staff were exceptional, always polite and always had a smile. The breakfast and main meals were very good, and value for money. The restaurant staff were attentive and efficient. The bar area was quite busy at times, due to functions and weddings, but we always managed a night cap. The drinks are a little pricey, but i suppose they are hotel prices. Special shout out to James the night porter, my husband is a very early riser, and his customer focus was exceptional, providing him with a coffee, and a friendly chat.

our first room, was tiny and very dated, there was a fire light that shone and illuminated the room at night, however on bringing this to the attention of the young receptionist, we were moved no problem.

Great location for the Bookfest at Dumfries House. Bar staff and waiting staff were friendly and attentive making guests feeling relaxed from the start. Convenient car parking. The bathroom was spacious with both a shower and bath which suited our needs. The full Scottish breakfast was most enjoyable with an option for a smaller portion.

We have stayed at the Dumfries Arms in the past. Although quiet, being at the back of the hotel, the room we were given on this occasion ( no.20) was a bit dark and dingy with its sloping ceiling, poor lighting and dark worn furniture and fabric. We felt it definitely was not worth the price paid for an overnight stay. However, the bed was very comfortable and we had a good sleep and didn't need to be in the room for long. We will return but would prefer a brighter room next time.

A Hidden Gem – Highly Recommend! I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Dumfries Arms Hotel, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome and excellent service set the tone. The hotel itself is a perfect blend of modern luxury and historic charm. The rooms are beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and incredibly comfortable. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the stylish furnishings, made for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The food at the hotel restaurant was outstanding. The menu offered a fantastic selection of beautifully presented, delicious dishes. The staff were attentive and friendly. If you’re looking for a hotel that offers elegance, comfort, and exceptional service, look no further. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend this wonderful establishment!

The breakfast was the only thing that I found a little disappointing - the girl who was on breakfast duty on her own did a sterling job but she needed someone else on duty with her - we had a party of 23 of us for breakfast albeit at different times but no one able to replenish bread for toast or fill milk jugs or refill orange juice etc as needed 2 people serving - eventually a further staff member did help out - otherwise excellent stay & would recommend hotel to friends & family.

Just the breakfast with only one staff member on duty - needed another to be on duty along with her to cater for everyone.

Location for a visit to Dumfries House was excellent. Staff were all most friendly and helpful. There is a lift to first floor bedrooms

Hotel was almost empty so the usual buffet breakfast wasn't made available! Upon request, some fruit was provided and this was lovely and fresh. Despite an accessible room showing on their website and me booking this , non are provided! there are only over the bath showers so my disabled sister had great difficulty in showering. Our room was meant to be Deluxe - not as described! Dark and tired and overpriced!

Comfort, cleanliness, breakfast was great.

I was told there was a lift. Then when arrived we found it only went as far as the 1st floor. They accommodated my request for a room accessible without stairs as I had an injured knee. They gave us another room which, once we arrived in the 1st floor we found was at the end of 3 more sets of stairs! We were charged £28 extra as the room was an “upgrade”. Other than my knee suffering for days after, the hotel was lovely. Just be aware of the limitations of the lift.

The room decor was tasteful and the room quiet. There was ample car parking in the public car park at the rear of the hotel.

Being a business traveller, the room lighting was a bid inadequate. This would be greatly improved with the addition of a bright working light on the desk. I had to remove the shade from the bedside light to enable me to work. Breakfast offering was limited. I had the wee breakfast - had to ask for the potato bread which was supposed to come with the breakfast, and there was no beans.

It is beautifully decorated throughout. Staff were lovely and breakfast was very nice. Room was comfortable

The only real criticism is that there were no USB sockets in the room - this is an easy thing to update, and not expensive. Everyone needs to charge their devices these days so this is essential for me. The only other issue was the accessibility of the rooms. Stairs were unavoidable to access the room, which proved difficult for one of my family members.

What a great find! Located in a small village but plenty of shops and grocery stores close by. Nice bar and lounge area for evening drinks or morning coffee with a nice restaurant for food. Room was large and beautifully furnished. Breakfast was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the bed was a little firm for me so they put on a topper. Ample parking and cheap EV charging. I had a little trouble figuring out the EV charger and they kindly gave me late checkout to get it sorted. Can’t recommend enough.

Wifi was a little slow at times

Rooms clean, beds comfortable, tea/coffee facilities in room. Staff friendly and helpful . Extensive menu for evening meals and the food was excellent. There was also a Bar/lounge. Good selection for hot breakfast, with fruit juice, cereals, bread and mini croissants on buffet table. In a great location to visit Dumfries House, 5 minute drive from hotel and only 25 mins drive to the coast

Asked for plug for bathroom sink on first day but it never appeared. Beds bases could have done with a valance to cover them as the material on the base of the beds was shredded, which looked shabby. Used bathroom cups not replaced, however we could have asked for replacements. It was only small housekeeping issues that stopped the review from being excellent all round.
