The room I stayed in was excellent value for money. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room and ensuite were both well equipped. The bathroom came with body wash, shampoo, and soap. This is not usually provided in such a budget priced room. There was even a hairdryer! Tea and coffee making facilities were of a good standard. The towels and bedlinen were spotless. There was some noise until closing time, but this is to be expected if you opt to stay in a pub! Once the pub shut, which it did at a reasonable time, it was very quiet indeed, and I had no problem sleeping! I would recommend this accommodation, and I will happily stay at the Westgate again.

There was nothing that I disliked

This is a 1600s pub with rooms above. It is a Greene King facility. Mark was great. He runs the bar downstairs and is always available. He cooked up a fantastic proper English breakfast and had it ready right on time. The room was small, but modern and clean. The location is fantastic: just a couple of blocks from the historic Abbey and Cathedral, and near many restaurants and the train and bus stations.

I have no complaints. The stay was great, and a great value!

Reasonable location. Was clean and served its purpose as a bed for the night.

Advertised as with parking. This was available but a very tight squeeze. If another car was already parked then there would not have been availability and this was a priority for our reason for booking. Also required a different postcode to locate access. Feel it is overpriced at £110. But still cheapest in the area, so no other options.

Breakfast excellent including choices, which was important to me as I have a Dairy free diet. Host could not be faulted.everything spotlessly clean.

Bed a bit too high and room on the small side, but as I was only sleeping there, about was out most of the day, it didn’t really matter but a chair, even a fold up one would have been appreciated.

Very friendly, helpful landlord; Magnificent breakfast; Extremely clean and comfortable, one single room and one double room, both with en-suites; Close to the city centre.

The single room/en-suite was a little cramped but was fine for a night or two BUT, considering the age/style of the building, I thought that the space was very well used.

Perfect location right in the centre of Bury St Edmunds. Olde worlde Pub, in a very busy and lively area. The host made sure everything was as we wanted, including the breakfast. The barman was very helpful, and the cleaner polite and cheerful. Beds comfortable too.

Carpark, but that can’t be changed.

The location was excellent, a few minutes walk from the town centre, which was reflected in the price which was approx half that of the town centre locations. Breakfast was very hearty and extremely well cooked. Other options were also catered for.

Only a minor criticism the shower was leaking from the top. Didn’t detract from our stay at all.

It was a pleasant & comfortable stay & ideal location for where I needed to be with a lot to pack in during my stay. Cooked breakfast was yummy & reasonable.

The breakfast I would have preferred earlier than 8.30 but it couldn't be helped as owner had a busy schedule although I had to skip one breakfast to achieve what I needed to do but it really wasn't a problem. Owner obliged.

Great location, the owner was lovely and no fuss, very chilled. Great breakfast too. And a beautiful dog 🐕 😍. This is a no fuss place, basic decor, no frills but well worth it. Would definitely stay here again, Great value. Thank you The Westgate

Was happy, no complaints

Breakfast was excellent, sufficient and well cooked. A lovely country pub atmosphere and very helpful staff. The host allowed us to have privacy, no ‘noseyness’

Corridors could be improved. Approach to room is awkward.We find showers difficult so do not use in hotels, could manage a few more shelves in en suite.
