Lovely location, breakfast was excellent, room was small but the small touch of class is evident wherever you looked.

The bed was very hard but I believe I would have gotten used to it. Would prefer a walk in shower but everything works perfectly. Only real disappointment was the food. The al a carte menu was expensive and I have to say the food didn't match the price. The lamb I had was very chewy and only look warm. (But this wouldn't stop us returning to Shibden Mill!!!). We agreed it would probably be better eating the pizza that were being cooked outside rather than eat the restaurant food.

The breakfasts are the best I’ve had anywhere. Delicious coffee, brown or white toast with honey or homemade marmalade, jams etc. Large selection of cereals with various fruits and toppings with delicious thick yogurt. Also a choice of hot porridge/oatmeal and cooked vegan, vegetarian and breakfast options in generous portions. What’s not to like! The room was tastefully decorated and very clean, with the bed in particular warm, and very comfortable. The bathroom had a lovely heated towel rail and bathtub/shower with copious amounts of hot water. Lovely thick towels in plenty and a dressing gown provided. The WiFi was excellent throughout and a radio and tv were available.

There could have been more vegetarian options for dinner’s main courses.

All staff were friendly, polite and professional, with only one exception on Saturday nights evening meal. The location is beautiful, as is the decor and very accommodating. We were snowed in and supported to get home. Overall the food was excellent, especially the breakfasts.

As alluded to earlier, our waitress on the sat night was curt, verging on rude. Informing us that the ‘nibbles’ are not part of the main menu and that is why our starters arrived before we had a chance to finish our nibbles. The main course, pork rib eye was so salty it was inedible. We received no feedback to our compliant and simply two drinks taken off our bill. I would have preferred reassurance that the salty issue will be resolved as it has put me off a return visit. However in saying that, the rest of the food was of high quality.

A True Gem of Yorkshire Hospitality We had a wonderful stay at this charming gastropub and inn - a true slice of historic England! The atmosphere beautifully captures the spirit of old Yorkshire, with the inn and pub blending into one cozy, character-filled experience. The food was absolutely outstanding - clearly the pride of the house, and rightly so. Every dish we tried was delicious and thoughtful, and it’s no surprise they’ve received multiple awards for their cuisine. Our room was clean and comfortable, with everything you’d expect from a 300-year-old building lovingly maintained - full of character, but with all the right modern touches. A delightful surprise awaited us upon arrival: homemade cookies in the room, which set the tone for a warm and welcoming stay. Evenings at the pub, with live music and a friendly atmosphere, were a highlight - as were the scenic walking trails just outside, including several around the beautiful Shibden Valley. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a truly authentic and memorable countryside experience!

The only minor downside was that the room is adjacent to a technical/utility area. While the hotel clearly made efforts to soundproof it, occasional noise from washing or drying machines could still be heard during the day. Once noticed, it becomes something you’re lightly aware of — though never enough to seriously affect the experience. That said, the beautiful surroundings, access to Shibden Valley walking trails, and above all the fantastic food more than made up for it.

A lovely inn. Quaint and old world. Charming bar and restaurant area. Surrounding area is green and lush. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent - quality ingredients in both cooked and continental options. Nicely furnished rooms. V quiet and peaceful. Nice selection of tea and coffee in the room plus complimentary home made biscuits and bottle of water. V comfy bed. You can hear the birds singing outside your room.

Evening dinner menu dishes are overly complicated with too many ingredients and ideas when more simple genuinely good British classics preferable This is reflected in the price point. Complexity and price has increased a lot since our previous visits. We struggled to find a starter and a main in which there wasn’t something that put us off by using too many flavours and ingredients.

In a glorious river setting, at the bottom of a small valley surrounded by trees & birds singing, is a hidden gem, Shibden Mill Inn. Three miles outside Halifax, yet you could be deep within the Yorkshire Dales. The building is historic with gorgeous wooden beams, stone flagged floors, lovely old fireplaces & cosy nooks to relax. Stylish but unpretentious, it feels so comfortable & yet such a special place. The food is stunning, rooms are spotless & quirky & the staff are amazing ..... kind, caring & utterly on it. The day we visited the weather was beautiful & we idled away the afternoon sitting on the terrace by the river. Some were sharing woodfired pizzas made to order, others just enjoying a pint of Timothy Taylor's best. Dinner in the beamed dining room was elegant but relaxed. Just a great place.

Beautiful place indoors and out, great location, great beer and superb breakfast, excellent beer garden, friendly professional staff.

I know this can't be helped but there was a pretty bad smell from the little glen over the way, it was a hot humid August day and there is obviously some kind of effluent running through there so the raw sewage aroma wasn't great. Also, someone was smoking right under our room in the middle of the night and fumigated the place. Bank holiday weekend I know but a little pricey for a pretty small room, paid £170 for one night.

A one night stay , we had a business meeting the following day. Our room was one of the cheapest and so small, comfortable, beautifully decorated. We booked an evening meal. It was a Sunday and maybe the menu reflected the choice.The surrounding area is beautiful and great for walkers. The roads are steep and narrow. Breakfast - great choice cooked or continental.

having a restaurant and bar , there is a pervading smell of food and air fresheners to mask it. But you nose acclimatises. Not good for those who have difficulty with stairs

Loved this hotel, it was my birthday treat and it definitely lived up to my expectations and more. Lovely building, friendly helpful staff and perfect service, it was just the kind of place we enjoy, good Yorkshire hospitality with no airs and graces. Had a very large beer garden too, perfect for the gorgeous April weather provided 😂 Breakfast was exceptional too, served in another separate very comfortable room with homemade goodies. All in all a perfect nights stay, room was lovely too, really comfy bed and lots of extras. It even had a massive car park so that wasn’t an issue either.

The room was very comfortable, welcoming and well appointed. It wasn't the biggest room in the world and the bed did dominate the room, but it was exactly what I expected and wanted from a room whilst travelling for business. The bathroom appeared to be newly refurbished and was immaculate. The shower was an excellent size. The room also had a nice little desk area, which allowed me to work freely, which was appreciated. The WIFI was good, which was a relief as I had very little mobile service at the hotel. In terms of the food, the dinner was exceptional. The steak I had was cooked to perfection and the sides and sauce were also lovely. I paired the main with a lovely glass of malbec, followed by a chocolate desert and an espresso martini. I topped off the night with a G&T served in an opulent glass! The next morning, I had the Full Yorkshire breakfast, which was equally delicious - great local sausages and nice thick bacon. I certainly didn't expect to put on quite so much weight over 24 hours, but was worth it!

Honestly, I can't think of anything. I used to travel up to Halifax for meetings 3-4 times a month up until COVID, but hadn't needed to stay up there since that period. I would often stay at Holdsworth House hotel (which is also excellent), but this beats HH hands-down in two major areas - quality of food and the room rate. Next time I stay in Halifax, i'll be definitely staying at The Shibden Mill again.
