The studio apartment was clean. It was stocked with complimentary cereal, jam, butter, small packs of milk (for tea/coffee). It was on the way to Kaikoura & thus a convenient stop from Christchurch. There was a party downstairs but you can’t hear from the room.

There are no lifts. Also the WiFi was intermittent. Since the hotel was along the main road, you can hear the cars passing by. The black out curtains are not totally black out. But if you need to rise early, it will help you wake up.

Bed and pillows were very comfortable and the room was spacious. I chose the Queen room which was a good size and had its own bathroom. I was impressed by the hair dryer as it was good quality .. not cheap and nasty like some hotels provide. A bottle of fresh milk in the fridge. . Would stay again if in this region The meals at the pub were fabulous. There are not many cafe/restaurants to choose from in this country town so the pub provides good meals and well patronized by the locals.

There was nothing not to like

The hotel has been refurbished inside and the rooms and bathrooms are all new. The only problem is the doors are all fire doors so are heavy to open and the locks are a bit stiff to operate. There is a dining room where I ate diner and the food was good. There is a facilities kitchen upstairs with supplies so you can make your own breakfast at no extra cost.

The locks on the doors were stiff for me to operate.

Nice big room facilities were ok be aware on the main strip so slightly noisy. Amberley is fine for a stopover go to DOTI just across the road amazing food and really nice staff. Brewing company was closed for renovations which was a shame as it looks fab.

Staff were a little inattentive no real reception

What a gem of a place. I only found it because a bunch of other hotels were fully booked on the night I wanted. So I looked past the gawdy-coloured exterior and made a booking. But what a thrill to see a fully renovated interior (even the electrics had fancy new switches). The shared bathroom was huge and immaculate. The bed was comfy. I'd consider going back to Amberley just to stay at this place.

There's no formal reception desk. A patron who was in the hallway directed me towards the restaurant for check-in and the staff member who checked me in was super sweet. The owners may want to consider some signage to direct people who are standing in the lobby with their suitcases. The office door that says "staff only" doesn't really invite guests to knock on it.

Excellent location, very good dinner in the restaurant downstairs. Overall very good, recently refurbished, double glazing all done very well.

The ensuite room was good but pretty small. I did not realize there was a guest kitchen, we had no tea/coffee making facilities in room.

We enjoyed a nice dinner and found the room very comfortable. The staff were great and took special care to have us park our motorcycles safely in the Hotel's parking lot. We would stay here again.

The only downside for me was the stairs after a long day on the motorcycle. There was nothing else that I can say that wasn't enjoyable.

The rooms were modern and clean and there were more amenities than we thought there would be. Staff were extremely caring and went above and beyond for us.

The cafe wasn't open on the monday to eat. A shame because it serves such great food!

When we arrived they did not have us booked in. Luckily they had a room available. Later on they found that our booking was made on 28th sept rather than 18th. Not sure whether you or the hotel made the error. Could have resulted in a bad outcome for us!

Nicely refurbished older hotel has turned it into a very good up to date hotel with quality rooms, a very good restaurant and garden bar. Parking area out back is well lit with security cameras. Meals are excellent quality, range and size. Staff go out of their way to help with friendly service.

No lift, knees are not good so a bit slower handling stairs to room.
