Loved tte location, pub & pond
It was hard to find staff at night or in the morning to , even to checkout. The room had a weird configuration - difficult to find how to turn the tv on (apparently a switch on the wall on the opposite side of the room). When I eventually found a phone number to call, the lady said all info was in a compendium in room (like it was my fault)… there was no compendium . Then there were no batteries in the tv remote control. This is all simple, silly stuff but adds to the experience of the stay. The venue itself great, the experience, average. Little things matter!

The Briars has a long-standing positive reputation in the Southern Highlands. As someone who was born in the area, it was a somewhat 'coming home' situation for me and the photos I posted online about being at the Briars were met with so many relatives and friends from the area recalling their positive memories. Check in was a breeze and our room was perfectly comfortable as a pit stop on a whirlwind tour. Being so close to the restaurant was an additional bonus as we had an incredible steak dinner that evening. It was lovely to be able to see out to the lake and enjoy the trees dressed in their stunning autumn hues. I would recommend a stay at the Briars for anyone wanting to make the most of their time in the area. It's a tiny stretch out of town to get there, but worth it for the peace and solitude.
The facilities are tidy and exactly what you need, but by modern standards are a bit dated.

Great location for our needs and a great location overall. The local Inn was busy, but the service was awesome, and the menu was quite extensive (both bar and food). Great feed at Briar Inn. As for the hotel, I was a bit worried by some reviews. While an older style room, it was clean and bright. Well appointed just a little dated ( ie shower over bathtub). I loved the view from the back glass french doors that opened onto lush green lawns and a duck pond.
For me, the bed was hard ... There was allegedly foxtel, but I think it had been replaced by smart TV's... BUT the internet wasn't strong enough to run the apps like netflix my only other real peeve was the language used in the booklet telling me not to vomit on the floors, etc, like I was some Neanderthal. I get that they have regular weddings and the guests might get rowdy but the rules were a bit excessive for a pair of 50+ travellers.

Amazing view from every room, great service and very kind staff mainly reception and house keeping.
Breakfast time was really busy on all days and it would help significantly if there is more than one person helping out refilling stuff. I was constantly waiting for more eggs, more bread, more fruit etc. The coffee machine had to be cleaned and refilled with water at least 4 times in the one hour we were there. On op of this, the main helper (I think her name was Nicole) was busy chatting with people rather than focussing a lot of other guests who are waiting for more stuff to be refilled.

Location was convenient to other towns, it was peaceful and quiet & the outlook from our room was lovely. The optional breakfast was reasonably priced & nice, with cooked options, eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, fruit, yoghurt, toast, fruit juice, a good coffee machine, a variety of teas & some cakes available.
Only a minor thing, the shower over bath was a bit awkward & there were signs of mould between tiles & around bathtub & inside the plugs. The balance of the room was clean & the decor recently updated & modern.

We had driven for seven hours so it was nice to arrive in such wonderful grounds and a historic property. We got there after reception closed, it was a Sunday, but it was easy to arrange a place for the key. The bistro being open until 9pm was great as we got in just after 8pm. The food at the bistro was first class. Having the doors open to the patio and the grounds made it feel much more than a motel type stay. Having a well stocked mini bar and snacks was also great. We didn’t partake in much but so often when you are travelling you land in places with an empty fridge. The other huge thing was my wife left her favourite pillow case in the room. They called to tell us and were more than happy to mail it to us. They actually went the extra mile. The staff were all super friendly, we need to find a reason to go back.

Room. It was well appointed and included things such as extension cord, tub to wash cups and plates, dish cloth and detergent, tea towel. The air conditioner worked quickly and efficiently to warm and cool the room. There were plenty of nice cushions and a comfortable sofa. . The tv swivels to watch both from the sofa and the bed. It is in a rural setting between Bowral and Moss Vale, therefore quiet with nice views.
The bed was a bit hard for me and I had to keep turning over, but it is hard to please everyone. The pillows were not good. One out of five was comfortable, the others were thin, flat and lumpy and one smelled of cigarette smoke. The breakfast was of both poor quality and value; the scrambled eggs were inedible, the one piece of bacon I had was like leather and the coffee from the machine was luke warm. Everything ran out quickly and there was a wait for the next batch, which I thought should have been anticipated. I passed on breakfast the second day and went elsewhere.

We had to leave unfortunately before breakfast. Excellent location and very quiet. Rooms very spacious and well-appointed with wonderful view over the lawn and lake. Loved watching all the ducks and ducklings waddling over to the lake. The dinner in the restaurant was fabulous - the duck and prawn dishes and the wine were all excellent, as was the ambience of both the indoor and outdoor dining settings. We loved our stay and will definitely come again and have already been recommending Briars to friends and colleagues.
Nothing, (except we had to check with Reception about how to adjust the ´Heat’ air con temperature to the cold setting. They explained there was a slide down panel on the remote with this and other functions -perhaps this slide down panel could have been referred to in Info Booklet as there was no way of knowing this, except to the initiated

Beautiful surroundings. Proximity to the Inn
The powerpoints behind the bed are very hard to access and are too close to the floor. This is a problem for CPap users who require their machines at night for breathing purposes. The reception desk did not even have an extension cord that would have enabled its use. I had to make a dash to Bunnings just on closing time. I will now carry an extension cord with me ( have never needed it before when travelling) but I thought Briars should be aware of this concern.

The bedroom-sitting room was very comfortable and had a delightful outlook. The bathroom was spacious and sparkling clean.
There was a bottle of wine and some snacks in a welcome basket left for us. BUT they were not complimentary. If they had been a prezy for us (another $20 could be added to the cost of the room bill, not as a separate item, and a packet of chips put in the basket) we would have enjoyed drinking the wine and eating the snack and been predisposed to buying some more snacks or wine!
