--- Our Experience – Mixed Feelings We checked in on a Sunday afternoon around 3–4 pm and were warmly welcomed by a wonderful lady at reception—professional, friendly, and helpful. However, our experience quickly changed when we returned about 30 minutes later to ask some basic questions about local activities, restaurant options, and recommendations for what to do in Port Macquarie. Unfortunately, the male receptionist on duty at the time was unhelpful and noticeably unfriendly. Instead of offering advice or even a welcoming attitude, he coldly pointed us to some leaflets and left us to figure things out ourselves. As visitors passing through and new to the area, we expected some friendly guidance—especially from a well-rated hotel. I’ve stayed in many hotels around the world, and sadly, this interaction was one of the more disappointing ones. It left me wondering if there was something about me that made him feel I didn’t deserve his attention. I wasn’t looking for special treatment, just a bit of direction and local insight. That said, the female staff members we interacted with throughout our short stay were fantastic—attentive, kind, and professional. It’s just unfortunate that our first impression with the male staff was so off-putting, as it colored our overall experience. ---

Our room was on the first floor overlooking the pool and out over the rock wall. It was perfect for a travelling family. The kids thought it was great they could see the pool from the room!! The location was perfect, lots of options for food, short walks to parks, the rock wall and shops. I'd recommend packing a scooter for the kids! They LOVED the boardwalk. We loved Port Macquarie and LOVED the Rydges! Rooms were immaculate, stylish, elegant, clean and suitable for families! 10/10

Parking could be made more affordable, $30 per night is expensive, even airport parking is only $15 per night.

I stayed in the newly renovated rooms, and they exceeded my expectations. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever experienced—like sleeping on a cloud—with perfect pillows for a restful night. The room was spotless, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully designed. As a light sleeper, I truly appreciated the excellent noise insulation—I couldn’t hear my neighbours or any of the usual door slamming, which made for an incredibly peaceful stay. The housekeepers were absolutely lovely when we exchanged a few words, which left a great impression. I will definitely be coming back!

The only small downside was that parking wasn’t free, but $30 per night was OK.

Room was great, Swimming Pool and spa - very pleasant, gym basic, but nice views. However - the location was second to none. Immediate access to the beach, straight into coastal walk, which is the most picturesque experience ever, even if you are there for 1 night. Check out is at 11am, which gives you an ample time to do anything you like in the morning, prior to check out. You can also keep your car in a car park until 2pm or so. So brilliant location, walk to city centre for dinner, don't need your car. Also the Shack for breakfast with views to the water - magical.

Car park cost is $35 per night. However the fact that you can keep your car till the next arvo - makes it worthwhile and adds a peace of mind and a convenience factor.

Location was perfect! Close to shops cafes & great foreshore walks. The room was huge & very modern. Great views of the river. Great blockout curtains also. My only complaint is the lighting in the very modern bathroom was terrible. Especially for us ladies putting on make-up. I bought a magnifying mirror & sat near the window to capture the natural light. My hubby missed having a biscuit with his coffee. Not sure why some hotels have stopped supplying bickies. Coffee machine was great! Overall a fabulous place to stay.

Stayed in an apartment, loads of space for a family or small group. Amazing location and view. Restaurant food and quality excellent, staff were all helpful. Restaurant staff really friendly and great with the kids. Heated pool and spa. Two bathrooms, both very clean. Would stay again.

The apartments could use some updating as the wear is showing. The lounge had a stain, and some of the other furniture and carpet needed a refresh (eg TV cabinet had marks, lamp base rusting). The lights were strangely bright white compared to the warm lights on the lower floors. However, the apartment was kept very clean, loads of space.

The location was fantastic, right near the waterfront and town. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was very spacious, clean, and had good amenities. The heated pool was a lovely touch and had beautiful views. Overall, the stay was quite comfortable.

Parking onsite costs $30 per night, but we found free street parking right outside. The in-room kettle was too small and boiled very slowly. The bed was a little too soft for our preference but still acceptable.

Location

Unfortunately the Buffett breakfast they where understaffed, kept running out of food, cups, hot water, we had to wait around for food every time we wanted to eat or make a tea. The young girl was very rude but the older lady was very polite & so professional & very very polite & lovely. Our apartment was very old & run down. It was clean & the bed was very comfortable but all the furniture was broken & run down, the shower head was broken off the wall.

The rooms hadn’t long been refurbished which really made our stay a 10/10. You can’t beat the location and the view. Everything we needed was within walking distance. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating at all times. It’s a must to see the whales during the season, amazing experience.

An isolated incident with one staff member at the bar, however this swiftly dealt with in a professional manner.

Beautiful new renovation, love the calm colours and styling choices in the room. The bathrooms are gorgeous too and be sure to book a river-view room! Lovely, lovely housekeeping team, they deserve a mention as the rooms were immaculate and they were always a pleasure to chat with :)

A bit of noise through from the guests in the next room one night, but once they had checked out it was quiet for the rest of our stay, so probably just luck of the draw.
