We chose this hotel for the last night of our stay as, generally, we found the hotel standards in Sri Lanka quite poor, and wanted somewhere nice. The hotel is in a good location. It is situated in a shopping mall featuring luxury brand shops and eateries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The gym and swimming pool are nice. The bathrooms are nice and we had a good view of the sea from our room.

The bathroom lock wouldn't work and there was a small amount of mould in the shower. The room was very small (we were told we'd been upgraded, though this was not the case). The place is vastly over-priced, we didn't feel the cost of the room was justified.

All about Details and the hotel staff from the door man to the manager these people are so professional and especially our dear Mme Sayani, she was adorable. She is a great value for the company.

The pool with kids … terrible Not only adults and kid so u can enjoy your cocktail with kid noises everywhere and toys in the pool. Not acceptable for a 5 stars hotel

5 star hotel. Room bit outdated. Otherwise confortable and located on the sea. Beach not really to visit (the Port City will most probably upgrade it in the future). Great breakfast (as ShangriLa has). Good in-house restaurants but expensive. The food was nevertheless very good. Nice pool on 4th floor. Extra services (transfers, spa , etc) way overpriced (transfer to airport was 75 usd quoted by the hotel while a reputable taxi Kangaroo company with invoice and metre took me to the airport for 23 usd). Conected to a Mall with lots of shopping oportunities.

Stayed here for four nights mid July and we had a wonderful time. The hotel itself is as expected from a Shangri-la five star. The adjoining mall is great to spend some time. Location is perfect can't go for walk in evenings on the promenade. The breakfast buffet is very extensive, really a brunch. We enjoyed all the food dishes from whichever station we tried. There's a chaiwala who goes around serving chai which was awesome. The staff at the hotel are their main asset, always eager to assist with a huge smile providing excellent service and reflect the best of Sri Lankan hospitality. Can’t wait to return!

Busy lobby area some days when there is a wedding etc at the hotel

The hotel is very good. The staff are excellent and extremely attentive to their guest. I believe the level of staff engagement and superior service is due the way Shangri La treats their staff. I personally inquired about this and a few staff member confirmed the company treats their employees well. This comes through because the service is top notch at the hotel with all level of staff! We had an excellent and memorable stay at Shangri La! A special shout out to Jude and Dishan at the Central restaurant who attended to our needs and provided exceptional service along with the rest of the team at the hotel!

Property excellent but in the bathroom I suggest to install a bidet sprayer

This was the second stay at this lovely hotel. The service is excellent which is why we returned. Our thanks to our day driver, Pemasiri Dssanayake. He was knowledgeable, kind, prompt, interesting, caring and made our four days extraordinary interesting. An excellent driver. Aldo a thank you to Tharaka in the Chinese Restaurant who took excellent care of us. People always make your holiday which is the case with our return. The hotel is appointed well, close to the city, excellent upper hospitality floor and restaurants were outstanding. Nice spa and beautiful views from the Oceanside rooms. The sky views over the water are gorgeous.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I like the location near the fort area which has the ministry of crab and pettah market to visit. The hotel directly joins to a shopping mall which is nice to visit and has food court (photo shows entrance to hotel from mall - main entrance is more grand). The hotel itself was very nice with excellent service. The buffet breakfast was good with a mix of western and eastern foods. We did the buffet dinner one night which was nice with a good variety but I wouldn’t do it more than once, unless the dishes change each time - I don’t know. There was live music each night in one of the bars. Beer was approx 1500 and glass of wine 3000 in local currency.

Worth noting for anyone who likes sunbathing that due to other buildings and the way the building faces there isn’t really much direct sunlight in the pool area until after midday.

The staff, the room, the food and pool facilities were fantastic. Excellent customer service. Very clean hotel. Four fabulous.

I was told at check-in my credit card would have a certain amount of funds on hold for approx ten to 14 days. This was not the case, the funds were held by the Shangri-la for approx 4 weeks. The exact same thing happened when we stayed at the Shangri-la resort in southern Sri Lanka. Please be honest with guests about how long you will hold funds on their Credit cards for please. Highly annoying and unethical practice in my opinion. Honesty is best policy!

The hotel is right at the Galle Face beachfront and is connected to a nice shopping mall hence the location is excellent. The staff went out of their way and because we had a late flight and our flight was delayed, extended our room stay for free late evening. We had the lakeview rooms, not the biggest rooms around but definitely ample space and very comfortable. The resort style pool was also good for swimming laps. The buffet breakfast spread was one of the highlights! Will definitely stay here again the next time I am in Colombo.
