Location is superb, could not be bettered. Accommodation is basic, but well enough appointed and given how expensive most Oxford accommodation is perfect for a budget break. You're paying for the location.. but isn't that really the point?

Stairs are super narrow up to the top floor, which didn't bother me but I can see it would if someone has mobility issues.

Lovely place in the heart of Oxford. You could not get a more central location to everything in Oxford. The hotel is above Broad Street, blocked off and busy with tourists (like me), with a number of tourist shops right there plus a discount at Theo's coffee shop which I duly made use of. Room is small but has everything you need for a few nights stay in Oxford. Comfy bed and warm shower, wifi was of good enough quality for everything I needed to do online. Recommended for travellers to this wonderful city.

This is not something I didn't like but just to let travellers know that there are some fairly steep stairs up to reception and rooms. No problem for me on my own but my wife would not have been able to make them, so in case your wife or friend has issues with climbing stairs just be prepared.

Wonderful location, superb staff who could not be more helpful.

It is essential that people who stay here are aware of the amount of stairs and how narrow and steep they are. Due to the stairs which I struggled with I was offered a room on the floor below which was much smaller than the room I had originally been allocated. It is very important to note that All of the staff could not have done more to assist me. They were all fabulous. Also not all of the rooms have a view of the college/ street . Despite the above I would stay here again and would ask for a room at the front of the building on the lower floor.

The room was so warm and cosy. I was down in Oxford for a funeral, so it was nice to have somewhere close to stay over for a few nights. The bed was very comfortable with clean and crisp bedding. There were plenty of pillows, too! There was ample storage and a decent mirror. I have to say, the hairdryer was the best I have ever had in a hotel! It was lovely and peaceful. The staff were kind and welcoming. They even carried my bags up to my room! I would definitely stay here again.

Not much I didn't like. The stairs are a bit steep and definitely not for people with mobility issues! Having said that, this building is hundreds of years old so visitors should expect this sort of feature! The only improvement I think should be added is a hazard sticker on the bathroom door step. I nearly tripped the first time I used the loo.

The facility was very good

It would have been useful to have explained the location of the hotel better. Arriving by car in a traffic controlled area via sat nav might cause me a problem with Oxford Council. Whilst there was a reference to the hotel not having a car park there was no help as to where a car could be safely parked whil;st transffering cases etc to the Hotel. We struggled to find a car park withing reasonable walking distance. I am over 80 and this coul;d have been a real problem with someone less mobile as myself. Suggest you flag-up vehicle restrictions and whereabouts to nearest car parks.

Location is excellent, close to the train station and the buses. Close to the the main landmarks. Room quite big, with view on the street (and Christmas Market on it). Bathroom clean and easy to maintain this way. Temperature in the shower easy to set and quickly warm. Place to put own cosmetics. Place to try towels. Beds: one was very comfortable, one a bit less. Old windows, but good heating so was warm in the room. Room was quiet and private.

I didn't know how to operate the radiator in the bathroom. It worked sort of randomly. The hotel does not offer any meal, so lack of a fridge was a bit problematic (especially if it was a summer). One of the beds was not comfortable.

So cosy! The room was incredibly spacious and surprisingly quiet. Very impressed with the water pressure in the shower, comfy mattress and coffee/tea & biscuits! I was very lucky my room was ready before expected, and I was able to check in very quickly, freshen up, and keep my appointment, only an hour after getting off the train. The location was ideal, less than 15 minutes walk from the station and right into the city centre. Lovely natural light in daytime and pleasant evening atmosphere provided by the warm lights from bedside lamps. I was worried about the street lights but the curtains were completely effective. I was in Oxford for a funeral service so not exactly leisure, and my room at the Buttery felt like a safe haven after a draining day. I hope to come back under happier circumstances and stay here again.

Maybe an extra small towel and hair dryer? If I really have to find something to write. But it didn’t bother me enough to go ask for one and I’m sure they would have been very happy to help.

The location of The Buttery was perfect. Everywhere was easy to get to and not far to walk, whether it be the colleges, museums or the castle/prison. Though the accommodation seemed expensive for what it was, as Oxford itself is quite expensive I believe it was good value compared to other hotels there. The room was serviced each day and there is 24 hour reception cover

Though it did not spoil my stay and the room was very comfortable, it did look a little tired and could do with a new coat of paint. There was no hot water the first day

The room was a great size and very clean. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful when I checked in. The bed was very comfortable and I slept very well. There was a well stocked tea tray and nice toiletries in the very clean bathroom. No breakfast served here, but they give you a 10% discount voucher for a nearby cafe that had great breakfast options. Great central location near to train station and other amenities.

The room was very hot when I arrived, but it was easy enough to adjust the dial on the electric heater and there was an electric fan in the room. My room was at the front of the property, opposite one of the colleges. There was a bit of noise late in the evening, but it didn't go on for too long.

The location of The Buttery is absolutely perfect for visiting Oxford as it is right in the centre of the historic town, with all of the key sites within a few minutes walk. The price is incredible for the location, along with the size of the rooms. The room was clean and spacious, with toiletries provided. The room had clearly been recently recarpeted and so felt clean and fresh. The view was amazing, onto one of the colleges of the University of Oxford. There are plenty of great restaurants within a couple of minutes walk, and the staff were very friendly and kind. We were allowed to check in a few hours early at no cost, and also store our bags after check out for free too. I would definitely stay here again!

Although I acknowledge that these issues arise from a heritage space being converted to a hotel, there was some noise issues. We stayed in room 105, next to the stairs to the other rooms. These stairs squeak and conversations are audible through the door which could wake lighter sleepers! There is also a radiator that clicks when it turns on for around 5 minutes which occurred throughout the night. I did not raise these with staff as it did not bother me much, but if you are an exceptionally light sleeper you may want to consider it or request a room not next to the stairs.
