Our overall stay was excellent: high quality room, cleaned daily.breakfast was excellent. Service throughout was excellent. We ate in twice. The menu is not extensive enough for 4 nights - it’s a pub ! Apparently they have 29 rooms. At that point the car park would reach capacity, but in normal use perfectly big enough. We used it as a base for Cliveden, Cookham, Hughenden, Marlow, Henley and Waddesdon is just over the hour.

There was nothing we did not like. Keep an eye on your SatNav and check a map as well. The only warning is that the first half mile towards Marlow is downhill on a single track road with passing places. It is signposted to exclude lorries over 7.5-tons but we met several who used it anyway.

Rooms were beautifully designed and exceptionally clean. We stayed in a ground floor room located in the adjacent building to the main pub/restaurant, that was like a luxury hotel as you entered, very modern. The food was superb and a great menu too! Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Our room, being on the ground floor, had french doors to a small seeing area (per room) which was lovely to be able to sit outside your room, however at night it was very warm and you couldn’t open a window. There was a fan but it was an industrial fan so very powerful and noisy. This didn’t distract us from giving an overall 10/10 though.

Cute place with comfortable room in a quiet surrounding. Good night sleep despite the many birds singing in the trees outside our room at 5 am (windows are really not that insulated). Nice powerful shower, tasty food at dinner.

Breakfast really wasn't great and the lady mixed up two things in our order. For the price it's really not worth it. No buffet items or juice available. The staff overall looked quite gloomy and unfriendly. Soft furnishings and decor in room a bit sad and again cold and unwelcoming feel with the majority of grey tones and glassy surfaces. Despite the name, there wasn't a single chess game available in the bar - pity!

This was a one night convenience stay for us. We had been disappointed by a previous hotel stay in Beaconsfield so chose the Chequers Inn more or less at random. It turned out to be fabulous. The ‘stand out’ feature for us was the staff. Every single person we met was cheerful, friendly and very efficient. They made a routine overnight stay really special and enjoyable. The accommodation was clean, functional and modern. Nice but not special. The pub atmosphere in the evening, however was special. Not exciting, just warm, welcoming and friendly. It’s unlikely we will pass this way again but if we do, there is no doubt where we’ll stay.

What didn’t we like? Leaving is the only thing we didn’t like.

Very clean. Lovely food. Friendly helpful staff. The garden room in the annexe was lovely as we were able to sit outside in the evening. Free soft drinks in the mini bar. Tea and coffee in room. Powerful shower. Would definately stay again.

Room was very warm when we visited. A large fan was provided but it was powerful and too noisy to sleep with it on. Maybe a quieter fan needed as being a garden room we couldn't really open the window due to privacy issues as it meant opening the curtains to let air in. Other than that a fabulous stay.

Everything was very good except the few minor points listed below, but would have no hesitation in staying again

The room was so hot (we were in Anex) I had to turn off both radiators and open window to cool off, then later had to leave fan on overnight. The bed would benefit from a mattress topper. The breakfast on Sunday morning was not as relaxing as it should have been because the man who I think was a manager spent the whole time rushing round the room and banging and crashing china. He was asking people what they wanted to drink before they had sat down. I know he was trying to offer a good service but it should be a little less frantic and a bit more relaxed. There were 2 or 3 waitresses as well, so no need for it.

Location to Hedsor House where we had a wedding is 7 minutes drive. The suites are enormous and so luxurious. The bathroom facilities were equally impressive. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and extremely accommodating. Especially Nick who was an absolute star and extremely patient sorting out all of my booking errors for our friends and family. The pub is very deceptive as it looks like a cosy little English country pub but the accommodation on offer was huge including the annex. A great place to stay for wedding guests attending Hedsor.

Loved everything

The room was clean, spacious and well-appointed. The outside seating was useful. It was very quiet in the evening which, given its position near to some busy roads and settlements was a real bonus.

I was told they did a vegetarian breakfast. When it arrived it had an additional grilled tomato but they had simply removed the sausage, bacon and black pudding from the full English breakfast which my brother-in-law had. There was also no difference in price, which seemed like a missed opportunity.

Loved location, friendly staff and exceptional food on a Saturday night.

Breakfast mediocre so presumably a change of chef? We shouldn’t complain though as given to us free as large hornets came into our room during night which we had to kill and reception gave us breakfasts for free. We also had to vacate our rooms at 2.00 am when fire alarms went off and had to stand in car park until all clear. Someone had smoked in their room - we learnt - so not hotels fault.

The pub area was lively and authentic with beams and a typical country pub atmosphere. The restaurant was spacious and airy and great service and food. The rooms in the new building were generous in size and ours was ground floor and had a little seating area outside with French doors. Well thought through with good storage, lovely bathroom, fridge & tea/coffee making facilities. Parking was easy and there seemed to be plenty of space plus EV charging for anyone who wanted it.
