Great welcome from receptionist, lovely view from our room, ambience generally v good, comfy bed, everywhere nice and clean, nice bathtub, nicely furnished. Lovely restaurant vibe, tasty food, staff - again - v good. Nice welcome for Fergal our dog, although £30 is v expensive for the 'dog fee'. I did know in advance, but still steep.

V minor points & we enjoyed our stay BUT a nice bit of artwork over the fireplace in Reception would really make the place sparkle; ditto some art on the walls elsewhere would be nice, as it felt a little bare. Some hanging hooks in the bathroom for clothing would be v useful, as would face flannels and small selection of biscuits with the tea/coffee tray; we'd expect that for the £165 paid. The 'back of painting' art pieces were OK, but overdone; one would have been enough... Some variation would have been great. Couldn't seem to access terrestrial or online TV channels on the TV, which was a pity. Thanks for a nice stay though.

Our stay was genuinely great and relaxing ! The hotel is in perfect location just 5min or less from the beach walking distance Our room was on the third floor with a see view from our bed which I must say has added an extra touch to our stay .Our room was very clean , bed was high but comfortable , and bathroom came with both a bath and shower which was a nice Suprise , — couldn’t have asked for more. What really made the experience stand out was the staff. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the staff were outstanding—friendly, and always ready to help .Every interaction was warm, professional, exceptionally calm and very thoughtful. It’s rare to feel this well taken care of. Highly recommended!

Lift would be a bonus but it didn’t really matter in our case.

A Lovely old building, stylishly decorated and very chilled and comfortable for a restful stay. In prime position over the beach and harbour.A very nice room also, smaller than expected, but perfectly adequate for short stay. Such a cosy and comfortable bed that sat quite high, could be problematic for some, but we enjoyed it as it enabled a better sea view..maybe its intentional? Teas and coffee facilities were great, a good selection of quality teas and coffee. A fan in case the room got hot but with the window opened it allowed a lovely sea breeze..We found the room to have a wonderful peaceful vibe and felt very relaxed during our stay especially as we retired for the night quite late after a night out. Great shower and gels provided though. A lovely bar and restaurant downstairs that served great drinks and food, very very enjoyable and a great ambience. All staff were pretty much really helpful and friendly. Especially bar and restaurant staff and day and night porter. All in all we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend and revisit!

Shower/tiles needed deep clean, probably hard water area though, not dirty but maybe stained. Lack of near parking could be problematic as car park nearby full. Pub on lower level could disturb an otherwise great sleep.

The Grade II listed building has been tastefully preserved and decorated in a sympathetic manner, retaining a palpable sense of history. Our room at the top the house was lovely, with oak beams, a nautical feel and a superb view of the Royal Harbour. It was also spotless. We loved the en suite bathroom with its generous shower, which worked perfectly. The staff were great, warm and helpful without being obsequious, and our full English breakfast was excellent. The coffee was especially good, piping hot and freshly made - which is not always the case in hotels at this price point.

There is no lift, and climbing three steep flights of stairs isn't for everyone. At the very top, where the walls narrow, I had to duck and turn my shoulders to negotiate the gap (I'm 6ft 1in). That's the down side of a historic building, I guess. The room was too warm (in April), even with a window open, and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work.

We loved the incredible views and staff. The hotel is decorated really well and has exhibitions, master class, etc events through the year. Staff were super friendly. Dog friendly up to 15Kg - hooray! Pretty good food and terrific cocktails with local imagination.

This hotel really could do with some allocated parking. It is a real scrum mid summer to find a space near the hotel that doesn't cost £5.20 for 110 minutes! With this being such an old hotel, that Queen Victoria stayed in (fantastic), it has the issue of no lift. I had an elderly lady as part of my family and an elderly dog and we were late in requesting lower level rooms so had the second floor. I was told it was 2 flights of stairs, but in reality 2 flights is the equivalent to four flights of normal stairs. I think my mother said over 50 stairs. It was really tough carrying my dog up and down them and tricky for my mother. If you have an older member of family staying there with you go for first floor and nothing higher.

location was fantastic. decor was lovely. bathroom was luxurious. bed extremely comfortable. the dining area was nice and the evening food was very good but overpriced. breakfast was delicious and worth every penny. staff were brilliant, provided us with an excellent travel cot that was already set up for us and allowed us a very early check in.

parking was a slight issue as we were travelling with a four month old baby and had a lot of stuff to ferry across from a car park around the corner. the room was very dark at night, some lighting wasn’t working and the ‘big’ lights were very dim. The evening food was lovely but I felt it was extremely expensive for what it was. Breakfast was worth the money but we got charged for water, juice, tea and coffee. I wouldn’t normally have an issue with this of course, it’s just we weren’t given a drinks menu so assumed it was included. The menu even stated that guests get complimentary tea and coffee! the waitress said ‘would you like some water, can I get you an orange juice?’. Maybe I’m naive but it just felt complimentary when they offered it.

Fabulous location, smart, well renovated with charming common spaces, lounges and bar area. Very comfortable bed and smart bathroom with great shower and lovely toiletries.

We tried to upgrade our room, as it was unbearably hot in the attic room, but despite the hotel being almost empty, we weren't able to. There was no wifi during our stay and when the reception staff have left, nobody in the bar knew the password. There is a 4th floor walk up to the tiny, attic rooms. We would have dined in the hotel, but they were only serving roast dinners on a very warm August evening. Shame, as the lounge bar and dining area looked great.

Beautifully designed rooms. Tastefully furnished and relaxing. Wonderful view. Wonderful location. Attentive, courteous, and friendly staff. Excellent communication from the point of booking to check-out. Dasha greeted us with a smile and made us feel extremely welcome throughout our stay. We look forward to returning.

In such hot weather, it would be great if rooms included a fridge. The bathroom needed two hooks on the back of the door to suit a couple. It would also be useful to have a small shelf in the shower for toiletries. Breakfast is tasty but a little pricey.
