The helpfulness of the staff especially after coming back really late the second night after my event not realising I had to use Mt key to open the main doors the person on the reception desk came round to let me in and didn't make me feel stupid for not realising just greeted me friendly and reassured me

The only thing was a mix up the morning cleaning staff the morning after I booked in thought I was leaving and asked if I had a late check out that's why I was still there. I got nervous thinking they might mistake it another time while I stayed for the long weekend and I had a lot of stuff with me but after talking to the staff they apologised for the mix up and promised they had corrected it so I didnt need to worry about them coming in again. For the rest of my stay

The room was huge, and the air condition worked (it was a summer trip), although at the beginning it smelt a bit because the windows don’t open and it had not been aired out or the A/C set to ventilation. The breakfast is varied, and while continental food isn’t on the buffet, there were several options that, together, made for an enjoyable experience. There’s even grab bags for when you need to hurry to the train for the day’s destination and they don’t mind guests taking away some food for that, unlike most other buffet breakfasts. I had the option to try Marmite (definitely something to try once in your life), sampled a bit of English Breakfast (not something continental people can eat this early in the morning though), piled on marmalade on toast, had natural yoghurt with fruit, etc. The snack options were limited in choice, though staff was nice to prepare me a hamburger without cheese, and the chili con carne was actually very good. There also was a small variety of cocktails, and when they ran out they still were helpful to get me something deliciously fruity. Also, no shortage of tea, milk and brown sugar for the hospitality tray (or even more when asking). The location right next to a well-connected train station served by several different lines was great, I could travel to the Peak District for a vocal workshop, but also take a hiking trip across North Wales by train (alighting at several stations on the way to Llanfairpwll… to see some of the country), and the staffer on desk not only was interested in my day’s story but even could pronounce the full name of that village. Travel from and to London Euston via express train was nice and fast as well, and Euston gave me a nice mid-day meal on the walk to St Pancras Intl and the Eurostar.

The toilet seat is recessed so much that it felt a bit cramped, and to flush you have to push a button hard instead of using a lever, which disabled or elderly people will find rather challenging. The toilet paper tended to fall apart while using a bit. The coleslaw was mostly onion. Alles „Meckern auf sehr hohem Niveau“, war gut, wenn auch nicht gerade billig. (Sorry, I don’t know how to translate that idiomatic expression. It was good.)

The staff were exceptional especially the young people who were at reception in the evening. I found it difficult to choose the breakfast options. Breakfast is not my favourite meal. The room was clean and had a good view if only it was commuters catching the rail replacement buses outside. The evening snacks were excellent.

The dining area could have done with a clean between the evening meal and breakfast. There were bits from the previous night. The shower was a bit cold but luckily it was a hot night.

The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfast was of high quality. My only niggle was that my special request made via Booking.com was allegedly not passed on to the hotel. This was despite me showing an email when checking-in of a reply from Holiday Inn to Booking.com confirming that the request had been noted and Holiday Inn were able and willing to meet it. The receptionist was polite but kept insisting that the email was 'computer generated' despite the personalised content. Other than that, service was excellent.

See above. In fact, there was a suitable room available (fortunately) so no harm was done but there was either a breakdown in communication between Booking.com. and the hotel, or the hotel hadn't noted that a special request had been made and agreed to.

The room layout is well thought out with plenty of plugs in sensible locations for charging phones / using hair dryers and with ledges to put items on while using them. The hair dryer had a long cable meaning you could actually get it up to your head to dry your hair. The room was suitably sized for a few people and was clean as was the bathroom. All public areas were clean and well maintained. complimentary items were available on request if you had forgotten anything like conditioner / toothbrush etc - which was useful as I had! Breakfast was adequate - nothing brilliant but enough. I asked for some vegan sausages and these were served quickly. Almond and soya milk were freely available for non-dairy drinkers. The addition of a special gluten free area was a real positive as this is so important to prevent cross contamination.

Amazing location, ideal parking and on the footprint of the train station more or less!! But you can't hear the trains, sound proofing is excellent. The car park is easy to find, looks new and is a clever design. Looks like the whole area has been regenerated and lots of work has been put in. Plus 15 minute train from Manchester city, amazing. Staff were all super helpful, I'll be back, thank you!! Lighting really clearly designed in the room for soft lighting or brighter, the iron set up was neatly tucked away yet easy to grab and set up, the reading light was also ingenious.

Everything was perfect.

I've stayed here a couple of times before, it's very convenient, and you know what you're getting with a Hi-Ex. I also took the opportunity to walk to Strawberry Studios and take a photo of the plaque (a shrine for fans of old pop music).

The BBC1 HD channel had no sound. I knew this was going to be the case, as it's happened in the last three Holiday Inn Expresses I've stayed in. I can't explain why. Someone has sold Hoilday Inn Express a batch of Samsung tellies on which BBC 1 (Channel 1) will work fine, but BBC 1 HD (Channel 101) will have a perfect picture but no sound. All other channels, inc BBC 2, are fine. A mystery.

Excellent location, right next door to Stockport station & easy to get into Manchester centre & into surrounding areas. Very clean, well-decorated rooms. Good choice of food & drink at breakfast, clean breakfast area with helpful staff.

We got a lift to & from the hotel from family. The road outside the hotel entrance on Station Road is for taxis only & there are double yellow lines & "no stopping" signs for other cars. It took us a while to work out that the official drop-off zone is on Railway Road, outside the railway station entrance. This is only a very short walk from the hotel. Worth knowing about before you arrive, unless you want to risk a fine /annoying the taxi drivers by stopping in the wrong place!

Wonderful staff and so very friendly, especially the breakfast staff! Sue went out of her way to ensure my husband got his gluten free breakfast and brought him a little cake too as a treat. We understand from staff, there is to soon be a dedicated gluten free station at the breakfast buffet, which is just WONDERFUL. So happy to hear this. IHG seem to take dietary requirements really seriously which is very refreshing. All staff never short of a warm smile for their guests and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

The pillows on the bed were quite lumpy and although one was one supposedly firm, and one soft, I couldn't tell the difference. It felt as though they needed replacing and starting afresh. I would also love to see a reduction in parking costs at the adjacent NCP car park which clients need to use if coming by car. Perhaps an agreement between the IHG group and NCP could be tendered soon?

Great location... step out of the train station and it's right there! Then it's easy to walk into town or travel by rail or bus to Manchester or elsewhere. The room was well equipped ( even an iron and ironing board..) with a movable desk and comfy chair, coffee and tea making facilities. The shower is roomier than in most hotel rooms and the room was very clean. Nice touch also with the different pillows ( soft or firm) . The price was also very competitive to similar in central Manchester and as traveling there takes only a few minutes by train ( which run frequently) it makes it a great alternative place to stay when I want to visit there.
