A simple double room that had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the room was simple but spacious, including a kettle, armchairs, wardrobe and desk. The check in was done virtually so we didn't have to go through reception, we just went straight to our bedroom. The grounds are amazing and it is quite a relaxing space.

The place is a bit further from Ambleside than described, it's about a 20-25min walk. The rooms could've been cleaner (lots of cobwebs in the windows, some hairs in the shower) and the windows are single-glazed, so it can get a bit loud if there are schools around. Would definitely stay again, but there's also room for improvement.

Fantastic location, very peaceful and stunning views. Delicious barista coffee available. Staff very friendly and helpful. Accommodation very clean and fairly comfortable.

If I have to sleep in a single bed, would prefer a wider one. No bedside table, so tricky to manage phone, water, etc. Also the footpath down from accommodation building to main building was down steps. I'm a little disabled, and could manage the steps fine, except for bottom few, which were too steep. And just when they became steep, the handrail gave out. So was very difficult coming back up for me. Handrail should be extended to the ground level.

Brathay Lodge is a gorgeous retreat centre in the heart of the Lake District, we chose this accommodation as it was very close to Chapel Stile and a walk to Slaters Bridge and the Cathedral Cave, which we had planned for our fist day in the Lakes. The Lodges are nestled in beautiful grounds with breath-taking views of the local terrain. Our room was in one of the Scafell lodges and was sensational. Very large and clean with a lovely bathroom, massive bed and a little living area with a table and relaxing chairs to enjoy the local views! Unfortunately there is no restaurant on site for guests (only for those on-site as part of an organised retreat), but we knew this when we booked. Local pubs include the Drunken Duck and Outgate Inn. It would be nice if guests could be offered the option to join retreat guests for a simple meal (as an added extra). This would also afford guests to learn about each other and the amazing work the Brathay Trust engages in. A cold breakfast can be provided if required, again it would be lovely to have the option of a hot breakfast for those planning an adventurous day ahead! I would definitely recommend the Brathay Lodges and will certainly be visiting again in the near future.

Availability of hot food on site.

Great welcome from reception staff, helpful information given. We were in top floor looking out towards the lake - absolutely beautiful and to watch the sunrise. Fridge in room was useful. Lounge/coffee facilities were appreciated. The walk to the lake was stunning and we were able to explore out on to the headland which was beautiful.

The weather was very warm that week and maybe for curtains to be closed and window slightly open it wouldn't have been such a hot room to walk into. A fan was supplied on request which was essential. Bathroom window had to be wedged open as catch had broken.

5 minutes drive from Ambleside town centre. Ours was a terraced cottage separate from main site. I enjoyed the very quiet remote location. Single track virtually no traffic. Stone house meant cool even though hot and humid outside. Self contained house, most modern cons. Beautiful setting, saw a red deer close up a minute from the house.

Narrow track not for nervous drivers. As an older cottage bathroom and bedroom quite dated but fine for us. Only lamp and power socket on one side of bed but we survived. Good WiFi.

The room was beautiful once i upgraded to a lodge. the views were exceptional, the cleanliness of the lodge was very good, the Tea/Coffee/hot choc & biscuits in the room were a little treat. A small fridge also in the room. Mike (Sit mgr) was exceptional and was always around if i needed any help with anything. A real asset to Brathay Hall.

The original room i was checked into the views were limited with a tree and branches in the view of the window, although it had recently been re-carpeted and painted this was not the room i wanted for my duration of my stay with very limited space for three days. The available Breakfast could have been a lot more adventurous.

The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. The view was spectacular. We didn't have breakfast as it was a pre-prepared breakfast bag delivered to the room and we have had those at Travelodge and were not keen so brought our own with us. We were able to take two dogs with us which was wonderful and they enjoyed the walking as much as we did. An added bonus, my daughter was able to launch her paddle board straight onto Lake Windermere from Brathay's boat house.

We had requested single beds (i travelled with my daughter) but when we got there it was one double bed but it was huge so not a problem.

Brathay Hall is located in beautiful, quiet surroundings, a walkable distance to Ambleside and with views of the lake at the front of the building. My friend and I were impressed by the efficient, kind support offered at reception on arrival and departure. We had already been emailed a code and a lodge number. The lodge allocated to us in Wansfell was an ideal size; the room was clean and it had a fridge & television. The large windows were an added bonus. Ambleside is a wonderful place at which to stay, especially for walking/cycling, and the facilities were secure as regards our belongings. We would be delighted to return. If anything, the promotional material under-rates Brathay's qualities.

Not a criticism at all, but we were not sure if any of the lodges had self-catering (for future reference). A larger and more atmospheric bar might have been pleasing, too.

THE PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHING THE LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK. the location is like 20 minutes walk from the main Ambleside town. theres plenty parking space which is free. the staff is very helpful. the property is huge and right next to lake . we enjoyed our stay ion the Lodge. rooms are huge and so are the washrooms. theres drying facility in every Lodge which was bonus because it was raining during our stay and the clothes dried very fast in this.

Very good location just a 15 minute walk to the centre, accommodation was great and exactly what we were after, heating and water was off on arrival but a very quick response from staff got that sorted, bunk beds downstairs and ample toilets and showers albeit we couldn’t work the lights so showers and dumps in the darkness but that didn’t put us off, WiFi is public so not the best and could benefit from its own private WiFi but again we managed
