Friendly, helpful staff, great food with plenty of gluten free options, historic old inn on Berkhamsted High Street, characterful room with oak beams etc. Excellent location for shops, bars, restaurants etc and beautiful Chiltern scenery and walks in the area.

Shame there's no parking on-site but can't be helped due to busy high street location etc. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs etc within easy walking distance as well as local walks so not essential to have a car while staying at The King's Arms. There is a station at Berkhamsted too. More fruit and some yogurt would be welcome as part of the breakfast menu.

The staff; the service; the food; the room. Coming from a County (Cumbria) that is usually a tourist destination, it's nice to experience joined up public transport, such as modern nicely fitted trains that usually keep to time and are frequent. Against the old refurnished '125's' I'm usually using, if indeed, it's not cancelled but that's Northern for you. It could be worse I might have been living in America and experiencing their public transport!!!

Nothing Berkhamsted is a very nice area with excellent facilities and nice reasonable places to eat.

Location on the high street, historic coaching inn, clean rooms, nice linens, towels etc., excellent breakfast, friendly staff.

Tired decor, carpets, route to room through a well worn cleaning storage area and a worn staircase. The main hotel/bar was great but very well used and in need of an update - e.g. sat on a ripped bench seat at breakfast with the foam poking through. Expensive compared to better hotels/inns in similar market towns.Sad as we wanted to love it for future trips.

Another room I stayed in upstairs had a hugely bright light shining across the room something health and safety related, wouldn’t go back to that room but the room I had this time (in the annexe) was much better in that regard

Room booked was described as budget however a good size. Air con provided as it was very warm when we stayed. All clean and tidy and staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast are really good. The quality of the food and presentation and cooked well. Good location as central and parking near paid car parks are near.

Struggled to get into the room as had to fiddle with the lock. Bathroom tiled and looked good. The sink was cracked which is probably due to the large glass drinking glasses which if people have dropped have damaged the sink, so it would be better with plastic ones to prevent this.

there is a fish smell in the stair well and corridors and whilst i appreciate that the rooms are close to the kitchen, its quite unpleasant and they need something to neutralise this. bathroom whilst large could do with updating as the sink didn't have space for toiletries and you need to be a contortionist to reach the toilet paper

Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of options. The room was a good size and with a comfortable bed too.

The housekeeping unfortunately missed our room which was a little disappointing, however, the staff member was very apologetic and gave a reduction on our stay, so "thumbs up” for that.

The hotel is on the main high street in Berkhamsted and so convenient. The staff were very nice and the bed was comfortable and the bathroom a really good size. Breakfast was excellent, really good choice and the food was great.

Stayed in rooms 5 and 6, my parents in one of them. There were no headboards and in my parents room the green painted wall at the pillow end of the bed was dark stained from all the heads that had leaned on it - not a good look at all! Both rooms were way too hot to sleep well in. There were fans in the room but they did nothing to cool it. It was June and the temparature was just low 20's. I think the rooms are above the pizza kitchen - it was uncomfortable. There is parking at a cost about 5-10 minute walk away, which isn't ideal, but that's the town.

Superb breakfast, lovely choice and well able to cope with our gluten intolerance. The bacon deserves a special mention! Evening meal was super, pollo piccante. Substantial helpings. Really friendly and helpful staff - organised a taxi for us very promptly. Large room, it was very helpful to have a fully accessible shower. large and comfortable bed. Lots of space and in the very hot weather the room was airy and comfortable.

Decor in bedroom is perhaps a little tired, paint work looks a little worn. Perhaps we could have had a few more coat hangers. The number of Booking.com emails before, during and after our stay was OTT and became a little irritating.
