Everything. One of my best stays ever via Booking.com 1) Location is perfect, tucked away in Ambleside / Rydal countryside but still 20-min walk (5-min drive) away from both villages. Location is strategic to visit the Lake District: Most locations are less than 30-min drive away. 2) Property is a beautiful grade 2 listed building with very cute garden and in immaculate conditions. Interior designs are very stylish and very British. 3) Room was super spacious and bed was comfortable. 4) Breakfast was delicious and made with organic/local products. 5) Parking available on site. In the afternoon, hosts organise a lovely ice-cream stand just outside the property. 6) Hosts were impeccable in all aspects: Check-in, check-out, breakfast, recommendations, manners.

Not applicable. We liked everything. If I can recommend something to the hosts is perhaps to offer a couple of bikes to be rented on site.

The whole property has a period feel. The hosts are very welcoming and have thought of everything, such as providing torches and brollies if required for the walk back. A fantastic bedroom with lovely garden views and beyond. Very comfortable and spacious. Excellent breakfast. Free parking. Walks from the property to Grasmere, Skelwith Bridge and more so there is no issue with the parking. Just leave the car and set off from here. A 10 minute walk to the centre of Ambleside. A place with a real and positive difference to anywhere I have stayed before, and I think it I would struggle to find a spot better or even equalling this in Ambleside.

No negatives

In over 30 years of visiting the Lakes we have walked past this property many times but never stayed! Wish we had earlier. It is exceptionally well run. The hosts are most friendly, welcoming, accommodating. They were kind enough to give us an early breakfast so we could outrun Storm Babet on our way home! The breakfasts were probably the best we have had at B and B's. Great choice, beautifully sourced, cooked and presented. The house is kept immaculately clean. A real pleasure to stay.

A very warm welcome from Paul, very hospitable throughout our stay. Room was large and comfortable, a perfect location...deep in the countryside but only 10 minutes walk along an almost car free country road to Ambleside. 20 minute moderate climb from the garden and I was on top of Loughrigg fell with fantastic views.

Our experience at Foghyll, although short, was memorable. From the cheery,friendly greeting from Paul to leaving we couldn’t fault it. Beautiful room spotless and airy with lovely view of the gardens. One of the best breakfasts with attention to detail (warmed my bowl for my generous porridge portion) delicious hot English breakfast. Highly recommend

The hotel is a fabulous, set in an amazing location. The rooms are large, quiet and spotless. Breakfast is chosen off a menu and served directly to your table, hot and freshly prepared. The gardens are stunning with table and chairs. Due to there only being 3 rooms you get an excellent and personal service.

We loved everything

Breakfast had a great choice of fresh fruit, cereal, freshly made porridge and a delicious freshly made cooked breakfast with plenty on the plate. This give us a good start to the day to explore and walk to nearby Grasmere and Ambleside.

There was nothing to dislike. Couldn’t fault anything. The place is so well kept. Rooms are so so clean and comfortable.

Beautiful house, tastefully decorated and beautifully kept garden.. The Log Burner in the hallway immediately enticed us in to the warm and friendly environment provided by the Hosts.

Our room was well decorated and pristine. Only one minor point as far as we were concerned was the small bathroom, which didn’t affect us personally. There are most likely to be rooms with larger bathrooms.

Beautiful location, a lovely short walk into Ambleside, but equally well placed for a more substantial walk via beautiful streams / rivers and lakes into Grasmere. Lovely family too, warmly welcomed, very comfortable room, breakfast was delightful. Thank you for a lovely stay!

my room had a gorgeous view of the garden, the bed was super comfy, room temperature was perfect, really good size room. extra special mention of the window seat! Breakfast was well cooked, a lot of choice, and I just love having someone else cut up fruit for my breakfast 😚. the location was perfect. 15 minute walk into Ambleside or 10min to Rydal, meant we were far enough away to feel isolated and in the country, without actually being isolated at all. bonus ice cream shop at the bottom of the garden on a sunny day 😎 the hosts were the cherry on top
