The hotel is in the historical centre of Matera (but not in the Sassi, so it can be easily reached by anyone). Cleanliness was impeccable, with daily change of towels. I traveled for work, so having wifi access was a necessity; in the room I was originally assigned, wifi signal was essentially null (old building, heavy walls). However, the personnel acted immediately, trying to restore the service and when it did not work, they were able to move me to a better room, thanks to a last minute cancellation. I appreciated this very much

Breakfast was OK; I would have liked a larger choice of salty things, but the sweets were abundant and good. Maybe water could be provided at a cooler temperature. No major problems, though

The hotel is perfectly located by the main square so easy distance to the FAL train station and accessible by taxis ;don’t miss the visit to the Crypt of the Original Sin). My room was huge with 2 balconies, which I couldn’t use due to the weather. The breakfast is good with many options. Overall a great stay.

The replenished of food at breakfast could be sometimes slow when it gets full. The room was huge but the bathroom wasn’t at all functional so to get in and out of the bath tub was tricky as there was only a tiny space between the toilet and the sink.

If you are older or less mobile I would reconsider this hotel. It atop the hill so you will do many outdoor stairs to walk around Matera, and stairs or small elevator inside hotel. Taxi cannot pull up directly to front door so expect to carry luggage upstairs to street area (not too far).

Pros: Above all, the staff (Paolo, Antonio, Fania) were all lovely and made me feel at home. Paolo, who speaks fluent English, was a superstar and helped me with everything, from train reservations to local recommendations. My room was spotlessly clean, and comfortable to work in. The hotel cannot be more conveniently located - right in the centre of town, just a few minutes walk down to the Sassi area. Lovely breakfast room with freshly-baked pastries every morning.

Cons: Nothing at all. Would love to come back for a holiday.

Very good overall

It was more expensive than other places we've been to (with similar level of comfort) in Southern Italy, but I guess Matera is expensive (and we had a nice view from our window). Breakfast could be more diversified for this price. The staff was OK, but not specially welcoming as they were in other places we've been to. You can't make the room entirely dark so we were waken up by sunrise.

The location is idyllic, worthy of its epic milieu and returning to the hotel will not disturb the awe ingrained in your experience of Matera. The hotel interior seemed new or at least very well-attended. I had a special coffee-related request early in the morning, and the gentleman at the reception was extraordinarily considerate in providing the extra service. It was an act of kindness - an espresso, that made my day. I would happily return!

Excellent location for visiting the Sassi. In the centre of the old town but still accessible for taxi drop off and also close to the station. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room. The decor was a very Italian mix of traditional and modern.

Located just on the edge of SASSI, a short walk from the public parking (which for a hotel in the SASSI is a great advantage!). A good starting point for the tour. Reception staff very polite and cooperative in advising the points of interest and restaurants nearby. it looks that the hotel consists of two parts, a very well maintained old world style part, and a modern part. We got a room in the old part, facing the small walking street outside the hotel. The room was very clean, big, with lots of old, well maintained wooden furnitures, comfortable bed, air conditioning works well. bathroom is small but clean and functional. Good atmosphere overall. breakfast was good, coffee acceptable.

A little but acceptable noise from the street below. wired noises from hotel pipelines throughout the night. bed was squeaking a little and should be modernized, but since we came for one night I didn’t complain. Refrigerator/minibar in the room consists of 2 small mineral water bottles costing 2 Euros each… for a hotel charging 180 Euros per night this is a very cheap approach… I was offered free water bottles in much less costlier hotels all over Italy.

Beautiful spacious room with wonderful balcony and great view. Location of hotel was perfect. On the edge of both the old and new cities. Shopping and restaurants very near. Staff was exceptionally helpful.

This was a last minute getaway. We were very happy to have the high quality room at this price. It was a great value. This was one of the few place where we could say the air conditioning worked really, really well. The room was a little small, but there was also a small but there was also a small bonus room that helped. Great location and good breakfast options.
