An individual hotel with rooms accesed via a winding staircase. Breakfast was made with quality ingredients,freshly cooked, presented and served. Good choice of evening meal menu. Our choices were beautifully cooked presented and served. There was a lovely relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere in the restaurant. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well serviced. Any extra items needed were provided immediately if requested. Overall we found the hotel to be well managed, clean, warm, friendly, with a relaxed friendly vibrant atmosphere. Staff were friendly, efficient and well supported by the Manager to deliver good service. We have stayed before and will stay again. Keep up the good work!

A comfortable room in a quiet setting and friendly staff. It's clear that attention has been paid to renovating what is an old building. I did not eat dinner there, but there were plenty of people who appeared to be locals enjoying the bar and restaurant, which can only be a good sign - it wasn't loud, though.

The cooked breakfast was tasty, but the coffee came from cheap sachets - considering the general aspect of the place, I would have expected fresh coffee. The hallway from the main downstairs area to the upstairs rooms seems to have missed the renovation. Heavily marked and appearing dirty, it was a surprise to see considering the high standards seen elsewhere.

The breakfast was extremely good, and the chef went out of his/her way to accommodate our needs. Our bedroom was beautiful, and spotlessly clean. Bathroom was spotless, with toiletries provided. MASSIVE towels = wonderful!

After living/working in hospitality for many years, I do think the bedroom should have a waste basket, as the only bin is tiny, and located in the bathroom. Our bed was enormous, and extremely comfy. However, the room only had one bedside cabinet, therefore, one side of the bed ‘slightly’ dipped, mainly because people will sleep on the side where they can easily place items on the cabinet. I’d strongly suggest cabinets on both sides of the bed, if possible.

The meal we had in the evening and breakfast was lovely

We arrived from Wales 2hrs early, and was bluntly told we couldn't check in, and there was no space in the car park so we went for a drive to kill time. The same unfriendly guy (with a european accent) who told us we couldn't check in tried to overcharge us £20 for each dog, when we'd called ahead and was told it was £10 each dog. We were allocated a top floor room up some steep and narrow stairs which was very aquard with the dogs, and also not the best for toileting the dogs. Room was on a slant, but that's just due to the age of the hotel.

It was much appreciated the quick action the staff took when the electricity failed in my room whom quickly offered an alternative. Both rooms were very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were modern. It was also an advantage that the hotel had an onsite restaurant considering I was using the room as an office.

If you are on a street facing room, there is not a lot of sound insulation to stop the outside noise entering the room. Not a problem with me but something to have in mind for others. The court yard facing rooms were very quite.

The room was very comfortable and extremely clean. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits in the room which was a nice touch. In the bathroom, there were very small shower gels. I would have preferred dispensers but there is a small shop next door to solve this. The hotel is decorated well but the stairs to the bedrooms might be an issue to people with mobility issues.

We come down for breakfast at 9.30. Tea cups etc hadn't been replaced and we had to ask for more. The breakfast menu is varied. The breakfast is big but needs to cooked with more care.

I loved the convenient location for convenience of the village and the friendly welcoming on arrival. I was offered help with my bag but I declined even though the room was on the top floor. The room depicted the age and character of the building but also provided the efficient modern bathroom, TV and wifi facilities which fulflled the home comforts. I thoroughly enjoyed the full English breakfast on both days and I was very impressed with the choice of menu available for lunch, dinner and snacks. Every member of staff I spoke to was friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Lion Hotel again if the need arises.

It's a shame there wasn't a lift to higher rooms for the benefit of people with mobility issues. On the health & safety side, there was a rug in my room with a curled-up corner. It could have been turned in a clockwise direction thereby hiding the obvious trip hazzard. The daily housekeeping staff were obviously very thorough and efficient, so I was amazed to find an old cigarette end on the bathroom floor when I went back to the room on day two. I can only assume that it must have come from a mop she'd used to clean the floor. As an avid non-smoker I have to say it wasn't a pleasant find. Otherwise the room was spotless. It's also a shame that the hotel doesn't have its own onsite carpark.

Location was great , in the centre of town. Short walk to the canal to walk to dog. Choice of 4 pubs in the village. Breakfast was fantastic, hot and a good choice . Room was a bit small but comfy bed and great shower . Decor was modern and room very clean . Food in the restaurant was good and great service. There’s a lovely courtyard to have a drink . Very dog friendly.

Room was very hot, although it was a hot day . Our room was at the front of the building and was a bit noisy at night . But we were there one night so wasn’t an issue .

Evening dinner very good, Staff pleasant and helpful. Full cooked breakfast was enormous!! Room adequate (for a one night stay). although may be a bit cramped for a longer stay

No decaff tea available in room or at breakfast. We thought that the choice of breakfast cereals was rather limited No 'attached' parking at the hotel Stairs to 1st floor room concerning and could be dangerous if carrying large suitcase either in or out. Our stay was a Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy which made it very noisy

The old style building was beautiful. The room was small but sufficient. Bathroom was lovely. The breakfast was superb.

Stained carpet, large gap under door which let in a constant flashing green from the emergency exit sign. TV which was barely even HD quality. Windows so thin it sounded like they were open. And a room which wasn't level. Putting things on the bedside cabinet would roll off as they are at an angle. And dressing table which wasn't near a mirror so not suitable for a woman to do hair or make up. As the plugs were not close to the mirror that was available. Simple little basic things.
