We stayed at "Casa Isabel", a small, newly renovated building with three rooms at the top of the property. Our room was very spacious, absolutely quiet, and afforded a magnificent view across the vineyard out onto the Atlantic Ocean. Right next door is the hotel-owned restaurant 'Bago' which serves excellent food (albeit a bit on the expensive side compared to other local restaurants). We had breakfast at the main building, a short walk down-hill in the morning. Weather-permitting outside, or together with other guests at one long table in the old kitchen. The staff is very friendly, service excellent. In our eyes the place is a hidden gem, we would definitely come again.

At times, mosquitos made quite an annoying appearence in our room during night time [maybe they found us particularly attractive :-)) ]. We noticed that there are flyscreens installed in the windows of the rooms in the main building, but it seems that flyscreens can't be attached to the modern windows in Casa Isabel. So, if you plan to stay in Casa Isabel make sure to bring along some insect repellent.

We enthusiastically invite you to stay at Quintas das Vinhas for your visit to Madeira. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They were able to accommodate special requests and followed up to ensure our needs were met. The room was a perfect balance of modern amenities within a rustic setting. Very quiet and private with a pleasant ocean view. Clever details everywhere, with wonderful scented soaps. The pool and lounge area was a welcome oasis after long hikes and sightseeing. The property was charmingly rustic, surrounded with well-maintained landscaping and vineyards. The morning breakfast was excellent with a diverse assortment of fruits, fresh bread, homemade jams, and warm platters as well. We ate outside in a small courtyard with tables and seat cushions, overlooking a town below and the oceans. The onsite restaurant Bago was wonderful and we returned to eat for second night as well. Highly recommended. This was definitely our favourite hotel on our trip and would not hesitate to stay here again.

beautiful Manor House and lovely self catering apartment. all new. all spotless

The information given. The property has two entrances, both difficult to find. information prior to arrival would really help. once we (eventually) found reception, we were shown on a map where the cottage was but it was confusing and no sign posts. It would have been easy for reception to put up clear signage, give us a written map or ask a staff member to meet us in the far car park and show us the cottage. No written instructions in the cottage. So easy to do and would have made so much difference

It is a beautiful, historic, working vineyard which provides visitors a unique experience to drink (very) local wine. Our dinner & breakfasts were delicious - staff clearly talented. Very tranquil setting & place to stay.

This is not a "didn't like" - just informing others. Bolt or taxi is needed to get to the trails (and probably the beach). We used Bolt. The wait time for pick-ups were short. Our drivers Ronaldo & Carlos were excellent.

Amazing hotel, from check in to check out. Beautiful cottage, with all the amenities that you could need. A beautiful location overall, with lovely views on the vineyard and the sea. Two pools, one bigger one which is perfect. Very good restaurant, and would really recommend the fantastic wine tour. All you need for you Madeira stay, also a convenient base to explore the island.

Nothing.

Beautiful, peaceful, calm & restorative spot perched high above Calheta. Full of rustic charm. Outstanding sea & sunset views. Loved that there were additional wellness activities, eg. yoga & massages, available. Fabulous restaurant - evenings only. Staff are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. They have clearly taken onboard feedback from earlier guests and made suggested improvements. Eg. the pool was clean; our room was freshly decorated and in good order; breakfast had slightly different choices each day & was good quality. There were a couple of lounges where we read in the evening. Some lovely “coffee table” books provided. Nice to have areas outside your room for a change of scenery. Also several outside seating areas. Packed lunches are available if you ask in advance.

I wouldn’t say there was anything I didn’t like. For me, the fact that it was isolated was great. However, there’s no bar and facilities outside the hotel are limited. Slightly sad that they don’t serve their own wine in the restaurant. Beware that the property is on a steep slope and the ground is uneven. Stout shoes needed.

Good, but not cheap at all. Cottages in the middle of vines on a steep hill with the ocean view. Good restaurant.

We were missing a coffee machine that we had had in every other hotel in Madeira. Our coffee&tea jar was stuffed with the bags of instant decaf - obviously because no one drinks it - with just 1 bag of tea (even that fruit tea). Ironically, utensils (and remember, it is Quinta das Vinhas) didn't include a cork screw....

I like the natural surroundings and the Calheta Valley. It was a genuine location with history and charm. The vibe, view and room were nice.

I'm not a fan of white light inside the room. The light bulbs could most definitely be changed to yellow, warmer light. Also, as is typical of Portugal, the ventilation system inside the house could be improved, especially with the fireplace.

Quinta das Vinhas is honestly amazing!! My only regret was not booking another night. The pool areas are magnificent and strolling through the vineyard was magic. The breakfast was the best I had during my stay in Madeira. I note that you really do need a car to get here and be a reasonably confident driver to access their offstreet parking. Overall, this is a really beautiful spot, perfect for couples or groups. We had a great stay. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

The on-site restaurant was quite expensive (when compared to many of the other amazing restaurants, I visited in Madeira) but the food was good and the view was amazing, the biodynamic wine from the vineyard was nice but not great for the price.

Everything :) this place was a pleasant surprise. A picturesque location with a comfortable and modern feeling, offering all the needed facilities: pools, spa, yoga retreat, wine tasting. It gave us the most accurate feeling of a vineyard on an island, on one side you could admire the large vineyard and on the other side you could see the ocean. The place is very clean, the breakfast was delicious and we had the best rest in this place.
