From the first welcome to the last good bye from staff I was very satisfied! The food was great - especially breakfast. I particularly liked the unobtrusive way in which the breakfast room was closed at 9.30, but those of us who were still eating did not feel as though we had to hurry up and finish our meal - very professional. The grounds surrounding the hotel are stunning and I was blessed with a fantastic view from my room - BEAUTIFUL. As a solo female traveller I felt totally safe and thoroughly enjoyed my walk along the country trail. The leisure facilities were good, adequate to one's needs. Overall this was a very enjoyable stay.

I don't mind driving, but I did find the country lanes leading up to the hotel a bit daunting. I would advise any nervous drivers to arrive and leave during daylight. Drive carefully, sound your horn on the tight bends and leave yourself good time to arrive and to get to your next destination!

My usual accommodation fell through while working away from home, so I had to quickly book somewhere else at short notice. This was more expensive for 5 nights than I would usually pay, but for such an upscale hotel the price was very reasonable. I figured I was paying extra for the facilities which were all very nice. I made good use of the pool which was never overly busy in the evening. It was a bit of a treat.

When I first booked in I was given the key to an already occupied room. I’m afraid I gave the lady quite a fright! I hope the hotel apologised to her. The room I ended up with was right next to a fire door that lots of people passed through, so plenty of banging at all hours. I wonder if it’s possible to put an extra soft close mechanism on these doors if they are next to a room.

Every member of staff was incredibly friendly and nice, and it made our stay feel even more premium. The pool and gym were great, very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious, buffet style with lots of choice, everything tasted high quality and well cooked. The view and grounds were lovely, and being able to sit looking out onto the countryside in the bar was exactly what we wanted. There were also lots of parking spaces close to the reception, which made coming and going easier.

Whilst the images of our room on our booking showed and outside area as part of our room, unfortunately this doesn't appear to be the case. However, we didn't complain as the room absolutely had a view, and was in a central location for the pool, reception and breakfast. We happed to come during a heatwave, and unfortunately the rooms don't have aircon. There was a fan which did a good job, but when all the air is hot there's only so much it could do. This was probably our biggest complaint, as it made the nights very uncomfortable. The room could have also done with a better hoover around skirting boards, as there were leaves on the floor. Other than this it was spotless, and cleaned daily besides perhaps hoovering.

Beautiful main estate, historic location, with lots of fantastic history to learn about. Loved the swimming pool access and sauna room. Library area and bar area especially lovely place to sit in the evening. The breakfast spread was fantastic and in a gorgeous conservatory. All of the staff were lovely and very welcoming.

The newer additions to the hotel seemed a little run down, with creaking underfloors and funky smells in the corridors, and it struggled with the heat in the summer. The standing fans we were given didn’t do much to cool the rooms down so made for some uncomfortable nights sleep. Unfortunately the pool area also needs a little love to be brought back up to perfection, as the jacuzzi seemed to have been removed, the steam room was not functioning, and some of the tiles in the pool were cracked and missing.

Absolutely everything. As other reviewers mentioned, it is a bit confusing to find the reception on arrival, as it is on one side of the main building but we were aware of it beforehand. (There are several parking areas so do not park and unload luggage until you know where your room is!). We were delighted with our room, ground floor on another building, not far from the pool and gym. The staff were extremely nice, the grounds magnificent, it was peaceful, breakfast was excellent and included in the price. The breakfast room in itself was a delight -as was walking and admiring the old historical building. We've stayed in other De Veré hotels and we have never be disappointed. The pool was a very good size, easy access with an area for swimmers.

Nothing to dislike! We're definitely coming back

We were upgraded which was a lovely surprise. Very comfortable bed and room facilities apart from a lack of hot water. We did inform reception and we were able to then have hot showers but for some reason still couldn't get any hot water from the sink when having a morning wash which was odd as would presume water ran on same system. Breakfast was excellent with super lovely friendly staff. Unfortunately both the jacuzzi and steam room were closed during our stay due to 'technical difficulties' which was disappointing as would have liked to use both. All very clean and highly maintained and the staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful.

The lack of hot water in the room as had to boil the kettle to have a hot morning wash and the closed jacuzzi and steam room during entire duration of our stay as we were looking forward to using both! Also, it may only seem a small thing but we both commented upon the awful, cheap toilet paper in the bathroom which seemed incongruent to the rest of the comfortable and luxurious accommodation - it really was nasty!

We stayed in the main house in a lovely suite. The room was clean and had plenty of tea/coffee options. Mentioned it was my husband birthday when booking. received a card on the bed acknowledging his birthday and tokens from reception for cocktails. Thank you! Lovely cooked breakfast with good options.Received a walking trail map of the estate we went on the Hare trail, very nice shaded by trees as it was a hot day! Place's to sit on the trail. Lovely pool and gym didn't get the opportunity to use either. Maybe next time 😊

Reading some of the previous comments, if I had taken them to heart, I wouldn't have enjoyed the experience. Was a busy weekend at the restaurant. Once seated, it seemed like we were forgotten for a while. The food was ok. The cheese cake with Latimer honey was very nice!

Beautiful setting, charming and spacious bar and dining areas. Lots of spaces where you could just sit and relax or have a quiet walk around the grounds. Excellent facilities (i.e. gym, swimming pool). Really good breakfast.

A bit far from nearest town and roads not suitable for walking. Need transport/taxi if you wanted to eat outside of hotel. We ate at hotel restaurant as it was taking too long to get a taxi. Food was good but service was really poor. Don't know if they were just short staffed - we ordered our food but then had to fetch someone to take our drink orders. We asked for desserts, waitress went to fetch menus but never returned to us.

The vastness of the space and plenty of activity to keep all entertained. There is fantastic grounds to explore and the building itself is wonderful to see and explore with its vast history and its use in World War 2. Can see why some companies would use it for training activities and seminars. The bar menu was simply ideal and concise - too many hotels and restaurants give you too much choice. The staff in the bar and reception were friendly and knowledgeable - it is always good to be greeted by a smile.

Room lacked ventilation - the window and fan were not sufficient to keep the temperature down - signage was confusing on the site - not clear where certain room numbers were and where you could park. The bathroom though spacious - the bath/shower were slightly in need of renovation and the shower pipe from the tap was great if you were about 4' tall!?! Another thing which spoils the site is the outdoor gym equipment - I do not want to come out and see my fellow guests trying to impress by sweating from every pore whilst they attempt to give themselves a cardiac arrest!?!

Beautiful country house with good facilities. Nice swimming pool and great area for walks. Lovely Penhaligons Toiletries in the room. Super comfy pillows and comfy bed !

Sadly no air conditioning in the room. A tower fan was provided though. 1838 restaurant although lovely and food was of good quality , we felt it was overpriced. We both had the Parma ham starter which consisted of two slices of Parma ham, a spoonful of creamed goats cheese and a quarter of a fig for £14.50 per person. Our room although clean and comfortable had a large vent outside which was noisy and late night noise caused from barrels being moved underneath our window. Disappointing considering that we’d paid £249 for a nights stay.
