We stayed at this hotel just under 20 years ago for our wedding night and thought it would be nice to return and reminisce. It has changed hands a few times since then but the charm of the hotel still remains. Our room was lovely and spacious, our breakfast yummy and the bar food we ordered was delicious too.

I'm not sure I like the self check in process. It made the hotel feel a little impersonal - no greeting/goodbye as you entered/left the hotel. The rooms also need to have an info file in. As there is nobody at check in to tell you what time breakfast is we had to go to our booking.com reservation to try and find out the times.

We are not lovers of buffet breakfasts, however, here, the selection was reasonable and nicely cooked. Dinners - reasonable selection, nicely cooked and presented. Room - A 'Privilege' room, good size, clean and nicely appointed. view of garden. Location - Excellent, if you enjoy country walking, and also convenient for Dorking and M25 Outdoor heated pool - 30metres long, Absolutely sperb facility. The staff working in public areas, (bar, pooletc), all excellent, most polite, friendly and extremely helphul.

The hotel is very old, and an attractive building from the outside, but on entering, we found the enctrance hall and most public areas poorly lit, which coupled with dark decor and furnishisshings, created, in our opinion, a rather dismal and uninviting appearance. Also, not ideal for visually impaured people, like myself. There seems to be a rather casual attitude to some aspects of administration and managment as apart from Fire Alarm procedure, we were unable to find any helpful information about the hotel, such as mealtimes, layout, services available, anywhere in the building, without searching for a member of staff. Despite these remarks, however, the hotel has many good things to offer mad we will probably return when next in the area.

We liked our very combatable lovely room comfy bed. Bathroom was clean Room did have a safe useful Great view overlooking the gardens Breakfast was good and good choice Dogs allowed excellent Had an outdoor heated swimming pool bonus

Windows didn't lock ( old windows)but was ok as on 1st floor but still not ideal Bathroom was careworn.....needs bath taken out and large shower cubicle put in place. ( a shower over the bath antiquated these days we feel)! Ordered a drink in the bar ran out of lemonade 🙃 They serve food but don't do a Sunday lunch which they are going to do! Breakfast was excellent but need a cover over the cold top as flys were landing on the cheese and fruit! Not hygienic

We were very happily surprised with this hotel, which we booked very last minute given the sunny weather on the Bank Holiday. The outdoor pool was fantastic. We had booked a superior room with a balcony, as I feel a bit claustrophobic when I cannot open the window, particularly in the summer. On arrival, I was a bit disappointed we were not given the balcony room but we were upgraded to a " privilege" room in a more quiet part of the hotel overlooking a garden and gorgeous Box Hill, with a very large window. Everything in the room was great, it also had a mini fridge with free drinks. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely go back and recommend to friends.

We had stated lift access in case ground floor was not available. To our knowledge the hotel has no lift but the few stairs to get to our room were easy even with a suitcase. Parking costs £10 per night, but the price for the room was so economical that we didn't mind.

It’s hard to describe how uplifting this experience was. I’m disabled and walk with crutches, and I found that the staff were beyond helpful in every possible aspect- they were completely brilliant. Thank you so much 🙏🏻 As to the hotel itself, and especially for the tiny price I paid, I was literally gobsmacked at how beautiful it was, how gorgeous the grounds were and how superb the very well run the outdoor Lido was. It’s apparently 100 years old. I watched a staff member scrub all around the edge of the pool at the close of play. It’s pristine and heated which was a very pleasant surprise. The food in the pretty restaurant was very good too. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a stay here before everyone finds out what a hidden treasure it is, in the stunning Surrey countryside. I’ll be a frequent visitor from now on!

Some adapted rooms might be nice and a little more wheelchair accessibility, but it wasn’t an issue at all and didn’t detract from my holiday

Enjoyed sea bass evening meal and the fact that we could order our food at the bar for a set time, while we went back to our room for baths and showers, as chef would leave at 9pm. Since we had come from the Hampton Court Palace Flower Festival, did not check in until 19:30. Lido was lovely, enough time to digest outdoor breakfast before having a dip prior to checking out. Dog friendly meant that we stayed here a second time. Relaxed atmosphere.

When my husband went to run his bath, he discovered that there was no plug!!! We had a tight slot to make before dinner, so this was a bit stressful. He had to go to reception. I managed to contact them via my mobile, as no phone in room. Thankfully, the matter was resolved in time. It reminded me of my youthful backpacking days when global travellers who stayed in budget hostels always carried their own plugs! I thought that the management ought to oversee rooms once they have been serviced. Also after enjoying the abundance of flowers at the festival, some of the troughs looked a bit bare and were devoid of planting/ floral displays, which would have enhanced the garden.

Everything was brilliant, beautiful surroundings, views, staff. We stayed 2 nts B/B 1st morning breakfast was lovely evening hot cold good variety of food. Next morning Bank Holiday there was shortage of Everything especially hot food, there was only sausage beans and eggs left. Asked for tomatoes mushrooms and hash brown, they run out nothing in the stock, being vegetarian was bit disappointed.😔 have to have beans on toast Surly big hotels they know from booking how many people to cater for Secondly I read a review the outdoor pool will be open from May to September I even massage and Asked if it's open. Clearly mentioned pool will be open on the dates we're staying it was closed 😔 I could have booked other hotel with a pool but wanted to experience outdoor heated pool

Loved the location, just a few minutes from the local train station and perfect for walking in the hills. Staff were friendly and helpful. Stylish modern decor with lots of places to relax or work inside and garden spaces and the big pool outside. The room was quiet and overlooked gardens to the rear. Coffee tea and biscuits provided. Fridge had space inside if you needed it. Black-out curtains were great. Also loved the nice deep bath and overhead shower.

Check-in at 3pm is a bit late in the day. However there was no problem storing luggage until the room was available.

Room 324 so much better, thank you. Spacious room, clean, good night’s sleep. Next to Box Hill. Pool area. Friendly staff.

The previous night’s stay in room 211 was bad. Paid for a second night and reception very kindly found us a room in the annex behind the garden. Thank you! So much better and much appreciated! The pool isn’t for hotel guests only. It is a very busy lido so not much space. Also when very busy, the small number of staff can struggle to attend to everyone in a reasonable time. So prepare to be patient… That said, staff are friendly and try their best.

All staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was very luxurious and spacious, good size TV that rotates.

It's not that I didn't like it, it is just a suggestion - I had travelled 5 hours (traffic) to get there and it would have been nice to have quiet time for residents in the outdoor pool of an evening (summer time only - or heat waves :) - not that you can predict the weather in the UK). I know the pool closed at 6:30 - but maybe a 6:45 - 7:30 residents only time or something. However I did get up early and use the pool at 7am.
