We had a cooked breakfast, scrambled egg and mushrooms and tomato, toast and marmalade. Very enjoyable and well cooked. The staff were very friendly and welcoming giving us information we needed about the buses and additional interesting stories about the history of the house, the church and the historical town.

We could see that the property was under going refurbishment and what a huge job it was. Just thought that the blank board on the right hand side of the drive as you entered it would look better with something on it, even the name of the hotel.

Simple book in process and easy parking. Large room with a comfortable bed and excellent shower. Plenty of space for luggage etc. Staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent, hot, well cooked and tasty.

Room was a little dated and needed some modernising. Quite a few spiders webs and a fly or two to be found as well as a pair of underparts under the sink from a previous occupant! The pics on the websites make the hotel appear much more rural and country located than it is.

The staff are friendly, especially our Spanish waiter at breakfast . I've read the older reviews about the hotel being tired. I saw odd places where it was tired, but I could also see where it had recently had attention. It all takes time, but overall it was exceptionally clean. The full breakfast was very nicely cooked

Unfortunately the pots of uht milk in the room were off. We stayed 2 nights and the room/bed was remade between our 2days, but the same open cartons of off uht milk that we left on the tray in the bedroom had not been removed , but rearranged as if they were new pots I personally struggled with the two thin, rather firm pillows, but they suited my wife perfectly (I'm a fussy fluffy feather pillow man)

Hotel staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, across the piece from management to restaurant and cleaning staff. As were fellow guests who we interacted with at breakfast times. We only booked breakfasts, but the 'full Scottish' is highly recommended! What more can you ask for? :)

The shower facilities in both of the rooms we booked were perhaps beginning to get a little tired', but still adequately functional, just a bit of guesswork involved to achieve a comfortable temperature.

Room (I think it was 14?) was nice, although tv perhaps a bit small by modern standards. Good lighting for reading in bed - thankyou! Public rooms and front gardens very nice; the website showed more extensive grounds behind the hotel, but we had an evening commitment and a fairly early departure, so didn't get to look! Breakfast was fine and nicely served at table by friendly staff. Haddington is a nice small town with clearly a lot of history around the town and general region. I would like to come back to this area at some point, and this feels like a good base.

Maybe a bigger bathroom would be nice, but the one we had was perfectly adequate and the electric shower was ok. Nothing else not to like.

The hotel was everything we needed. A great base for a golf holiday with many courses close by. It was the right price for our needs and the food was very good with a great breakfast.

The hotel does exactly what it says on the tin. It isn’t luxurious but it’s warm and the staff are welcoming and friendly. If you are looking for constructive criticism, the bedroom furniture needs to be moved occasionally to vacuum underneath.

It is an old big house. The twins room is a basic one with kettle and instant coffee and sugar. It has a bath tube and electric shower. Nothing special. Breakfast included in the price, we had other expectations but is a menu with same full english breakfast, small portions, some jam, toast, milk and coffee. No variations from it. So for a long stay it will be boring. The beds were comfy, we had a good sleep. Bear in mind the house is 25 minutes maybe more away from Edinburgh. But is a nice and quite place for a couple of nights. As for the price, because it is convenient near the Scotland capital, in very busy summer season, it is quite high. Haddington is a small town, nothing much to do, just walk around.

Went with my daughter for a revisit to Haddington. Used to live there years ago. So we know the area and other pubs and restaurants really well. Didn’t eat here other than breakfast, but the breakfast was lovely. The room we had was lovely and comfortable. Big room. Lovely bathroom, lovely bedding and towels. Hotel was quiet being February, but the welcome was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff there and we are going to come back again with friends for our next trip.

It’s a wee bit dated, but I think the owner is dealing with it and some renovations were apparent.

All the staff at the Maitlandfield were exceptional. Matthew in particular, he made sure that we (and extra family!) Had enough space to enjoy ourselves in our own bar area to enjoy after a Christmas meal. This made our weekend and we will definitely be returning on our next trip to Haddington. Also, it's great that it's dog friendly, it doesn't just accept dogs, the maitlandfield made sure that our dogs had a warm welcome, too. Finally, the room and beds were lovely. Very comfortable and slept wonderfully while staying.

The only thing I would really like to see is a more updated bathroom. However, the one in the room was clean. It was just a little dated and tired.

From the outset, warm welcome (Michael), polite, and happy to answer any queries.I was a solo traveller for work purposes, room spotless, with some nice touches. Only had the opportunity to enjoy one breakfast and evening meal over 3 days, good quality and excellent value for money. Will definitely return.

Hotel looks 'tired' from the outside, don't let this put you off, staff, service, food and accommodation make up for that.
