The staff were SO lovely and SO accomodating!! Answered all my questions online before my stay and were nothing short of friendly and helpful while I was there. Very reassuring. Lockers available (bring ur own lock or u can buy one!), smoking area seemed to be always accessible which I was very grateful for. Outlets available for every bed! (two plugs and two usb ports) Pizza available all night! Great breakfast and lunch menus have you sorted from 8am to 10pm! Food was great, lovely coffees!! I recommend the peach Super8 for any cider/pale ale enjoyers. Lambeth North station at the corner, very short walk from Waterloo station! Very close to shops like Iceland. The key card lets you come and go as you please. Able to put luggage in the back before/after ur stay. Cleaners are always on the go every day! The bathrooms were exceptionally clean! Towels available. They were very kind to give me a lend of a lighter in a pinch. Beautiful pub. Pub quiz every Wednesday! Stayed 9 nights and not once was I disturbed by noise. It's on a quiet street. I'm an art student from Ireland and I'm openly LGBTQ+ with a very eccentric fashion taste - not once did they treat me any differently! I felt very welcome there! I have no doubt that if there was any trouble, they would handle it with grace. Genuinely seems like they've thought of everything!

Location exceptional. Lambeth North tube station and Waterloo station near by, so is the south bank. Staff nice and helpful.

Air in rooms was humid and in the mornings very bad. Ventilation only when all windows open, some didn't like this and closed them. Some roommates were very rude and switched lights off always when I needed them even in early evenings. Shower rooms very cold and humid. Only two toilets in the floor. Always out if toilet paper. Woodwork swollen beside doors and looked like there was mold. Toilets door lock broken. In rooms always other people stuff left behind when they left, old and dirty towels hanging so No place to hang your coat. No place to dry your towel after shower. Under the lowest bed the floor was filthy and dusty, stuff there too. Lights broken. Next time I will find a hotel.

Good ubication, good food but a bit expensive, the staff is REALLY nice, they offer me to keep my backpack for free before check-in and after check-out while I was checking around, so at night I just was waiting at the pub, I ate a hamburger while charging my phone, asked for my backpack and left to the airport at 9pm

The bathroom was kinda dirty 50% of the time I used it because there were too many people sharing bathroom, but of course that depends on the guests. Also the showers need to have a bench inside the shower so people can put things or even change clothes inside the shower, not everyone wants to walk into a 12 people room in a towel. My bed was at the very top and it was a bit difficult to reach, the ladder was to straight to climb easily. Besides that, it is very worthy for the price

Room had clean amenities and plenty of lockers for storage, close to a regularly cleaned bathroom/shower. Rooms are also secured with keycards at room door and entrance so I felt safe. Right above a very social pub with all daypart food options, and great rates for extended week stays. Also a free secure storage room to use beyond your allotted stay. Staff was very personable and friendly, eager to help out or answer any questions or recommendations for things to do nearby.

Room was quite hot and uncirculated even at night with the window open and fan blowing. Stairs may be considered steep and long for older patrons bearing luggage.

The Steam Engine was very friendly and secure. Guests were all well mannered and a mix of decent people. This was my first time staying in a hostel so I was a little bit apprehensive about leaving luggage in a room with strangers. But there were no issues, I could have left my large suitcase in the luggage store, but I just didn't feel the need. Beds were comfortable and the room was warm. You couldn't have asked for a better environment. The late night pizza was very tasty, the breakfast was top notch and very affordable.

Checking out at 10am on New Year's day. 🤣🤣 Some days you just need that little longer in bed for very genuine alcoholic reasons.

It was very clean and comfy. Top bunks are a bit uncomfortable (lots of climbing up and down), but other than that everything was excellent. Very clean, excellent value for money, excellent location with a tube station just a few minutes away. There's also the Imperial War Museum which is pretty much at the same distance as the underground station. The 24/7 reception is nice, and you can actually check out later than 10 a.m., provided that you pay a fee of £5. Overall I think it's pretty much the best you can get at such a reasonable price in such an amazing area.

The only complaint other than the top bunk being uncomfortable would be that there's not much space for luggage, but they do have a storage space in the back if you really had to pack a lot of bags.

First time trying a hostel as I wanted to overnight stop in London without paying Hotel prices. The decor of the building is great, nice and smart and tidy, and the pub downstairs is excellent. Good range of drinks open 24hrs for guests and food served til late. Staff very attentive and chatty. Room was quiet, despite an open window, as the pub is located in a peaceful side street. Bar was almost empty so cannot comment on what noise from pub would be like if it was busy. Other guests in room were very respectful; quiet when moving and opening and closing doors. Rooms are clean and beds comfy, showers were warm and powerful.

The room was very, very hot. The hotel does say that there is no aircon, but that fans are provided, so it wasn’t a surprise, but be aware if visiting in summer and you like to be cool at night. No chef available on Sunday morning due sickness, so couldn’t sample breakfast, which was a shame as it looked good!

The staff at the hotel were so nice and friendly and the hotel it self was clean perfect for people who may want to stay in the Uk , I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who plans to visit the Uk and perfectly located for you to visit near by tourist attractions it close by the Big Ben, London eye and other spots you may want to explore highly recommend it.

Nothing to say for this part, everything was amazing and nothing was bad, maybe the showers need to be added more hot water for anyone to shower, there were a few time the water came out cold, that can be the only thing that needs a checkout.

I truly enjoyed my stay in The Steam Engine hostel! Its location is absolutely perfect, it’ll take you 10 mins walking to get to the London Eye or Big Ben. It’s also well connected in terms of transportation. There are lots of bars (including the one downstairs) and supermarkets in the area. It’s very convenient that the reception and bar are open 24/7. The staff is really friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and spacious enough, as well as the bathrooms.

The only thing I’d like to point out is that it’d be convenient to have sockets in the bathrooms since when someone was sleeping in the room, I had to use the hairdryer right in the middle of the corridor. The rest was perfect!

Friendly staff who were willing to help at any time, I had an issue with my bedding and they were quick to solve it! Breakfast was delicious and well priced, and beds were surprisingly comfortable haha!! The hostel is only around a 10 minute walk from Waterloo Station so is easy to get to. I got back to the hostel quite late but had no issues getting back inside and there was always someone at the bar to help.

The lockers/cages were very loud to open/put things in which made me worried that I was disturbing others when I got back to the hostel quite late. Curtains in the beds would be nice for some more privacy.
