Close to the South Downs Way. Very friendly staff that made me feel very welcome and valued from the moment I stepped foot into the property. Probably the most best-run and friendly pub I’ve visited for a long time. Also very dog-friendly. The food was amazing. I had lunch and dinner there and the roast was so good. So much so I could only fit a small salad in for dinner! Also very quiet with the room I was staying in a separate block to the pub itself so no noise from the pub. The room was so well equipped with all conveniences and creature comforts. If walking the South Downs Way, I recommend stopping off at South Harting just to experience the atmosphere and sample the food. Book a table ahead of visiting!

We received a warm welcome from the staff, especially when they saw the dogs. It's such a dog friendly place. The food was great in the evening and the breakfast was exceptional. Our rooms were clean and tastefully decorated with lots of space for the dogs. The dogs were given their own treats too which was a nice touch. The boiler was being fixed at the time so there was no heat, but the open fires in the pub part helped and we had supplementary heating in the room which was much needed - it was a cold day. Even with that, we had a great stay.

The pub is located at the heart of the village, surrounded by beautiful countryside with lots of walks. The building is ancient and charming, with a lovely garden overlooking the fields and the hills. The room was very spacious, with nice windows and wooden floors; the bed was super comfortable. We had dinner in the garden, and the menu had several locally sourced products, including wood pigeon and lamb; everything was delicious.

Breakfast was OK, perhaps not in line with the great dinner we had the evening before.

Very nice atmosphere, not as noisy as often found in pubs. Excellent cooking starting with a very good breakfast buffet plus à la carte and ending with a surprising quality for dinner. Very friendly staff at all times. The rooms are cozy and well kept. All items were clean and well served. There is a large beer garden in the back, however, we had no opportunity to enjoy it. The White Hart is an excellent choice if you visit a Goodwood Event, about 15 min of driving. We'll go back for sure.

The wine list was good for a pub, however, some wines we wanted to order were not available. This may be a temporary issue.

The staff was one of the nicest my partner and I have ever experienced in a hotel. Thank you for such a lovely stay! The atmosphere of the room and the pub was so homely and cosy, the fireplace, the lovely drinks and gorgeous food made it a perfect stay. There is also a delicious homemade breakfast included in the price of the room, as well as mini pastries and a choice of cereals and juices + yogurts, The room was cosy and so clean with nice biscuits, teas and coffees, we were very spoiled !

What appeared to be a shed turned out to be quirky accommodation. Good size room with en-suite. Plenty of storage space, a light on both sides of the bed for reading, windows that opened wide. Nice towels, and toiletries. 2 chairs so neither of us had to sit on the bed. We didn't have breakfast, but the evening meal was very good. It is a quiet situation, and has a nice beer garden

Generally it was clean - spotless sheets and towels - but the chrome in the bathroom wasn't. And there was black mould on the edges of the window frames. One of the windows needed work on the catches

The White Hart is a lovely pub full of character in the small village of South Harting. I was walking the South Downs Way, South Harting is approximately ½ mile off the route. Before crossing the busy B2146 to continue the walk, take the public footpath on your left which runs parallel to the road, the pathway starts by going downhill then levels out to the South Gardens and a playground, you then walk on the B2146 below the church for approximately 150 yards before reaching the White Hart on your left, the Harting stores and post office are a little further on. Most of the rooms are located in a separate building across the courtyard to the right behind the pub. I stayed in Room 4 which was quite small but suitable for me. The bed was comfortable, tea, coffee, biscuits and water are provided and I loved the Bramley toiletries, the shower was large with good pressure. Dinner was very good and the staff were excellent. The pub also caters very well for dogs with treats such as Bark Burgers and Bark Bangers!

Paintwork was tired in a few areas, there were some scuffs on the tiles lower down in the shower and a couple of marks on the furniture which just need attention. The service for breakfast was slow, I was advised there was new chef, at the time of ordering there were only 3 people in the restaurant so it wasn’t busy!

We stayed here for one night as a base for walking/visiting local pubs etc. The hotel bar/restaurant area was great, and had a lovely big beer garden also. Decent range of beers available. My wife is coeliac/gluten free and there was a good range of options for her on the menu. Last orders for food were 9pm which was appreciated as we were late back from our walk. Despite other reviews I've seen elsewhere, our room was plenty big enough for two (it might get a bit small if you were spending a week there, but for a night or two was perfectly fine). The shower was excellent (aside from the point below) with good water pressure, and nice products on offer. Nice to have a Nespresso machine in the room, as well as the usual kettle/teabags etc. The bedroom was clean. Staff were lovely, very friendly and jovial whenever we interacted with them.

The bathroom could've done with some attention. There was a fair bit of mould in the shower (a small point, but it's fairly straightforward to get rid of this kind of thing so worth a few minutes of someone's time), and carpet in the bathroom is probably not the best idea as there were some toothpaste stains near the sink.

The staff were so friendly and helped with our every request . Parking was great , room was really lovely and had really lovely food in the restaurant! They even offered us a quick breakfast ( earlier than advertised ) as we were leaving early each day to go to an event .. we didn’t take it up but thought this was a lovely touch ! Also amazing hot chocolate … thank you !

Not enough rooms and fully booked for when we wanted to come again ! Apart from that nothing ! It really was excellent value for money !

Our room was very cosy and had bags of character with welcome features such as USB charging ports on both sides of the bed to facilitate phone charging and modern, bendable reading lights in addtion to the bedside lights . Free bottled water was also provided. The walk in shower had great flow from its fountain head, was easy to operate and had bags of hot water. Netflix was available on the TV; an unexpected bonus. The supper menu was extensive and sensibly priced and the breakfast was outstanding with a great buffet, friendly table service for hot meals and extended 7-11am availability. I had ready access to gluten free bread for both supper and breakfast toast. Parking was secure and off road at the rear, the only minor downside was that access to the spaces was a little tight. Overall very impressive, in a super village location. Great value for money . Will definitely return .
