The location of The Counting House Hotel at 50 Cornhill in the City of London is great, and since it was an historic banking institution adds to the charm . It was an easy walking distance to the hotel from the Liverpool Train Station, and fairly close for us to walk to some of the sites we were interested in such as the Tower of London and St. Paul's Cathederal. When checking-in to a downtown hotel that is an independent operation, and not an international brand, you never know what to expect, however, when my wife and I stepped off the lift at the Reception Desk we were warmly greeted by two amazing ladies. Earlier that day we had driven from Scotland to Cambridge --first time driving on the left side :(0 !, where we turned in our rental car, then hopped a train to London-Liverpool Station and schlepped our bags to The Counting House. We were exhausted, especially having just finished a two week concert band tour in Germany, so when we saw the smiling, friendly faces of Egle and Lauryn we knew we would be taken care of and we were at "home" for a few days! The room was spotless and everything was perfectly clean--good job housekeepers. We can not say enough about all of the staff we interacted with, both in the hotel and the pub/restaurant. The bartenders were friendly and quick, the young blond lady (didn't get her name) who apparently is the bar and restaurant manager was friendly and efficient, the young lady who is the breakfast attendant each morning was friendly and helpful, and our server, Sydney, in the restaurant upstairs was not only friendly and spot on with her tasks, but her warm and hospitable manner caused my wife and I to return for dinner all three nights! The obvious theme here is Friendly and Efficient Staff. On our last night at The Counting House, we spoke to each staff member, in the hotel and the pub, to tell them good-bye and there was a definite feeling that we would be leaving friends.

Everything was great!

The room was very clean and tidy, the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful nothing was any trouble to them. Breakfast was great and available until 11am which was useful. The lift to all floors was also useful but also necessary. There is a tube station at the bottom of the street and a bus stop between the hotel and the tube station where you can catch a bus to wherever you need to be.

It's a bit out of the way for the main attractions like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace etc. but the quality and presentation of the place make it worth it and, as mentioned, the bus stop and tube station means you can go anywhere quite quickly and easily. Overall I would definitely consider going back.

The rooms are very good. The venue is actually quite incredible.

When arrived early no where to easily get changed before check in time. Can stow luggage with concierge but no nearby toilets etc to get changed they are downstairs/downstairs in the bar. Plus to get into the actual hotel bit there is a side entrance and tiny lift but it’s okay really. We couldn’t check in so stowed bags and went out. Unfortunately we came back at 10pm and didn’t have an access card … rang the bell and nearly gave up but luckily the receptionist came down to let us in and then check us in. Phew.

Staff was wonderful.

I think the discerption of the hotel was not clear to me in that there was no lobby or lounge. Also access to the hotel was difficult due to the nature of the building, had I recognized those difficulties I would most likely not booked the room. My wife and I were also on extend travel and carrying 2 large suitcases. it was difficult getting the up to the room and the was not enough space in the room to work with them. Most of the issues were most likely due to me not looking clearly at the advertising material.

We had a good breakfast selection, including the choice of the real english breakfast with pudding! Fruits, croissants, perfect coffee (ask at the bar to make it), very supportive and friendly staff at the hotel reception (we were warmly welcomed by Egle), other staff members were also very warm and supportive), as well as in the bar/restaurant kind atmosphere created by the staff and building itself. Fish&Chips meal is very good there! Location is perfect indeed. The river is so close, Metro station, just few stops to Oxford street and other objects. Hotel creates romantic english atmosphere, exclusively it allows to feel the spirit of the country.

There is nothing to say - we liked it very much

Arrived at 11am to drop off our luggage - our room was actually ready and we were able to check in and have the room from then - for no extra cost. Bed was large and very comfortable. We didn’t hear any noise at night - either from outside or within the hotel. Free breakfast included.

We stayed midweek this time, rather than a weekend and the price was almost 50% more - so rather expensive. It would be nice to have a proper coffee included in the free breakfast - or even a Nespresso option (like the in-room machine).

An amazing hotel with unique rooms that have character. Everything was impeccable, even their restaurant/pub had great food and beers, both for dinner and for breakfast. The room was very spacious and tastefully decorated. The atmosphere was amazing. The amenities included coffee, tea, hot choc. The room was equipped with a clothes iron and even had a bluetooth speaker. The window was openable so you could let some air in.

There was a shower and a bathtub, but only the shower had shower gel, so I had to bring it over. The elevator is a bit on the small side

First class receptionist (Gabi) and the room was very good.

I invited a guest (my Godson) to join us for breakfast and assumed a flat rate cost for that extra breakfast. When I paid the bill I discovered that I had been charged per item. 2 small glasses of OJ (from concentrate!) were charged separately. Crazy. My bill for the extra breakfast was £25. When I complained the staff member (Gladys) was anything but helpful. I would expected that a charging structure like that should be explained at the outset when menus were presented. I presented my 10%0ff food voucher and she removed the service charge but the experience left a bad taste. The Counting House attracted me because it was value for money. The breakfast experience destroyed that image for me.

The breakfast was fine. We had a cooked English breakfast which was cooked quickly and was very eatable. The serving staff were all very pleasant and happy to help. There was a limited selection of fruit and cold meats but ample bread, juice and drinks. The room was very comfortable and extremely clean. The area was lovely- interesting with lots to see nearby.

Finding the way in initially was difficult as the bar was very busy when we arrived. Luckily a helpful member of the bar staff showed us where to go.

Easy check in, nicely appointed room with a comfortable bed and good shower, fluffy towels. Good breakfast included in the price which was very much appreciated (normally its an additional cost). staff were helpful and friendly. Chose the hotel due to its location - easy access to the city and east end, so we could visit the Sunday markets (e.g. Brick Lane and Spitalfields) on foot.

Unable to open the window, so had to rely on the a/c which for us was not ideal. I didn't see any tea provided in the room although there was good quality coffee and biscuits
