The location was excellent, walking distance to Windermere and Bowness. Staff very friendly, the receptionist was extremely knowledgeable about the local area and transport links. Excellent breakfast choice.
Cleanliness was a bit of an issue. We had several large cobwebs hanging from light fittings and around the wall/ceiling area. Shower screen needs replacing as it is very worn. The curtains were missing lots of hooks and so looked very messy and were difficult to pull together.

This is so difficult to review. I say this because there are new owners apparently and my understanding is that they wish to improve the facilities. What did I like? without doubt the staff are really friendly, efficient and couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast was superb, and the dining room is very welcoming albeit a little cold as the outside door was left open continually. There is a lovely bar area and the location of the hotel is good. Nearer to Windermere than Bo’ness but easily walkable for able bodied people.
The bedroom was quite tired and noise from upstairs rooms and next door room can be heard. Thankfully there were no early risers or party goers whilst we were there. Simply the age of the building causing the problem. The decor is tired throughout and the carpets are very, very well worn. This is what makes it difficult to review because you halve the potential for this to be a top hotel and if the new owners were to invest in refurbishment and I suspect they will, then it really will be a place worth returning to.

The breakfast was delicious. The room was very clean, nice gifts in the room, plenty of drink sachets, chocolates and bathroom products. It was nice and warm in the room so we just switched radiator off, and opened window. It is a very good location. Plenty of parking. Very nice reception staff. This room could do with a little upgrade but we paid good price and most importantly it was very clean. We would definitely stop here again and recommend to others.
We stopped in a room with four poster bed but the room wasn’t big enough to take the four poster. It meant one of us couldn’t see the full screen on the tv as it was blocked by the post. For this room I would just have a normal bed. The wallpaper was coming off the wall near the window, small thing but with upgrade it would be great.

Lovely building tastefully decorated throughout.Large room and comfortable bed.Everywhere was spotlessly clean Great location midway between Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere.Tasty breakfasts. Friendly staff and onsite parking.
Hotel was too noisy for us and this disturbed our sleep Floorboards above us banged everytime someone moved. Also we could hear them talking loudly until.after midnight.Something was turned on at 7am which sounded like jumbo jets were taking off.Room was also too light for us.We had a fire escape in our room and the nets covering the door let in light all night.

We liked everything! We paid 125 pounds for a night (3 persons) and though I specifically chose hotel with very good reviews I was expecting a small room for such (not expensive for Windermere) price. However, all our expectation were exceeded. The room was a really good size! Very lovely and cosy. High quality bedding, comfort beds. Free parking is included, and I think there was enough place for all guests. Breakfast was included too and it was really good. You can choose between full English breakfast, vegetarian breakfast, salmon with scrambled eggs and pancakes (coffee, tea, fruits, cereals, juices, toasts, jams are included too). Pancakes were amazing with a lot of berries on top. Staff was very lovely.
There is nothing we didn't like! We would definitely stay in the same hotel again. But you should know, that there is now lift there (we stayed at the top floor and it was no problem for us).

This was a short stay over Valentines night. The Hotel is perfectly placed between Bowness & Windermere Upon arrival we realised that our room did not have a bath which my wife prefers to a shower. We did not want to be the complaining couple so we enquired whether it would be convenient for us to move rooms and we were pleasantly surprised when our receptionist approved the move. Our second room did not have a four poster bed which the previous did but as we hadn't specifically requested this it was fine. The bath was a hydro bath which generated bubbles and my wife was delighted.
I was slightly disappointed when I had trouble with the shower controls which were loose and difficult to navigate. Our manager did resolve the problem in the morning so it all ended well. However it would have been good to know the "knack" to use the shower when we changed rooms. The Hotel is a little bit dated but it is clean and the staff are lovely.

Walked the distance from windermere Station and bowness that we were in-between both locations walking distance the room was very warm the staff kept our bags secure until our train was due which gave us the day to board the ferry and have some lunch this is the 2nd time we've stayed there the breakfast is excellent and lovely very filling as much tea as you want the pancakes we're a treat very peaceful stay we even tipped the maid she was very polite to us I would recommend staying there we chose the room up top of the house the floor boards creek but that's part of the character
If I was to say anything negative the shower in the room wasn't powerful however the room was very comfortable

Very clean and tidy establishment, central for both Windermere and Bowness. Excellent provision of local buses to Ambleside, Grasmere, Kendal, and Keswick.
New locks had been fitted to the room doors. Problem being the yale type barrels were fixed by existing holes in the opening doors. However the latch plates on the door jambs were too far forward. This over centred the roller on the sliding bolt. Requiring excessive force to actually open the room doors. The blame is directed at the tradesmen not the hotel. Regardless enjoyed our stay.

The staff were very friendly and helpful if you needed advice or assistance with anything. The beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was nicely cooked and plentiful. We loved our visit to the Lake District and would definitely stay again in the Woodlands if returning. The guest house is well located, halfway between Windermere Town and Bowness on Windermere. We had a hired car, but you could easily travel by bus to Grassmere or Keswick, if needed, as the bus stop was just a few yards away.
Nothing to complain about.

The staff were are really accommodating and our room around the back was huge and very well appointed. The breakfast was easy and good value for money. The Guest House is perfectly situated if you are looking to tour the area and was an easy walk to both Windemere and Bowness. The bed was super comfy and the room was spotless
I would have liked the option of a barista coffee in the guest house as the room option was limited. The option of a snack bar would also have been appreciated especially for those evenings when you don't feel like going out for dinner or simply feel like a snack
