The location is fantastic. The doorman was consistently welcoming and the check in experience was friendly and efficient. An early arrival was accommodated without a second thought- thank you.

The F&B staff were poor- though perhaps inconsistent is a better description. Single diners/travellers can be ignored and this was true both in the Bistro for lunch and breakfast. Asking for tea, getting coffee and a laugh at me for then reordering tea was a little galling. Not having water poured when it was for every other table was a shame. Similarly the bar seemed perennially under-staffed and miffed when trying to order- quite strange.

Lovely designed hotel with excellent staff and service. The location was quite handy for the places we wanted to visit and not far from the metro station. Too bad we only spent one night.

Small issue with what sounded like the air on starting in and off very often during the night. And we had to get used to the ‘15% discretionary tip included’ thing, which we also found in other restaurants in London. To me, this takes away the genuine appreciation for someone’s service and it forces you almost to tip if you want to avoid offense even if service would have been bad (which it definitely was not at Sofitel). Why not increase prices then to increase staff salaries, it’s more transparent upfront for guests and leaves room for tipping based on real service.

The hotel is beautiful, situated in an ideal position to visit central London’s main attractions. Cleanliness and courtesy are hallmarks of the hotel. Breakfast was marvellous, plenty of options and the breakfast staff was extremely attentive even to food allergies. A special thank you goes to Rika who took care of us on our arrival and to Flavia who took care of us in the spa! Thumbs up to all! The atmosphere found in the room before bedtime was very very appreciated!

Trying hard to think of something…

We arrived at 0830 am and by 930am our room was available and we were able to check in early. The person at the front desk was fabulous! Most of the concierge was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was beautiful and would have been more enjoyable had the staff been a little more friendly. We only had coffee there.

One of the waiters outside said he would let us know when a table became available so we had a drink in the bar. I told the bartender that I was looking for something I had in mind he gave me a drink that tasted fine but charged us $46.00 for two drinks. That wasn't in line with the drink prices on the cocktail menu. I felt like I had been robbed. He clearly was taking advantage of us. It left a bad taste in my mouth and we didn't return. The waiter outside forgot to come get us when a table became available.

The hotel is perfectly placed in the heart of London. It takes just 30 minutes to get to Victoria station from Gatwick and then a quick bus number 38 takes you within 20 minutes to enjoy the luxury of Sofitel St. James. A lot of interesting historical and cultural places are situated 10 minutes walking distance.

Potentially I was waiting more from the SPA area which only has a steam room with jacuzzi bath. Maybe the procedures are amazing, but I am a bigger fan of usual sauna, pool and etc.

The most important thing about this hotel was problem solving. They cannot see you any upset and do their best to make you happy and comfortable. I was supported by Ms Agustina Massaccesi who was a bliss during our stay. She helped us meet all of our needs and even beyond. The location of the hotel is superb because it is very near to almost all key attractions of London, and you can do that on foot from this hotel. For farther places you can use the underground metro which is 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast was excellent.

Nothing major

The staff were amazing and accommodating. The room was comfortable and well decorated. The location was great for walking or getting transportation to anywhere in Paris. I would definitely recommend. The dining area and common areas were beautiful- lots of detail.

No view but that was because of location. The views would be with the larger hotels.

The location is great for walking/riding the tube. The concierge was amazing in helping us navigate different parts of the city and finding new places to go. The staff made it so special for our family - they provided a special teddy bear and room key for our son, and the nighttime tea brought to the room every night was a wonderful touch. We honestly couldn’t be happier with our stay.

The location is unbeatable, at the very heart of London and yet relatively quiet. The rooms have excellent noise insulation and we were not bothered at all during the night. The staff was super friendly and attended to all our needs. The restaurant in the hotel, Wild Honey, is something special that has to be experienced. Many other outstanding restaurants in the immediate vicinity, I would highly recommend Aquavit.

If I have to pick a couple of things that could be improved at this level of service (and price) I would say the refillable bottles in the bathroom are not really designed to be refilled, so when the hotel does that, after a few refills the pump eventually breaks down. It is a small thing, of course, but annoying. My other recommendation would be to provide more bottled water in the rooms when the temperature outside goes above 25 Celsius, which I know is rare for London, but it did happen in our case.

front of house staff were excellent, reception, doormen, concierge, restaurant staff -genuinely nice , helpful and at all times professional. We will stay there again.

The maid service was erratic and sloppy. Poorly supervised and it seemed to be a different standard daily -like a lucky dip. This was inconsistent and incongruent with the rest of the service at the hotel and not up to standard.
