The accommodation was exquisite. The managers very accommodating after we had train delays to change our lunch reservation. On top of that our steaks were cooked to our taste… it’s a mean feat to get a medium rare steak cooked medium rare in the UK and what a succulent T Bone steak it was along with the very generous carvery. We came there mostly for the lunch but booked an overnight stay which also surpassed our expectations. The decor very South African in nature transported us back. You are doing an exceptional job in hospitality. Will definitely be back. And to top that our toddler had a fabulous time in the play park. We loved our Rooms, the food and the service

Nothing at all could be faulted or better

The place is absolutely above and beyond! Nested in a beautiful village in Surrey hills, fantastic spotless high quality accommodation, delicious restaurant (with some South African traditional dishes) and amazing beer garden with breathtaking view over the green landscape. This spot is perfect for a romantic getaway! We commuted by train from London to Guildford, enjoyed the lovely sunny day to walk to Chilworth (1h30 walk by Wey river & gorgeous countryside), the staff welcomed us with a huge smile, the checkin was processed quickly and we were delighted with our room (we booked the 'Double Room with Private Bathroom')! One of the rooms with a clawfoot bathtub. The room was super spacious, high-quality/comfort mattress/pillow, organic toiletries. Tip: bring your 'bubble bomb' to really enjoy the bath! The place is soundproof, and the surroundings have the characteristic countryside 'night silence'! I had the best sleep in weeks (lying on their mattress is an experience on its own!) We had dinner at the restaurant, all the food was super tasty, the service was friendly, wide variety of wine and cocktails. Both the Bobotie (traditional South African dish) and the prime rump were exceptional! Breakfast was included and, of course, it was also superb! From this location, there are endless walking trail options to choose from! We have walked through Black Heath Common, Shere, Abinger Roughs and North downs. I highly recommend it and will definitely return for some sunset drinks at the beer garden!

There was some miscommunication pre-arrival with card verification and the checkout was a bit odd (mostly by the way the payment was requested). Additionally, the place probably has a higher demand for guests that drive there, so they didn't have a storage where we could leave our luggage after checkout. We understood our things would be kept in the office, however, they were literally left in a corner of the restaurant all day. Although no incident occurred, leaving our belongings in a corner of the restaurant all day felt inadequate, especially considering the premium price paid and the otherwise high quality of the accommodations and amenities offered.

Lovely welcome, and helped with luggage up the stairs. Room was lovely and warm and beautifully decorated and clean. Although we didn't use them, very good selection of tea/coffee and bottled water provided. Very comfortable bed. On site restaurant was very impressive - good selection, with specials on offer too, very generous portion sizes and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was included in the bedroom price and again good selection of options. Toiletries were luxurious and shower pressure and temperature were also great.

Couple of minor maintenance issues - bathroom was rather dark and the mirror lights above the sink weren't working; toilet seat needed resecuring . A bit of noise being close to road and railway line, but didn't disturb our sleep.

Loved the decor. Beautiful taste in fabrics paint Furniture storage etc! Attention to detail. Had a wonderful circular walk and enjoyed train and bus to our evening rendez vous. Comfortable bed ! Breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. Very grateful indeed that we were reminded our musical instruments were in the office when we were leaving !!!! We were playing at a funeral. Fantastic stay! Would definitely stay there again.

Would have loved bar to have been available at end of our evening for a nightcap together.

The room was large with a large separate shower (very easy to operate) and separate room for toilet/sink. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The food at breakfast and at dinner was excellent and the service even on a very busy evening was exceptional. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The furniture in the bedroom was antique and quirky, decorative rather than functional, so there was no wardrobe or useful drawer space. Perfectly ok for a one night stay but for four days, it would have been nice to unpack. A minor niggle was the large wooden shelf over the sink making it difficult to clean teeth or wash. It was noisy at times, the pub is on a main road with a busy railway close by.

The staff are great! Always willing to ensure that our stay was a success. Everyone was friendly and always on hand to help in every way possible. An excellent carvery and a good everyday menu too.

Lack of cupboards in our room. Even if the length of stay is only a night or two people need somewhere to hang things and store clothes and shoes. The staff did sort out the situation and we settled in well. A couple of hooks on the back of the doors would be my suggestion.

Nice big room, very comfortable. The pub/restaurant was vibrant. A really good atmosphere. The food was FANTASTIC! I’m knocking on a bit now and I’ve probably had thousands of pies over the years. The steak pie here was the best I’ve ever had. The sticky toffee pudding was superb too. My wife loved her (slightly healthier) meal as well. Having said all that, some of the steaks being served to other guests looked amazing - maybe next time if I can resist the pie..l Had a chat with the owner - lovely bloke - deserves the success the business clearly is judging by the throngs of customers.

Lovely greeting by one of the staff. Good room, nice comfy bed and pillows. Lovely breakfast. Great value for money . Tea and coffee provided in the room and bottled water. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hairdryer..Plenty of parking

Nobody showed us to our room - I asked if it was up the stairs and was told Yes.. Maybe provide a couple of packs of biscuits in the room. Quite dark as main lighting not particularly good in the bedroom.

Lovely location, would have liked to stay longer. Staff friendly and helpful. Room very nice and bed gloriously comfortable. Looks like a pleasant beer garden too but didn't have time to sample it. Didn't get to use the restaurant either except for a tasty breakfast.

The satnav in my car telling me to come via one-track roads when there seem better options via Shalford. Grumpy locals confronting you on country roads!

Nice greeting. Taken straight to our room. Room is very nicely decorated. When we arrived the room was very cold, we went to the bar for a drink and reported it to the bar staff, when we returned to the room it was warm. While in the bar we saw the food and decided to eat here. We were not disappointed the food was excellent. Breakfast was preordered the evening before and again was very good. The service was excellent. We have booked again to go later in the year.
