Everything- this Hotel is situated in the old town part of Chiang Mai, found easy access to taxis and Tul tuk, lots to do and see within the area, walking around ,Temples everywhere, also great coffee shops and cafes. Hotel is small only 30+ rooms with very friendly staff who are genuinely pleasant and attentive. I don’t think I have Ever stayed anywhere as clean ! The staff are constantly cleaning communal areas and so the place is spotless. Great aircon, except in lift and corridor. Breakfast was a good range of Thai and European foods, like toast and cereal, coffee,tea ,juice etc. Always fresh fruit and some yummy Thai foods to try. I love eating curries for breakfast, I know that doesn’t appeal to everyone but if you expect everything to be as in your home country- why bother to travel ! I thought breakfast was great with the basic staples every morning but a variety of warm dishes too. Staff were really helpful in explaining what unfamiliar foods were. Room and decor throughout the hotel was clean and Minimalist , beds very comfortable and showers were amazing. Fridge in room and endless supply of cool bottle water and coffees always available from help yourself machine in downstairs area. A small but beautiful pool area, however more than adequate for a cool off. Can get laundry done and returned to you the same day for a reasonable fee. I would return to Por Arak in a heartbeat if returning to Chiang Mai.

Can’t think of anything bad at all !! Seriously!

The hotel was very clean. Staff came through multiple times per day to make sure all common areas were mopped, the glass was wiped, etc. Upon entry into the room itself, everything was nicely arranged and it was clear that it had been cleaned (many other hotels have hair from previous guests on the floor, but not here, they are thorough). The breakfast was pretty good. There was a nice range of options each morning that could meet a wide variety of dietary needs. I particularly liked that they had a lot of local dishes as well, so we could try more Thai food. I was really pleased with the staff in general. The front desk staff were always very kind and helpful. They always greet you when you enter the hotel and are willing to chat with you if you would like to chat. They also have many recommendations for places to go eat, visit, or get a massage. You can tell that they are very guest-focused. We forgot a camera charger and battery in our room after checkout. The receptionist who was working on 5/29/2025 (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name, but all staff were friendly in general) contacted me within 30 minutes of check out to let me know that my battery and charger were still there (a replacement would have cost about $40-50 USD). When she heard that I was already at the airport she sent a grab taxi to deliver the battery to me. I was more than willing to return to the hotel directly to retrieve it, but she had it sent to me instead. Not only was it sent to me, the taxi was paid for by the hotel. I was willing to pay for the trouble, but they gave me this service free of charge. I already enjoyed my experience at Por Arak quite a bit, but given how far they went to help me, I will definitely be returning and recommending this location to friends and family in future trips. I had an extremely positive experience, there isn't anything in particular that I would change. If anything, perhaps the complimentary fruit can be re-filled a bit more often throughout the day. Even then, there is usually fruit available until evening anyways.

Chic hotel with everything you can wish for! The staff was amazing, friendly and helpful! The hotel on the smaller side, which was nice and cosy! And the breakfast was delicious! New and clean! We spent three nights there and would highly recommend it! 🤗

The only “negative”, although it didn’t bother us, was that you had to walk a little to get to the restaurants and “action”!

First, the Staff. It’s almost become a cliché. We all read how lovely the Thai people are. We read it all the time. POR Arak has these people in abundance. Every single one of them are so friendly, approachable and helpful and this makes your stay so much more enjoyable, relaxing and rewarding. Our room (208) was spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linens absolutely pristine. There is a small balcony which sadly doesn’t quite afford a table & chairs. It’s just nice to have the door open to allow a breeze. There is a screen door to prevent insects entering. There is an enormous SMART TV right in front of you. The aircon is so quiet you won’t always be sure it’s switched on. The fridge has cold water for you at all times. There are lots of little extras included like toothbrush and toothpaste, cotton buds, slippers and robes. The shower was very powerful and supplied hot water perfectly every time. The hotel breakfast and lounge area provides cold filtered water, a variety of hot coffee and hot chocolate (from two excellent machines) and fruit and assorted Thai goodies all day every day. There are even home made jams and other savouries. Breakfast 07:00-10:00 is terrific with lots of Thai and western options. You can eat inside or out or even around the pool. The pool is quite compact and a little chilly but you can swim; it’s invigorating and would be perfect in hot sun. If you don’t want to do it, they will arrange a moped rental (including crash helmets) so for us it was 350 baht per day; deposit is 3000 baht or your passport (be aware the police are sometimes parked on the 1004 main road that leads up into the hills and temples and national parks and waterfalls and they will stop tourists to check if you have an international drivers licence) without that licence you may be fined 500 baht.

The friendliness of all the reception staff, they all spoke excellent English, The rooms were a decent size, The bed was super comfortable, The water pressure in the shower. The choice at breakfast was wide and varied. The reception staff also arranged motorbike hire and the motorbike was delivered to the hotel within 30 minutes it was also picked up promptly. Thapae Gate is a 15-20 minute walk through the old city passing wat prah sing and wat chediluang to name a few. I would definitely stay here again if I was visiting chiang mai again.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay at Por Arak! The property is located in the old town within easy walking distance of everything there. The dining and pool area is really nice. The rooms are well appointed, large, comfy, and clean. The staff were incredibly lovely, welcoming and helpful. The room was Breakfast was plentiful and delicious! And it was a really nice touch having fresh fruit, cold water, tea/coffee/hot choc & biscuits always available in the common area. We would highly recommend.

Centrally located in the old town Clean and tidy Kind and polite staff

The main issue at this hotel all though not a biggy the TV in the rooms are massive but totally un usable unless you want to open an account or share your Netflix or YouTube account details on a foreign provider. I fully agree that you don't go on holidays to watch TV but after a 12k mountain hike followed by a few afternoon drinks and a swim it's nice to relax and watch something on TV while laying in bed, even local TV was unavailable.

I really enjoyed the hotel’s concept—simple yet equipped with all the essentials for a very comfortable stay. While the breakfast selection wasn’t extensive, everything was very good. The 24-hour availability of water, fresh fruit, coffee and cookies was a thoughtful touch; such a small gesture, yet it made a surprisingly pleasant difference.

The room doors didn’t provide the best sound insulation, and the windows were similarly inadequate. However, the guests were respectful and kept noise to a minimum, and the hotel is situated on a quiet street, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere.

Staff were so lovely, fruit, coffee and snacks on tap, location was great. Definitely better to be out of the tourist areas, but not far to walk to the local night markets and tuk tuk and grab are cheap to get anywhere you want! Bed was so comfy and rooms quiet - couldn’t hear anyone else!

Nothing really. If I’m being picky, you might want a few more sun loungers in peak season but we were always able to get the two available. Balconies were small, but again plenty of outdoor communal space to use.

The breakfast and coffee/tea, snack and cut fruits through whole day. We can come to the lobby to unwind ourselves and have a cup of coffee or tea or cut fruits at anytime of the day. Staff are extremely pleasant, warm and helpful. They greet us at all time and chat with us. Room is very clean and internet is strong. The breakfast has very good spread. They even allowed us to checked in early as there was an available room. Free bicycle to cycle around the city. Room rate is reasonable and location in old city which is quite convenient for us and near airport (5 km away).

The single bed is light and moves easily. Breakfast though good spread can be better if offers different menu on different days. We stayed 4 days and had the same breakfast daily. Perhaps more programmes on TV as we couldnt go out in the afternoon due to the intense heat.
