Friendly atmosphere, good value. The staff were very helpful. Location is great for many of the sights in this area of Wales, particularly for walkers. Great place to meet the locals.
Small bathroom with limited facilities. Minimal storage space Couldn't drink the tap water, however fresh water was provided on the landing. The building is an old listed building therefore windows were the old wooden sash style. As it is Community owned they are gradually making improvements. Breakfast not included.

The hotel is lovely & cosy. The room was very clean & the shower had good pressure. There’s lots of parking outside. The local area is stunning, with several walks. Cynfal waterfall trail starts about a 2 minute walk from the hotel - it is breathtaking; don’t miss the opportunity to see it. About a 10 min drive away is a lovely pub called Bryn Arms which did great food, with veggie options. Ffestiniog power station is also a 10 minute drive, with lovely views, more waterfalls and a decent cafe. The stream trains also come right past the cafe. We met lots of very friendly locals, who gave us tips for walks we would have missed and shared the history of the town. There was also a welsh male choir singing hymns, and a local band who were did an impromptu mini gig. It was just perfect!! Drink selection in the bar was very good. They pull a great Guinness We will definitely be coming back!
The food wasn’t the best; the chicken burger was raw, veggie options limited. But for a community pub, it was fine & as above, the Bryn Arms is only a short drive. There’s nothing else in village except a small shop so I’d advise taking snacks & supplies. We stayed for New Years & was a bit disappointed as there was no entertainment or music (except a dj in basement) & lots of kids & teenagers running around. But it’s their local pub & we were only guests so we can’t complain, was just disappointing after how good the previous night had been

Many times we talk about to do extra mile...staff of this hotel do extra 10 miles. We stucked in fog. The Car broke down and services no available? It was like in bad movie its night ..fog no help ..with children in car and nobody who passing around bothered to ask are you OK?. I contacted hotel and lovely staff found the taxi who would come out and find us on the road which doesn't have actual name on the map just numbers. Finally, after 6 hours waiting for rescue services which didn't come we managed to get warm food in hotel . Following morning manager of hotel offered us to stay in hotel until we managed everything re car, train or other way to return safely back home. When finally rescure unite stated will come and see the car, the same manner of hotel was so kind and took us back to that nameless road where we left our car. 1 hour later the same manager stopped by to check on us if we have any update and brought us refreshments and stated once I was in the same situation I understand how u feel.. Huge thank you from my family to yours for all your help support and understanding...for doing that extra mile, for asking are you ok, how can I help? THANK YOU xx.. PS we will come back in better weather :))

We arrived very late, so unfortunately the pub kitchen had closed. A few minutes after chatting to the very friendly bar staff in the pub, a lady appeared with a couple of toast slices, butter and jam for us. So, top grades for the commitment and helpfulness of the staff. The family room was as expected. The building is old and listed, so don't expect a perfectly modern room. But it all works fine and considering the age of the building and the fact that it's community-run, this is perfectly fine and kept clean. I understand that the rooms may be renovated soon, so things might improve further. Our room was spacious and very quiet - though perhaps the rooms above the pub may be a bit more noisy until it closes. Breakfast was fine with all the basics of continental breakfast - toast/jam/butter and also various cereals/yoghurt plus tea/coffee. Plus, we had a nice chat with the friendly lady looking after the breakfast.
The shower was installed on a pedestal, so you had to climb up quite a bit, and at 1.92m height I struggled to fit under the shower head. But it was no major issue, and this is perhaps something that will be resolved with the upcoming renovation.

The people are delightful, so helpful and friendly, the evening food good - fourth time staying there. As a solo female traveller I felt totally at home, eating my supper with a pint in the bar.
Nothing at all. I would only suggest that the drinking water carafe in the room is a bit small.(the tap water in the room is not for drinking), but I had brought with me a couple of litre bottles of water (I was out hiking all day, needed to fill.up my water bladder for my rucksack). There is extra water on the landing if you need more. I bring a travel hairdryer too as there isn't one in the room (but that's not a bad point, just a tip 👍).

The hotel is situated in a very convenient location, on the Snowdonia Slate Trail. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. The atmosphere in the pub and hotel was very friendly, it was great seeing so many people come together and sharing stories. They have a few events on during the week, so a great place to stay if you want to hike during the day and be involved in a community event in the evening. The food was delicious and the portions were huge, real good value for money. Very accomodating, we will definitely come back!
The only thing I would like to see different is more items on the breakfast menu. Despite it being a continental breakfast, the selection was very basic - limited to toast and cereal. Most hotels continental breakfasts offer a few hot items too, like bacon or eggs - made to order to limit food waste.

The best and beautiful place to live for nights where you want to take proper sleep with the heater and my friends(they loved it). This is my first appearance & experience in wales and to be honest it’s an amazing place and you have beer garden and people were enjoying the live sports and drinking. I recommend you to visit and enjoy.😍🥳🥰😎
Nothing to be honest

What a fabulous find! Absolutely stunning location and the warmest of all welcomes. I thoroughly enjoyed my two nights stay at Y Pengwern and although I came for work, I left feeling like a friend. It’s a fabulous enterprise and is clearly very much loved by everyone involved. It was an excellent stay, with everything I needed, and a great place to base myself from. Also the food is exceptionally good (take your appetite with you, the portions are generous and high quality) as is the well-stocked bar. I like it so much I’m going back again next month! Thanks to all the team there for being so great, you have a truly special place that I would recommend to anyone.
That I couldn’t stay longer!

Staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms were comfortable, clean and cosy. Location was ok lovely village but not many other pubs & restaurant nearby if you wanted to wander. However the evening meal was really lovely.
After the evening meal there were no seating available in the main bar area so had to sit outside. Fortunately it was good weather so not a major problem. I did find the breakfast a little disappointing I was expecting more choice. It would have been nice if they put on some croissants as an alternative to toast and better selection of fruit. However the coffee was amazing. I would be more than happy to book again.
