This was our 5th stay , we use use it to break our journey when we holiday on the North West Coast. It is very dog friendly. The position is stunning and we always have a Captain's room with a balcony, they are large and comfortable. Very clean.
Sadly we have noticed a change since covid particularly in the catering. Breakfast choices used to be varied and the choices were amazing. Now it's a help yourself buffet , limited cereal, fruit and juices. Stone cold plates for hot food is poor. The seafood restaurant does not offer that much in the way of seafood except what you could probably get in a non seafood restaurant.

The Hotel is easy to find and the location is superb. The room was excellent and the views from the balcony outstanding. We had 11 days of superb weather and saw Loch Linnhe and the surrounding areas at their best. The grounds around the hotel are just large enough for an early morning or evening walk if you have a dog(s) and the harbour and stone beach provide a marine interest. The Staff were superb in all areas. Having two small dogs we ate breakfast in the ante-room, opposite the breakfast room. The menu in the restaurant is excellent The history behind the hotel and the pier provide an interesting background to the building itself and the historical documents and pictures adjacent to the breakfast room provide social context and interest for even non-railway enthusiasts. There are panoramic views from any where within the hotel grounds, the rooms, bar and restaurant. From the room balcony we saw several groups of porpoises, dolphin or small whale activity, herons and my wife saw a Golden Eagle. From the pier we saw a bloom of jellyfish. The Hotel is ideally positioned for travel North, South, East or West and we did at three trips excluding West. East: Ballachulish, 5 minutes drive, Glen Coe Visitor Centre; 12 minutes, Kinlochleven 20 minutes. North; Fort William, 30 minutes drive, the Ben Nevis/Aonach Moor Visitor Centre; approx 40 minutes, Commando Memorial, 45 minutes, Fort George, 75 minutes, and Loch Ness approximately 90 minutes - all are well worth a visit. Oban (South); approx 40 minutes provides ferry access to Isle of Mull and Tobermory and there is a sandy beach within two miles. There is a Co-Op Supermarket in Ballachulish. The Ballachulish Slate Quarry, across the road from the Co-Op is historically important and interesting and provides the opportunity for short walks or a paddle in the lake if you have a dog(s). We didn't use the hotel swimming pool so have no comment to make on the leisure facilities.
We didn't dislike anything nor could we think of anything that could be substantially improved.

Lovely location, comfortable room with good quality bed and plenty of storage space. Acceptable bathroom for having a bath. Quite tasty food at dinner time in two restaurants ( one for guests with dogs) and gorgeous views over the loch. Nice pool and hot tub. Extra tea, coffees and milk sachets and biscuits available for guests to self serve. Very friendly staff. When I asked why room was not cleaned after the first night, they said they normally do not clean during guest’s stay but they did for us as we stayed 4 nights, which was a good result. Good quality fish served in restaurant.
Bath very narrow and uncomfortable for showering in. (No other shower). Could barely put both feet side by side. Smart TV did not work well. Breakfast was mediocre with pre cooked breakfast buffet - all food prepared in advance rather than cooked from scratch. Coffee poor. Toast cold. Dinner food was good but oversauced. Deserts were very average.

Lovely place, lovely food, beautiful view from the large comfortable room. Nearly overstayed as we did't want to get out of the pool :0) we got a good value "deal price" on the weekday we stayed and I'd love to have gone back for our return journey but the weekend price was too much for me :0(
Holly tree couldn't have been better, However... ....THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME BOOKING.COM HAVE TAKEN A BOOKING FROM ME FOR A TWIN ROOM AND NOT PASSED ON THE MESSAGE SO THAT WHEN MY FRIEND AND I TURN UP, WE HAVE A DOUBLE BED. Friendly and welcoming staff, lovely views from the bedroom and dining room nice evening dinner menu Good car parking
The breakfast was limited compared to other establishments charging the same rates. In particular they must provide warm plates it is very unpleasant placing a runny fried egg on a cold plate! They could get an electrically heated cabinet we have seen these in other establishments. Also there was very limited fruit selection. The bed was a good size but too hard for our taste

We had an amazing view over Loch Linnhe, could not get enough of it! Our room was really spacious and bed was also comfy. Reservation in the restaurant for dinner makes absolutely sense, great (sea)food! Also enjoyed the hot tub after long days outside/ hiking.
Hotel seems a bit past its prime but we enjoyed it anyway. Breakfast is okay (not much more, there is a leck of some fresh fruits, vegetables and cheese) - really not comparable to the great dinners we had!

The staff were all very friendly. The manager at reception was very helpful for our unexpected late arrival. The beds were very comfortable and we had a good night sleep. The hot tub and pool are kept warm which was wonderful after our long hike up a mountain. Really good views from our room. We hope to be back some day.
The tea and coffee at breakfast are not great. Would be good to offer guests a coffee machine to make their own and the tea was served very weak, we couldn't actually taste any tea. We ended up going out for coffee every day. However the food at breakfast was great! An excellent choice of options and cooked well.

Really idyllic location with stunning views. Couldn’t have picked a better spot for our trip. Used the pool and spa one night also and was great! The restaurant and bar area (indoor and outdoor) had amazing views of the loch also. I would definitely recommend this place!
More for awareness, but there’s very limited options for food in the area. We booked dinner at the hotel every night which was pretty good. At some stage the hotel might was to do an upgrade of their bathrooms but nothing to complain about, we really enjoyed our stay and were happy with our choice

A good bar and restaurant. Staff and the service was great at all times. Made good use of the pool and jacuzzi.
A dog friendly hotel. But no dog waste bins around the hotel grounds.
