Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was our anniversary and they put petals on the bed and a bottle of Prosecco in our room which was a lovely touch. Room was spacious and clean - we stayed in room 6 (Shute) and we loved that we got breakfast served in the room. Breakfast was excellent, especially the pancakes! Excellent location in the middle of both Windermere and Bowness (15 minutes walk to both). Great value for money.

Room stay: Room 3 - Pong. Double bed, small bathroom with shower. Minimal / restricted views. Two nights. Clean and comfortable room with plenty more tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room than is normally expected - a welcomed thing to see. High and comfortable bed with both a hard and a softer pillow and cushions, two bedside lamps, blind for room blocked most light out, and the tv placement was good. Staff were wonderful - chatty, shared some insights about the local area and could see (and hear) how much they have enjoyed working there. Set the tone to immediately feel relaxed and at home. They even looked after our bags whilst we went off exploring as we had arrived earlier than expected and again when we checked out, we were able to return later to collect some bags before our train. This made a huge impact to what we could do in a short stay! On the feel - As B&Bs can be, had a small number of rooms. We could have gotten lucky but even the feel of the place meant that heading down to the dining room for breakfast all the guests were chatting and welcoming. We had a small conversation with two people who had just completed their stay. Food - we had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg, vegetarian breakfast and pancakes. All were tasty and of a good portion to set you up for the day. Had a selection of yogurt, fruit salad, fruit compote, toast and cereal on the side too. Plenty of salmon with the scrambled eggs. Location - Lots of B&B’s around but the Rum Doodle being a short walk or bus ride away from Windermere station means does allow for easy access to both Windermere and Bowness. Shared by staff that Bowness was usually the slightly more busy town and it did seem it, but we found ourselves there more for food and drink on an evening places like at the Bowness Tap Rooms. Bus at the end of the road was easy to take across to Grasmere.

No shower shelf in the bedroom. Would have been a nice extra to allow for space to put toiletries in the shower without having to reach down. The website stated that rooms would have a comic adventure ‘The Adventures Of Rum Doodle’ which we would have both wanted to have seen but was sadly missing from our room - unless we were unable to locate. But did see some other books in the room so presumed it would be easily seen. The television Remote in our room had stiff buttons causing it to be frustrating to use. All small cons, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had an amazing stay at Rum Doodle! We were met with a warm welcome from the owner and were offered a welcome drink. We chose red wine 🍷 The breakfast room was lovely, they had cereal, fruit bowls, toast and yoghurt available for all guests and a choice of a cooked breakfast for an additional charge. They have a communal fridge available in the breakfast room for you to place drinks to keep cool if you wish. The room was clean, well decorated and so comfortable! Overall, I would highly recommend it and we will definitely be visiting again. Thank you!

The WIFI can be a bit choppy. However, they have two networks available to use.

The property, the room and dining room were all absolutely charming with little quirky design choices giving it a very modern feel. We stayed in room 3 (classed as small double) not a massive room but not many are in windermere and the bed was soooo comfy had an amazing nights sleep. Breakfast was delicious and had a number of cooked to order choices including pancakes with fruit or smoked salmon and scrambled egg. We opted for the traditional cumbrian breakfast and was not disappointed. Property is located on a quiet residential street so was extremely tranquil. Hosts were lovely and for the amazing price we paid one of the best on offer in Windermere in our opinion. We will definitely be back.

We've just returned from our two night stay at Rum Doodle and could not be happier with this charming and quirky B&B. We were met at the door and shown to our gorgeous room - The Jungle Room - shown around and offered a drink whilst we settled in. I did the great north swim, hence the stay, and had to be out early before breakfast times. And so we were offered a pack up instead. We were so pleased with our sandwiches, yoghurt with compote, fresh fruit salad, and smoothies! Beats a meal deal any day!! Having a bath in the room was most definitely welcome after my swim, especially since the heavens opened that morning, soaking us (and all my dry clothing) to the bone! I am sad that we didn't find the robes in the wardrobe until we were ready to leave! Breakfast on the Sunday was beautiful. Everything was really high quality and served in our room. The location was excellent, and only 2 mins drive into Bowness or Windermere - you couldn't really ask for a better location. Off-road parking is available but can get a bit tight in the car park. Staff were so helpful, polite, and available when needed.

This B&B is a hidden jewel. This picturesque little building is beautiful inside and out. Named after the booked “The ascent of Rum Doodle”, each room is themed after a chapter, we stayed in “Wish”. It’s quirky and comfortable. This cozy little B&B really has it all. Greeted on arrival, the host went over a couple of housekeeping rules abs gave us our key. The room was spotless and as a special nod to our wedding anniversary, they had put petals on our bed. Lovely view from our room of the Lakes hills. The room has everything you could need, kettle, with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and complementary biscuits, TV and access to DVDs….a hair dryer too (great for me as my personal one is huge!) The night was quiet and we slept well in a comfortable bed. Great choice of menu for breakfast, the first morning we had a traditional breakfast and the second morning I had fresh salmon with eggs and my husband had Pancakes… all of which were amazing, hot and servers quickly too! Staff were very polite, kind and helpful. Nothing was too much for them and we were sad to leave. Honestly, has such a lovely stay. In walking distance of Bowness, local shops and boats. Buses are frequent.

There is nothing we didn’t like. Some steep steps at the side, but smaller ones on the other side of the building.

Very good location :) Parking behind the hotel and some spaces along the road. Run doodle is very charming warm and welcoming. we stayed in room 6 it was absolutely beautiful. The bed was so comfortable and lovely pillows had the best sleep here. Tea and coffee in the room with a kettle. Tv in the room and WiFi. Dressing robes in the wardrobe with hanging space with an iron and small ironing board. There is also a hairdryer in the dressing table. Lots of space in the draws too. Really good powerful and hot shower with lovely fluffy big towels. The room was nice and warm at all times but the added bonus of an oil filled radiator if you get a little cold. We had breakfast in our room both days and it was so good very hot a fresh tasted great. Fresh juices and fresh coffee. The staff are so polite and friendly.

Very nice stay B&B run by friendly staff. The room was gorgeous and very clean and tidy. Facilities were great, clean shower and bathroom. Free parking round the back was great as the road is quite narrow. The building is very welcoming and nicely decorated throughout. Located right in the middle of Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere town, it was a 15 minute walk to get to either central point. Nice touches with having access to fridges and freezers, also leaving a bottle of wine in our room on arrival. Staff were very friendly and helpful, very welcoming. The room was gorgeous (superior four poster) and very clean, being served breakfast in our room was great too, enjoying it at our own leisure and in PJ’s! Great choice of starters; cereal, fruit bowls, yoghurts and choices of teas and coffee. Main breakfast again lots of choice and variations to please everybody, we had the cooked Cumbrian breakfast which was delicious.

Great location, fantastic breakfast. We had the attic room and it was a perfect escape for 3 nights. Enough room for two of us to spread out with the lounge area and close to everything we wanted to do in the Lake District. The The room was really nicely presented too, loved the bookcase and furniture was gorgeous.

Parking was a little tight, especially when the place had more guests but that's to be expected in a place like the Lake District I guess! The bathroom was a little dated, especially the toilet which didn't have a very strong flush, but this wasn't too bad especially considering the overall aesthetic of the place which was beautiful.

Fantastic guest house, room was so homely and cosy. The breakfast was the perfect set up for the day of walking ahead. Great location and walking distance in between Windermere and then Bowness-on-Windermere. Staff were so friendly and helpful with recommendations. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during our first trip to the Lake District.
