For 12 years I avoided HIEX because the breakfasts had become so bad. Stale bread, microwave-fused troughs of bacon, sausage and unspeakable scrambled eggs in a messy dining area with dirty tables were the norm. This time I only booked out of urgent necessity and location. HOWEVER, the room was updated, clean and quiet ....and I was totally amazed by the breakfast ! Croissants, fresh bread, muffins, cereals, yoghurts and a selection of tasty hot dishes in a spotless dining area. I use hotels a lot and HIEX is back on the list.

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by Jessica who said she would be happy to help if we needed it - my husband is in a wheelchair and I had a lot of unpacking to do. At breakfast next morning, when my husband was unsteady Jessica noticed and stood behind him in case he needed support. So kind and reassuring. We were also very glad that we could get a meal on arrival. Our room was all we could have asked for. The location, being near to the M6, suited us well. Yet the hotel was quiet and everyone was attentive. good breakfast too.

One of the 2 teabags provided fell to pieces so we ended up sharing a teabag first thing in the morning. More robust teabags would be appreciated!

Excellent stay for us both. Just one suggestions . . . at breakfast, would it be possible in all of your hotels, to simply state a distinctive 'sign' stating what is GLUTEN FREE and NUT free items. Maybe put these items just to one side in the food area, so people can easily identify without having to look around. My wife did bring her own Gluten Free bread. There were no labels on the hot food, i.e. sausages, whether these were gluten free. Sadly, there are far too many establishments listing Veggie options before people being Coeliac. Being a vegetarian is an 'OPTION' in life . . . GLUTEN INTOLERANCE is not.

Food was excellent. Just a lack of allergen notices. This is extremely important, when you hear of people having a sudden illness, or even worse, death, from people who have been convinced a product does not contain gluten, or just as bad, contains nuts. Signage is important.

Hotel was welcoming from the outside and looked well kept. Reception area was clean and the receptionist smart and helpful. Room very clean and a good size with a comfortable bed. This room had adaptations for a disabled person. There was a good choice of breakfast and plenty available. As it was a bank Holiday weekend the dining area was very busy and some had to eat in a coffee lounge area. We enjoyed our first stay in a Holiday Inn and will definitely book with them again should we require a hotel in the future.

My only small complaint was that there was no drinking water in the room although there were glasses. There is complimentary drinking water by the reception desk but this had to be taken to the room in glasses which I felt could be dangerous if dropped or spilt in public areas.

Staff were welcoming and helpful, I really appreciated the ground floor room as I had dogs with me. My room was a lovely size and very comfortable

Nothing bad about the actual hotel but it was a shame that some of the other dog owners allowed their dogs to make a mess and not clean up after them. It upsets me that I have well trained dogs that do not mess indoors and that I pick up after outside, as well as bringing crates for them to sleep in and sheets to put over sofas etc to prevent hair being transferred by brushing past the furniture, and yet the selfish actions of others may stop me being able to take my dogs to this really nice hotel 😢

Booked this hotel last minute after a long day of traveling- it was a very good choice. Well situated for M6. The staff on arrival were so polite and welcoming and with complimentary water, ice and a brilliant fan in the room they were keen to make sure we were comfortable during the ongoing heatwave. Our room was spotlessly clean snd with plenty of towels, toiletries and tea/coffee. The breakfast in the morning had plenty of choice to suit all tastes and catered for vegan, vegetarian and allergies. Set us up for the day and our long journey home. Would definitely recommend.

Very good one night hotel stay. I was travelling back from Cornwall to Lake District and it worked perfectly for me. The room was quite large with additional sofa. The hotel does not have aircon however a fan was provided, window was open and curtains closed to keep the heat out (28 C). The room was dog friendly with £30 charge per room (not per dog). Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Outside there is mcdonald's and a pub with nice food and drink. Not much grass for dogs but good enough, very close to motorway. Young lady at the reception was really nice. Breakfast is average but plenty to choose from. I would stay again if I am in the area.

Breakfast was average

I have to wear a medical device at night to help me breathe. There was no socket by the bed to plug it in. The nearest socket was the other side of the room which would have created a safety issue if I had plugged it in. Fortunately the staff were able to give me an extension lead so the wires stayed on the floor. We put a foot towel across the wire in the middle of the room to lessen the chance of tripping over the wires.

We were vey impressed to find the hotel was so pet friendly, we did not feel we were a nuisance or bother to the staff or other guests; everyone was so friendly. Because of our stay date no meal was available in the evening but we were directed to over the road, only 2 mins away to either a Fast Food or Green King Restaurant which we chose. Again our dogs were welcomed and the food and drink were exxcellent. On breakfast in the hotel we were offered suages and water for our dogs too!!! Will come again but ask that pet costs per stay do not increase as we have 2 dogs - many thankss!!!

Nothing really, only maybe a paper in the morning but this is only a thought, Everything was fine!!!

The staff are super friendly and very kind (I have a broken leg at the moment, in a wheelchair & hopping on sticks, really looked after me & more important my Wife who is doing all the ‘leg’ work while I can’t!). Room was warm, cozy and the bed comfortable. Had a beer in the bar, once again very kind staff. Hotel drinks are never cheap but it was no more expensive here than anywhere else. Range was good too, which is unusual for a hotel. Took a pizza for supper, delicious and again not a rip off. Breakfast was included & jolly good. Can’t find any faults and recommend.

Nothing, has a great stay.
