Staff were so friendly and helpful. Maybe not all were bright, like when I went to the bar and asked for a brandy - I was told 'we dont have a drink called a brandy". I could see a bottle of remy sitting on a shelf at a my eye level but I said nothing. I opted for a glass of red wine instead. He was young and inexperienced, wearing a pair of baggy black pants and a pair of crocs. His hair was long and scruffy...actually this might sound negative but it wasnt...This young guy was really sweet and polite. He did nothing wrong other than fail to learn what brandy was. The breakfast staff were great, full of humour and very helpful. I wanted a croissant with my coked breakfast and this guy was so delighted to discover that, despite a busy couch tour turning up to eat before me, he still had four croissants, which he proudly brought on a plate.. Great staff!

The TV in the room would not work via the remote, despite battery changes and help from the reception. I finally found out myself how to turn the tv on via the minute buttons at the back of the tv. I still havent leathered how to change the channel but I could alter the volume. Not great but it wasnt a bad cannel and I learned a lot about Australian gold mining, if nothing else!

Previous breakfast diners did not leave much for us to have...but staff were helpful in topping up. We stayed an extra night and paid directly to the hotel,but the same happened and worse. All the tables were messy, and we had to ask for one to be made up for us. Very little food left out again, and he went out of his way to get yoghurts and fruit. When I settled for the two continental breakfasts, he only charged us for one, which was a nice gesture. I felt sorry for a woman guest who had paid for inclusive breakfast and went away disappointed..

This is a great hotel with excellent personal service. It is so wonderful these days to find someone on the reception desk (especially as I did not arrive until after 7 pm) who is actaully helpful in more ways than just handing over the room key. I was given very clear information as to where I could find good fish and chips, and provided with a real plate and knife & fork so that I could eat in in my room. Likewise, the breakfast arrangements are excellent with a lovely lady taking orders for tea/coffee and providing a written menu with a vast amount of choice. The service was very swift and the poached eggs freshly cooked (so often these days one helps oneself to food that has been cooked and waiting to be eaten for rather a long time!) The bedroom was very well appointed with no unnecessary frills.

Everything was great. I couldn't make the shower work, but that was me not being used to showers, and not the fault of the hotel! Anyway, there was a lovely bath and lots of hot water.

Bed was comfy, very clean room with nice high ceilings. Shower lovely and warm. There's a lift, which isn't a given in older buildings but much appreciated. I had a nice view from my room towards the city centre and Tay Bridge views. Stayed as somewhere to crash after a night out with friends, fit the bill perfectly.

As other reviews have said, it is noisy because of the club next door which is open until 3am all week. I was staying as I'd been on a night out myself so didn't bother me too much but if you need an early night pack earplugs!

The location is ideal for a night out. A good size room. Comfy bed. The breakfast was lovely. The waitresses were helpful with my dietary requests. Chef provided a great meal. Best scrambled eggs ever.

It is not the hotels fault. It's an old building which is evident. Local conservation regulations will prevent a complete revamp. Which is a shame. Old sliding sash windows don't keep a freezing winter wind out. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a modern style hotel. This is not the place for you. However, if you love traditional style. This will suit you to the ground.

The location was perfect. Kim on reception is an absolute credit to the company. She was friendly, efficient and had a wealth of local knowledge as did the lovely girl serving breakfast the next morning. All the staff were amazing and our overall stay was lovely. We'd come to Dundee for a friend's wedding so the location couldn't be better. Our room overlooked the Tay and wow, what a view. The hotel itself although old and a wee bit worn in parts, added charm to a very comfortable stay. Would highly recommend. 11\10 for location, wonderful staff and fantastic breakfast. Will definitely return.

Close to train station , only 7 min walk, centrally located, dated but lots of characters , historic building , Sir Winston Churchill stayed there several times and The Queens was his campaign HQ. Very large rooms, high ceilings and grand dining room and bar. And value for money.

Nothing in particular. However it could do with a bit of renovation and retouching to maintain its character. May be new carpets ?

Hotel was clean and staff were friendly. Views from back of hotel were lovely and I enjoyed waking up in the sunrise.

It was a period property so some traditional style was expected, but it was a little dated and with some modernisation, e.g. in bedrooms/bathrooms/shower, it would be vastly improved. Overall the temperature was especially warm and it was difficult to keep windows open to help cool down. It was therefore too stuff for me, but this may suit other travellers.

The location and being able to park was very good.

I don't know if it was part of the hotel room . There was no fan. You couldn't open the window if you were getting too hot. We were having high temperatures. I assumed there might of been a fan available. I needed the toilet then noticed there was no toilet roll. I had to go to reception to get toilet roll. Was a bit uncomfortable having to go to reception to get toilet roll.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They even upgraded me to the bridal "suite" which was definitely not a suite as it was only one room and was not particularly special. They also kept my luggage until check in and after check out. It was a good location for accessing all of the attractions and points of interest.

The hotel has seen better days in terms of decor. The windows didn't close properly. The layout of the room could have been better. e.g. the TV was in the wrong place.
