brand new and the staff are super friendly. David the head barman was the most delightful person and really is an asset to the hotel. Thank you for the most beautiful stay. The hotel and staff are exceptional.

The only thing I disliked was having to leave.

We chose this hotel for the connection it had with The Sound of Music. The grounds are really beautiful and although we stayed in the “annex” hotel, the palace itself where breakfast is served is amazing and really made the stay special. The breakfast had SO many hot and cold options and honestly really worth a visit whether you stay at the hotel or not. The hotel is a short/medium walk from the centre and the bathroom was nice too.

For the type of hotel it is and the rate we paid, the “annex” hotel is a little worn. The table had marks all over it and was not standing even on the floor and the window and radiators were grubby where I had to wipe it all down before we hung a hanger off of it to dry some clothes we washed. The room was also really warm with no air con options (which I can understand if the type of building doesn’t allow for air con units) but prepared to be warm.
