The whole hotel is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous setting with the ruin of the old abbey on site. Staff were super friendly and service was quick. Breakfast was delicious ( buffet) and hot.. carvery meal was a huge portion and also delicious.. A really nice smoking patio off the bar, ( nice for smokers not to be shoved into a dark horrible area for a change). There was a wedding and a separate christening on, when we stayed, but a huge amount of staff working meant little or no wait time for the Bar or food.. overall a perfect stay, and we will definitely be back. Thank you and a shout out to Duggie who works in the kitchens but went out of his way to chat to us .. Great staff.

The only thing I would change is there was a half glass bathroom door in our room, it did have a net curtain, but I like privacy and felt that wasn't enough.. a towel on the back of the door sorted it for me but if I could change anything it would be to get rid of the door for a solid one.. Not a complaint, just an observation. Thanks

The rooms, swimming pool, and the very nice staff

Not a lot laid out for breakfast at first we did not know you could ask for other things such as pouched eggs, tomatoes mushrooms. wold have liked a bit more choice for bar meals

Parking was very easy, plenty of space. Staff were all lovely and helpful, especially the lovely lady on the reception desk on check-in. The room was a generous size, and had everything we needed. There was also a gorgeous set up of champagne and chocolates in our room for our anniversary; a lovely touch and much appreciated. Beautiful pieces of decor and pictures along the hallways. The ruins are located a stone’s throw from the hotel, and a beautiful little walk around for anyone interested.

Bathroom was a tad outdated, but a non-issue for us; it had everything we needed. A fantastic stay!

Staff are very helpful and friendly, good atmosphere, very community oriented hotel. Dinner service and quality of food (bar and restaurant)was excellent. Location is very central, rooms comfortable and clean.

There are some areas of the hotel that need updating, while keeping the classic vibe, bathroom and shower in particular need replacing (shower was very difficult to turn on). The breakfast was disappointing when you compare the high quality of the bar and restaurant. It is self service like many hotels but the eggs were very overdone and inedible, as well as the black and white pudding near burnt to a crisp.

My room was very comfortable with AC, comfy large bed, coffee pod machine and tea making equipment, wide screen tv and lots of closet and desk space. We really appreciated the two comfy armchairs to relax in after work and highly recommend a dip in the pool after work. This room was larger than one I've stayed in previously so not all room have extra large beds or AC however all rooms that I've experienced thus far are very comfortable. The food in the bar is superb, there's no need to go elsewhere. The staff are all very efficient, friendly and welcoming, highly trained and give the impression that they enjoy working here so well done everyone on that.

I had to think hard to come up with something for this - eating in the bar my partner had French fries and burger one evening and wasn't impressed, it's perhaps a meal for a younger person or teenager. The specials are always good.

The pool facilities were great! Everything was clean and the staff were super friendly. We had a buffet style breakfast - the scrambled eggs were the best. Dinner in the bar was also amazing! The wait staff were attentive and fast. The food was delicious - in particular the pizzas! Despite the cold weather outside, the hotel was always cozy and warm. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and professional, especially the receptionists who answered our endless questions and said hello to us every time we walked past Would definitely recommend!

We had a super evening meal in the bar, the food was high quality and so yummy. We are both looking forward to eating there again. Also I really enjoyed having a swim each day. We had travelled for work and being in the pool just melted away the tensions of the job. Every staff member we spoke with was really helpful, warm and friendly. I needed something printed out and the reception staff member was so helpful, I was really quite impressed.

Smokers standing too close to the entrance. A shelter might be an option to give smokers somewhere sheltered to stand instead of in the entrance way.

Nice spacious room, comfortable beds. Nice location. Quiet. Very nice staff

I didn't like that we had to ask for some extra cups and glasses and towels when they knew how many people were going to be staying. I was very disappointed to be refused into the pool on the day of checkout, as I had already checked out, but would spend the rest of the day at an event in the hotel. I had spent €550 and more at the hotel, I think that should warrant entry to the pool. I had not had an opportunity to use the pool prior to that and have been able to use pools in other hotels on day of checkout. Carvery meal was a bit pricy

From the moment we set foot in the Abbey Hotel to the moment we left, it was a beautiful, relaxed, pampered experience. As another review said, DON’T ever change the Style! Do NOT “transform” it into the usual homogeneous clinical chain hotel format. Keep its USP of old Antiques and Paintings and Swag curtains which is getting harder and harder to find these minimalist days. Our Bedroom was a big beautiful Surprise and to top it all off, all the Staff we encountered were so nice and so helpful ….. and the Food was absolutely delicious 😋

Loved absolutely Everything

The Abbey was a lovely hotel, an older building as you'd expect but that didn't take away from the size or comfort of the hotel & room. We went for the carvery when we arrived, it was ok. Tasted good but quite expensive at 18.50 for what you got. The room itself was big and spacious, good size bathroom. We had a problem with the lights when we arrived, housekeeping came up and fixed it with no issues. We sat in the bar in the evening and it was busy but there were plenty of staff to get served quickly and they were very proactive with service throughout our stay. The pool is a decent size and the changing facilities were clean and well maintained. Overall a lovely hotel, within walking distance of the town centre. Good value for money and lovely staff.

The only thing I could say could be improved is the temperature of the pool. Its quite chilly. The coffee at breakfast wasn't great but again a easy fix.
