This is a lovely, cool, period hotel with marble staircase, a piano in the lobby and historical and theatrical frames throughout. Philippe at the reception couldn't do enough for us - he was everything you want in the front-of-the-house team. Reception also had free drinks (with ice machine - much appreciated when it's 38°c!) and a little library (in French). I enjoyed a BD on the history of Avignon whilst sipping a local lemon sirop. Breakfast was a buffet - à volonté - with something for everyone and more than enough to last the day. The location was excellent - 2 minutes from the main high streetand Old Town. Plus we had a parking space for our stay inside the hotel grounds so no nasty parking fees. Do check on the day though as places are limited - the nearer to check-out time (11.30am) you arrive, the better. Our room (the family room) had a balcony too and was next to a first floor rooftop garden which looked across to a medieval religious building.

One light wasn't working and we had difficulty with the flush - a maintenace issue - but it didn't spoil our stay.

The hotel d’Angleterre is just outside the centre in a quiet residential area, with a 15 minute walk to the busier areas. The room we had on the ground floor was large with separate toilet and bathroom with shower/bath. There was a safe in the room. Breakfast was good and there was tea and coffee available in a comfortable lounge area.

It is a bit far out of the main town unless you want to walk. The decor is a bit dated in places, and the breakfast room is inside. However, it is a tourist hotel.

We asked for hotel water in the room as there is no water heater and they brought us a beautiful tray with tea kettles and cups and spoons.

There is a big terrace out back, a small table in front and ample dining room inside, however when we asked if we could eat food from the grocery store on the terrace they said it wasn’t allowed to have outside food. Yet, the hotel book says the terrace is open to use 7am-11pm but apparently only if you buy food from them. So we are in our room which seems like a waste of a terrace and unfair to force guests to eat their minimal dining options for dinner. Not clear if you can snack on the terrace outside dining hours but they said “no outside food”.

The location was very good for visiting the main attractions. My wife is a vegan and when we told the staff at breakfast they went and purchased some soya milk for her. There was free tea, coffee and water available at all times in the reception area.

The en suite facilities were slightly awkward as the loo and bathroom were separate and there was no wash basin in the loo making it necessary to go from the toilet to the bathroom in order to wash hands. Okay during the day but not so good at night. Other rooms may be different.

The location was just perfect, not too close to the main noisy street , but just five minutes walk. The room was comfortable, not too small with a big bathroom. The staff was very helpful at the moment when I found out that our train was cancelled: they gave right advice, helped to find another accommodation as this hotel was fully booked. The breakfast was very good with big choice, and high quality of the food.

It is quite close of the Avignon Centre station, the gare routiere and the city centre, so the location is really good. The room was simple, but comfortable .

The plumbing is probably old and it is an old building, so a weird smell comes out of the bathroom. I also thought it was weird to have the toilet separate from the shower, but it was manageable. At last, I had a problem of having my wallet stolen with all my cards and id at a train station, and the staff did not offer much help in that sense.

The staff was so pleasant and accommodating! The room was basic but very clean, which is the most important thing! The breakfast was so worth the 12 euro. It was a beautiful spread and more than ample! I can't say enough good things about this little hotel. If you are taking a river cruise, this hotel is highly recommended. You could actually walk to the Port, but if you'd rather not walk with your luggage, a taxi is 10 euro..

There was nothing I didn't like!

Hotel d'Angleterre has unusually friendly, welcoming staff. Breakfasts are excellent, with a wide choice of food and drink available and a good atmopshere. There is a useful free coffee machine and a well chosen small library. Boulevard Raspail is a pleasant, fairly quiet street with fine plane-trees, within easy walking distance of central Avignon.

Comfortable room with very good bathroom. Coffee and cold water always available in the reception area. Helpful staff on reception. Just a few minutes walk to the centre of the city and the river. A good buffet breakfast with ample choice. You can leave luggage in a locked room in reception if you arrive early or leave late and want to explore the city without lugging bags around.

The hotel was in an excellent location. The staff were very kind and considerate to us. The weather was extremely hot and I think the staff were concerned for us. The room with the constant air conditioning was just want we wanted.
