We booked this hotel mainly because it's in such a convenient location ie close to everything and me and my friend both have limited mobility so this location was ideal. The hotel had its own bar and buffet breakfast which was great for us.we booked the only room available at the time.which wasn't ideal for us being on the top floor but we knew this when booking and figured we would and did manage. The rooms are basic but have everything you need ie tea and coffee making facilities and t.v. wardrobe etc..the staff was very helpful and assisted us with luggage taking it up for us on arrival which was a big help.

Personally we didn't like sharing a bathroom but you can get ensuite which is what we would do next time but they wasn't available this time unfortunately. There is no parking at the hotel so please factor that in when booking..we parked at the marina car park which was £12.60 roughly for 24 hrs so just topped up via ring go app.

This hotel is in a great location, so convenient if you get to Whitby via public transport and want to walk down to the beach or to the Abbey relatively easily. Everything you could need is on your doorstep here, you have supermarkets, takeaway restaurants, arcades, coffee shops and bars mere minutes away. The staff were lovely and accommodating, very friendly reception on arrival, and the pub itself is great! Rooms were comfortable, if a little bit warm in August (but we did have a fan in our room!) and the included breakfast had all the expected components and was well cooked/topped up regularly. Our room was pretty spacious and beds were nice, we slept fairly well especially with the fan; we had TV, cozy lighting and a really nice bathroom - shower was very powerful! Tea and coffee was available, as well as body wash/shampoo which was lovely. All in all, we agreed we would definitely stay here again! The carvery sounded delicious as well and I'd like to give it a try next time, too busy stuffing our faces with fish and chips this time round sadly.

The only downside to staying here really is noise, because you're right by the station, above a pub - and one of the nights we went, there was karaoke downstairs and we could clearly make out the songs from our beds. We were fortunately given a 3rd floor room so it wasn't AS loud but it was still a bit disruptive and next doors bathroom habits were also hard to ignore through the wall. Small price to pay for convenience though and the noise did stop a little after midnight for most part, so can't complain! Just a heads up though for less mobile people, if in a 3rd floor room, the stairs can be a bit of a struggle to get up, as there's no lift.

Staff were so friendly and helpful, breakfast was a good selection, clean rooms, comfy bed, even though a shared bathroom the facilities were great and generous. My Dad had visited several times over the past few decades and said the improvements are incredible - a lot of hard work has gone into the place!

We were very high up and there were a lot of stairs- so do check if you have accessibility needs. Little things at breakfast could have improved - working coffee machine, cutlery and teaspoons more available, small plates as well as big and the bowls. Maybe alternative milks. Decaf options in the rooms would have also been nice. These are only minor things, though!

The hotel is almost opposite the railway station and bus station, so is very easy to find. The hotel interior has a very high level of cleanliness, is very comfortable and the staff very polite and civil. However, it is an older building and no room, restaurant or bar can be accessed without negotiating several flights of steps and stairs, so if you have any mobility issues or cannot manage stairs it may be advisable to look elsewhere. In all other respects the hotel is very good indeed.

The breakfast was very good for those who prefer the 'full-English', but for those who prefer a healthier 'continental' type breakfast, the selection was very meagre.

The hotel looks a little drab and dated on the outside but the interior is very modern with a high standard of cleanliness and pleasant staff. However, being an old building it is all 'uphill and down dale' inside with no lift or step free access to any of the rooms or restaurant, so if you have any mobility issues or cannot manage stairs it may be advisable to look elsewhere. We are active seniors in our 70's and we managed reasonably well but it's getting harder! The room we were allocated was on the 3rd floor and was very clean, nicely furnished and serviced during our stay. The bar is more for the younger generation being all modern 'chrome and neon', not meant for 'real ale' drinkers but nicely appointed nonetheless. The English breakfast was very good too. The hotel is very easy to find being almost opposite the railway and bus stations. No idea what the parking arrangements might be as we travelled by train.

No real ale in the bar. No yogurts etc. available at breakfast.

Hotel atmosphere was electric you were made very welcome when u stepped inside the hotel door staff extremely helpful stayed there about a dozen times and will definitely be booking again

I requested a lower floor when I booked with booking .com but unfortunately the George did not receive the email so we had 3 floors to climb which was very very difficult the George tried to accommodate us but unfortunately they couldn't change rooms they were really helpful

The hotel was in a good location, close to all the amenities. The staff were all very friendly and always on hand to deal with any issues.

Although we were told there could be some noise from the bar below we couldn’t really hear it, but what we didn’t expect was the noise from outside the hotel, it was very rowdy and even closing the window didn’t block out the noise of the people outside and the constant traffic until the early hours of the morning.

Great location just opposite train station. It is a lovely old building and looks like it had just been refurbished. Twin room wasn't large but very clean and comfortable.

When we arrived back from our night out at 11p.m. it was in locked up and in darkness. We used the night entrance at the rear, which wasn't a problem in itself but we needed more milk, coffee etc, for our room and there was no one to ask. Thought maybe there should have been someone on night duty!

Staff were Lovely. Very nice Breakfast. Good Shower. Separate 24 hour access door for hotel guests so you don't have to go through the busy bar area when you return on a night. Location is ideal as the bus station is just over the road so we didn't have far to carry our heavy bags. The pub/bar itself is great.

Mattress was a bit too soft for me personally but wasn't too bad. Very warm in the bathroom as I couldn't find a way to turn the heater off (during a warm day/night). Music can be heard from the room until after midnight on certain nights of the week due to events in the bar such as karaoke (but you are pre-warned about this).

- shower temp wouldn’t go up that high which isn’t a big deal, I just prefer a piping hot shower - room was quite small but again, my bf and me do not need a massive room so not a big deal! - a little thing but I wish they would’ve provided decaf tea bags in the room instead of just normal!
