Staff were so friendly and helpful, breakfast was a good selection, clean rooms, comfy bed, even though a shared bathroom the facilities were great and generous. My Dad had visited several times over the past few decades and said the improvements are incredible - a lot of hard work has gone into the place!

We were very high up and there were a lot of stairs- so do check if you have accessibility needs. Little things at breakfast could have improved - working coffee machine, cutlery and teaspoons more available, small plates as well as big and the bowls. Maybe alternative milks. Decaf options in the rooms would have also been nice. These are only minor things, though!

The hotel is almost opposite the railway station and bus station, so is very easy to find. The hotel interior has a very high level of cleanliness, is very comfortable and the staff very polite and civil. However, it is an older building and no room, restaurant or bar can be accessed without negotiating several flights of steps and stairs, so if you have any mobility issues or cannot manage stairs it may be advisable to look elsewhere. In all other respects the hotel is very good indeed.

The breakfast was very good for those who prefer the 'full-English', but for those who prefer a healthier 'continental' type breakfast, the selection was very meagre.

The hotel looks a little drab and dated on the outside but the interior is very modern with a high standard of cleanliness and pleasant staff. However, being an old building it is all 'uphill and down dale' inside with no lift or step free access to any of the rooms or restaurant, so if you have any mobility issues or cannot manage stairs it may be advisable to look elsewhere. We are active seniors in our 70's and we managed reasonably well but it's getting harder! The room we were allocated was on the 3rd floor and was very clean, nicely furnished and serviced during our stay. The bar is more for the younger generation being all modern 'chrome and neon', not meant for 'real ale' drinkers but nicely appointed nonetheless. The English breakfast was very good too. The hotel is very easy to find being almost opposite the railway and bus stations. No idea what the parking arrangements might be as we travelled by train.

No real ale in the bar. No yogurts etc. available at breakfast.

Hotel atmosphere was electric you were made very welcome when u stepped inside the hotel door staff extremely helpful stayed there about a dozen times and will definitely be booking again

I requested a lower floor when I booked with booking .com but unfortunately the George did not receive the email so we had 3 floors to climb which was very very difficult the George tried to accommodate us but unfortunately they couldn't change rooms they were really helpful

Staff were Lovely. Very nice Breakfast. Good Shower. Separate 24 hour access door for hotel guests so you don't have to go through the busy bar area when you return on a night. Location is ideal as the bus station is just over the road so we didn't have far to carry our heavy bags. The pub/bar itself is great.

Mattress was a bit too soft for me personally but wasn't too bad. Very warm in the bathroom as I couldn't find a way to turn the heater off (during a warm day/night). Music can be heard from the room until after midnight on certain nights of the week due to events in the bar such as karaoke (but you are pre-warned about this).

It's a lovely hotel, almost opposite the Whitby train station and the bus station. The hotel is very clean, usually very quiet, and has very friendly and very helpful staff. Breakfast is included, and it has events on in if you want to attend. All attractions, the beach, shops, restaurants, pubs, and other hotels are well within walking distance, with the added advantage of having the aforementioned bus and train station opposite, though there are not many trains arriving and departing at Whitby. Also, the Coop, which is just by the train station, and the whole town is littered with public houses, restaurants, and cafes well within walking distance

Not many quibbles, stairs with no customer lift.

- shower temp wouldn’t go up that high which isn’t a big deal, I just prefer a piping hot shower - room was quite small but again, my bf and me do not need a massive room so not a big deal! - a little thing but I wish they would’ve provided decaf tea bags in the room instead of just normal!

We had a lovely stay at the George Hotel, the room was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with a good choice from full English to cereals and fruit. Very close for those travelling by bus or train. The staff were very nice. We would definitely stay again.

The bed was a little squeaky when you moved, but other than that comfortable. As has been said in some of the comments the noise from the bar can travel to the lower floor rooms, it wasn’t really a big issue for us, other than one night but we had come prepared with ear plugs.

On arrival, very nice service on the reception desk. Breakfast was awesome. I liked how the staff soon jumped onto the times where some breakfast items were empty and they soon refilled them. They were very helpful and welcoming. I also liked their preparation for everyday, when I went down for breakfast, the staff were cleaning the dance floor/bar area after the previous night that were full of people. Every table and flooring area was spotless. Bar service was also quick when queuing for drinks. When me and my family went out for drinks and sightseeing, the distance back to the hotel was so close which was ideal. The staff on the bar were friendly and quick with service to ensure everyone was served promptly as queues were huge at times. The sports they show also come good (Sky and TNT) I never left the bar for any other bar. They’re lots of seating areas and huge TVs. The rooms, spacious and the beds are comfy. The showers were quality, better than mine at home!

The place is central and only a couple of minutes walk from large parking. The place was clean and comfortable and warm. The staff were so friendly and approachable. The bar stocks a good range. Everything was perfect. Only downside was breakfast. Never had any. Not due to the place but due to us being too hung over to get up so missed it. However if it was like the rest of the stay it will have been excellent. Can’t wait to book again.
