The staff, bar, restaurant were all 5* surpassed expectations nothing was too much trouble, fabulous atmosphere the curries and lasagna were superb as were the breakfasts The location stunning The only negative was the accommodation which is not suitable for a less mobile person as you have to go up/down 2 very steep, narrow, staircases. (Without a hand rail) difficult carrying suitcases/bags The bedroom ceilings are only 6’ high, luckily we’re 5’7”, The bedroom, furnishing and view were all 5*. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Off road Parking was also literally just a few minutes walk away in a lovely public car park

Unfortunately the 2 steep narrow staircases without a good handrail and the very low ceiling height 6’ in the bedrooms, not suitable for the less mobile or the taller person

Really loved our stay here, full of character 200 year old pub in a quaint village. Very clean, welcoming friendly hosts and the food was so good with a great menu, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, something for everybody. Nothing was too much trouble, they really look after you well. I had one of the curries and as others have said, it was one of the best curries I've had out in a long time. Brilliant tasty fried breakfast, fresh fruit, including strawberries and grapes, yogurts, cereal, fruit juice, croissants, toast.

Being an older couple (70's) with knee and hip problems the stairs to our room were slightly challenging but loved our room and our stay here.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was extra cost on top of the accommodation but well worth the money. A good choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, croissants etc plus a good choice of freshly cooked breakfast .

The stairs were very steep up to the top floor but it is an old building so it’s just part of the heritage. It was quite difficult to turn the door key to our room as it was so close to the door frame.

If one is looking forward to staying in perhaps the last of the inns that served the 18th century Sidmouth-Honiton turnpike, then this place is a delight. The owners have kept all the original features: narrow stair treads, low ceilings, single glazing - but brought the whole place up to 21st century ideas of comfort: thick carpets, plenty of hot water, ensuite plumbing OK, wonderfully comfortable bed, very clean. Surprisingly, the noise of a bar-full of people at full chatter on a Saturday night was inaudible in the bedroom. Veggie Full English available - and more than I could eat

Late-retiring guests made a thoughtless amount of noise, even tho' the general level of soundproofing was pretty good.

The pub had a real sense of community. It has been there a long time and the building is old with a lot of character. The owners have decorated the pub and the rooms keeping a sense of the history. It was also bright and welcoming. The bedding was good quality. It was very comfy very clean and there was everything there we needed.

A lovely location and room to match too ...but a slightly longer wait for our evening meal to be served was the only downside to our visit...but would for sure would book again if in the area...only 'pick up' was having breakfast as an option and not included in the price compared to the 2 previous local locations we had stayed at on our trip to the Southwest on the same budget...

nothing...a enjoyable stop over

Staff were amazing and could not do more to assist us, they went above and beyond especially the managers who arranged a lift for my son when there was no taxis available due to a jazz festival

There was nothing I didn't like, the only issue was the location was isolated which is fine if you drive and only wanted to stay I'm your accommodation

The location was good being situated just a few miles inland from Sidmouth. Quiet village with lovely scenery and nice little circular walk to take in the views. Good, friendly atmosphere in the pub.

We missed out on the chance to have breakfast which according to the reviews in the visitor book was something not to be missed! We had booked in for dinner the previous evening so it would have been helpful when we phoned the pub in advance to book a table for dinner if we had been informed that breakfast needed to be pre-booked. It certainly didn't spoil our stay but we did feel we had missed an opportunity!

Last minute booking, the staff were really welcoming, the atmosphere was brilliant and the choice on the menu was excellent and tasted great to. Will definitely stay again.

The only downside was that the room was on the second floor, which was tough for my wife with her bad knee. But the views were worth pain.

Great atmosphere, clean comfortable room. Everything was great

Ceiling height, husband is 6:3 ceiling height 5:9. Not a great issue but could be mentioned in the booking info? Plus, why do the church bells ring out through the night, on the hour, quarter past the hour, half past the hour and quarter to the hour? Seems like an old tradition?
