A lovely quaint building ideally situated for our needs. Comfortable bed. Great place for the night we stayed with you. Staff were helpful and cheerful. Even kept the bar open late for us and other residents as we returned late from the event we had attended. All served with good nature for the late hour we arrived.
There wasn’t a lift to the second floor. Which wasn’t expected. Some constructive comments we wished to raise. There was no socket next to the bed side, the none slip dots in bath need to be extended the full length of bath as the area that is stepped on to exit the bath when wet was very slippery. This did not detract from our stay as everyone was very pleasant and cheerful. Even holding the bar open late in our return from our event .

The hotel was in a good location for exploring the town of Newbury and visiting the racecourse. The breakfast was tasty and the room very comfortable. Staff were pleasant and although a the top end of town, it was quiet.
I couldn't access the free wifi for the duration of our stay, despite multiple attempts on laptop and phone. I queried this with reception and was told there was a problem in the area. Our room was at the very far end of a corridor so unsure if it was also due to this, but it also wouldn't work in the dining area. The sink plug wouldn't stay in which was a minor grumble by my partner who likes a bowl of water to shave.

Arrived early and receptionist was helpful and allowed us to park up (need to register at desk 😉) to enable us a stress free time wondering around town . When we did get to our room in mid afternoon, Emma at front desk was very kind and helpful. She is a Credit to The Chequers Inn . We went out for a few drinks and watched the Women’s football final returned to the Chequers and purchased a meal two Chicken & Bacon pies with Mash ‘n greens plus a drink for just under £40 which we thought was great valve 😉👍
Nothing …All good 😊

Our twin room was clean with a comfortable bed and usable shower. Beds were made each day and new towels and toiletries provided also. Breakfast had all options available although Saturday morning was on the slow side (See What didn't like).
On the Saturday morning breakfast, hot option especially was not all available when we went down at around 9 o'clock. It looked like we chose a very busy time which was probably the cause. The waiter at breakfast did his best to keep things topped up but it was a bit of a losing battle for him. I was also slightly confused by the bar arrangements as they cashed up, in my opinion very early (around 9:45pm) and from then on only accepted card payments or room payments but only if a card had been set-up to that room. Once we realised this it wasn't an issue but for anyone on their first visit please be aware of this arrangement.

The location is perfect, the staff were very friendly, and the rooms were charmingly decorated. The beds were comfortable and things were very clean. The staff were kind to help us call a taxi when we needed it since we didn't have a local number just data, and they stored our bags for us since we didn't leave until an evening train. The lobby was great to sit in a bit after we had finished our day before we needed to go to the train station. Overall we loved our stay!
The room was hot, I realize that was a problem in most of England at that moment but the fan that had worked poorly and it was a bit difficult to sleep. The rooms could have used a touch of upkeep although we recognize it's an old building. Water pressure in the shower was also a bit of an issue but also may be because of the age of the building. Our biggest complaint was breakfast. We arrived downstairs an hour before breakfast was finished, it didn't seem to be terribly busy but almost everything was empty. Hardly any food left, no coffee, one slice of bread, etc. We really had to scrounge up things to eat and the staff just didn't seem very concerned with it. I'd have understood if they were slammed and couldn't keep up but that really didn't seem to be the case.

A brilliant location right at the beginning of the main street. A good looking welcoming hotel with private parking at the rear. Staff were very helful thoughout our stay. A very clean upmarket feel to the hotel with some lovely luxury seating for drinks and a great looking dinning room.We had an Anex room at the rear with parking just a few steps away from our room. A very good large room, great size bed amd bathroom. Breakfast was great, too much choice lol. Hot or cold choices with good service by all the staff.we will definitely come here again
Nothing to say, a great stay

This is an old coaching Inn. So there are no lifts/AC etc because it was built 100s of years ago. But it is well located, staff are friendly and its quiet and good value for money. There are a few vindictive 1 star scores on the site which make no sense at all and maybe tell you more about the people who wrote them than the hotel. Also lots of free parking
As above this is a historic coaching inn. Its not modern but there is a nearby Premier Inn if you want bland uniformity.

The location was fab being a 15 min walk and equidistant from the train station and my friends place. It's also situated right at the top of the high street. It's also near the canal and Victoria Park if you like walking and green spaces.
No lift! There are 300 rooms over a sprawling 2 floors with many stairs, door and corridors to traverse if you're in a higher no room (I was in room 226) and it was far from the reception and the dining area. I have mobility issues so it was difficult for me. Request lower floors if you can't walk stairs. The walls, doors, woodwork, window frames etc needed a good scrub as did the grout in the bathroom.

Enjoyed the breakfast. The check in was seamless and the staff wonderful. Great to have on site parking too. We paid £244.80 for 2 nights including breakfast for a junior suite.
It is looking dated and need of redecorating in most of the areas we viewed, this also applies to the junior suite we booked room 221. The radiator cover was damaged, the bathroom grout needs a good clean and the mirrored wardrobe sliding doors could do with a bit of maintenance as they were not the easiest to use. Not convinced the quality of the hotel demanded such a high cost for 2 nights but with a bit of maintenance it would be much better. The PAT testing was overdue, stickers gave next test date as January 2025 so a little overdue.

Hotel was in a good location with free parking. Staff were friendly and pleasant. Breakfast was good.
Too many stairs as my wife is disabled and struggles with stairs ( we knew there was no lift but wasn't expecting as many stairs ). We booked a disabled parking place which was great but steps from car park or front access we were not expecting. Our room on 2nd floor was only accessible by stairs and lots of little half landings which my wife struggled with. Booking a disabled car parking space and having to contend with so many stairs was a bit of a let down and no thought had gone in to where our room was allocated due to being disabled. The hotel advertises that it is "accessible" but I beg to differ sorry.
