We loved this hotel. The property is very well maintained the rooms are spacious, spotless, the staff very helpful and the main rooms are charming. The location is excellent for seeing the area. We traveled to so many lovely places by the convenient buses. Alex the assistant manager is an assist to the company. She is attentive and extremely helpful. She helped me on several small personal issues. They are lucky to have her. The rooms were clean expertly by Jaqueline ( I believe that is her name apologies if I got it wrong) We will most definitely return.

Lovely location in town. Plenty of beautiful walks from the front door. Bus stop just there if you want to go Ambleside or Keswick. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable room.

Loved the welcome cake on arrival. Our room was clean and smelled lovely. It had balcony doors leading out to a flat roof, this means we could fully open them to get plenty of fresh air in. The bed and pillows were both comfortable. The bathroom was very new and modern and was cleaned to a high standard. It even had anti mist mirrors which was very appreciated as the bathroom, being small, did get misty very quick. Some people in other reviews mentioned it being awkward to get out of the bath/shower. Although, it was a small bathroom, it was perfectly fine getting in and out as long as you kept the door shut and folded the shower door away properly before you tried to get out. In fact, the shower was amazing! The controls and buttons were really intuitive and there was hot water on demand. The breakfast was perfect, we really liked the homemade yoghurt and oat pots. They had a toaster so you can toast your bread exactly how you like it. Also cereals, orange and apple juice, pastries, yoghurts and milk (oat milk available on request). The staff were smiling and attentive and happily ensured the coffees kept coming. We saw three separate girls and all three couldn’t do enough for us.

There wasn’t much we didn’t like! The carpark was right in front of the property and held about 7/8 cars comfortably. But I don’t think that was enough for all rooms. We got a space when we checked in, but it was full when returning from an evening meal at 9:30 pm. HOWEVER, we just parked on the road opposite the property where there was plenty of spaces at that time. Parking there is free from 6pm to 9am, then it turns to 1 hour free parking. When we got up, we just moved the car to the paid car park 1 mins walk from the hotel. It’s £8 for 24 hours. We thought we may have to use this car park so we factored this into our budget. Even with this, the price was still cheaper than comparable hotels in the area.

Victorian House is in an excellent position to explore Grasmere. The holel staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the room "The Shepherd's Hut" which was a sort-of converted old-style caravan but connected to a spacious bathroom. It's situated on the grounds of the hotel, but near a river, and there is access to a fire pit in the garden too, with everything required provided by the hotel. We had a fantastic cooked breakfast and were also able to make the most of some of the continental buffet too . . . the home-made yoghurt was excellent! A parking space was ready for us when we arrived, a real bonus.

The only thing we didn't like was leaving . . . we could have stayed and enjoyed the setting so much longer.

Excellent breakfast, served efficiently and courteously. The new manager who had just started in post was very impressive, with some perceptive ideas on how to improve the experience of guests. We had a comfortable room, well appointed.

We would have liked a more suitable lounge to relax in the evenings. We understand that that problem is being addressed. Similarly, we had understood from the website that we could have a light meal in the evenings but this was not the case. Again, the manager has already updated the website and re-defined the hotel as bed and breakfast only.

To start off, this place is located right across a sheep farm that's a few steps away from your door. When we first arrived, we were mesmerized by the greenery and the cattle. We were checked in and the staff were very friendly. They have complimentary cake at the entrance, which was some of the greatest cake I've ever had. If you're booking, don't miss the breakfast. I left today and I'm still craving their Royal Egg Benedict. They accomodated our Halal food requests and were very greatful. The location itself is perfect. Very close to the bus stops. And you could get a bus to ambleside and, more importantly, Keswick. The room was warm, cozy and clean. They have warmed towels and lovely hot water. Overall, an unforgettable experience and I'm definitely going back again.

This is a true gem of a hotel. We have stayed in many hotels around Grasmere, these tend to be more corporate types and the personal touch just isn’t there. However, the Victorian House has friendly staff, from the young man on reception that greeted us on arrival, to the staff serving breakfast, everyone was polite, professional and all wanted to make sure that throughout our stay we were looked after. The cosy double room was more than adequate for our stay, spotlessly clean, freshly decorated and furnished, lovely view of the garden, peaceful and quiet. The shower was super efficient. The breakfast was just perfect offering continental and full English breakfasts and many variations to suit everyone. This hotel is a credit to those that work there.

There really wasn’t anything not to like

Everything about Victorian House was wonderful. My husband and I traveled there (with our dog) and with my parents for a long weekend away; parents stayed in the main house and husband and I had the shepherd's hut. The shepherd's hut was divine, with its own little back garden looking right onto a beautiful stream - felt much more isolated than it was. The B&B is lovely, spotlessly clean, and Grasmere is a lovely village. Breakfast had a good number of options, all very nicely prepared. I must give extra mention to the team who were incredibly welcoming - especially to Susan who really went the extra mile to be kind to our pup! We'd love to return.

We stayed in the Shepherd Hut and found this such a delight. Lots of privacy and our own little patch outside where we used the fire pit at night. Its so quirky with a nice sizeable bathroom attached. The bed was very comfy and we found the breakfast delicious - plenty top ups provided as well of the coffee. There's also parking at the back of the hotel (3 spaces) if you need them (the parking spaces get taken up fairly early on check-in day (or others are already checked in) so plan this in for your stay) The staff went over and beyond being friendly. The location is very very central. What more could you want!

we really enjoyed the continental breakfast as well as the cooked option. I made a request each morning for a custom made breakfast as I don't eat eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms etc. The staff was more than willing to cook me what I required, I will state it was still off the breakfast menu so there was no silly requests. Also the continental breakfast was very good, I must say I loved the home made flapjacks.

We stayed in the little cottage behind the hotel, which where the dog friendly rooms. the only thing I would say is the walls were very thin and we could hear other peoples alarms, as we were on the ground floor you could hear every movement from upstairs.
