Staff were all very pleasant. Free buffet breakfast had a good selection. Free parking was a bonus. Bed comfortable. Shower was excellent, but folding glass screen was awkward. Very quiet in room 23, could see my car in the car park.

Hand soap in bathroom disappeared for some reason on the second night. A visit to the bar at around 7 pm was a mess. Staff were concentrating on the dinner service which meant the bar was unstaffed - it took me longer to get a drink than to drink it. Long walk and lots of stairs to our room 23. If you want a meal on Friday or Saturday night in Whitstable, best to book in advance. We ended up eating in a pub on Saturday night.

Excellent location. Room was modern, well decorated, and clean, although ours was maybe a bit small. Breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The layout is a bit complicated, so a few signs here and there saying "Rooms x to y this was" "Reception this way" would really help. According to the message sent by the hotel, permits to enter the car park are only issued from 13:00 on the check-in day. We travelled from some distance away and arrived early, so I paid for public parking nearby and went to the reception desk at around 12:30 to find out how to get a permit at 13:00. I was told that a number of guests had already been given permits to enter, and that there were only a couple of spaces left and was given a permit. So it seems that if you follow the instructions sent by the hotel and wait until 13:00 you will lose out.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming house adjacent to the main hotel, and it was an experience I won’t soon forget. The location was absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views of the sea and a historic castle in the distance. Waking up to the sound of waves and the sight of the castle silhouetted against the horizon felt like something out of a dream. The house itself was a delightful throwback to the 1960s, with retro decor that was both nostalgic and stylish. From the vibrant colors to the vintage furniture, every detail added to the unique charm of the place. It felt like stepping back in time, yet with all the modern comforts we needed for a relaxing stay. The weather during my visit was perfect—sunny with a gentle sea breeze. It made exploring the area and enjoying the outdoor spaces even more enjoyable. Whether I was sipping coffee on the terrace or taking a leisurely stroll along the coast, the pleasant climate added to the overall magic of the experience. Overall, my stay at this seaside retreat was nothing short of wonderful. The combination of the stunning views, the quirky 60s decor, and the lovely weather made it a truly memorable getaway. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing escape by the sea.

A perfect location for exploring the town, harbour, and walk to Tankerton. A lovely seaview first floor room.

The sharp wooden corners of the King size bed - ouch! My husband found the bed too soft. Everything else was perfect.

The rooms were clean and well looked after while we were there … The facilities in the room were excellent … The breakfasts were excellent … The dinner menu was a little too limited but expertly cheffed - really impressed … The service from all staff including the youngsters in the restaurant was of a very high standard … Couldn’t fault it

The claim of limited parking is an exaggeration, there is virtually no chance of parking and we were directed to a residential road some 150 yards away which was irritating … It would be a truer description to say there is little chance of parking at the hotel …

Location was fantastic for Whitstable right on the beach with brilliant views of bay and sunsets. The whole building is light and airy. Room was spotless and tastefully decorated , loved the Bruce Williams paintings every where. Breakfast was very good , hot and fresh. All the staff were friendly and welcoming from receptionists, kitchen staff to housekeeping.

There's no lift and lots of stairs but it's an old building with lots of character and can't say ' I didn't like it'! Could have done with a couple of drawers in the room. The car park is very small but get there early, leave car there and take the bus!

We stayed in Penny Lodge. A 3 bedroom house decorated in the 70's style & owned by the Hotel Continental. It's situated right behind the hotel, has its own parking space & is a minutes walk from the beach! It has a flight of stairs up to the single level house from the car back at the back, but is level with the street at the front which was excellent for me as I have mobility issues. The layout of the house was fab & was filled with natural light & sunshine to the back of the property (the main bedroom, bathroom & living room). We especially loved the huge window at the front of the house (the living room) & the sea views from all the back windows! When sitting on the sofa with a morning coffee, afternoon cuppa or glass of vino, you could see the sea! The hotel had provided everything we needed for our stay & more! We ate out most days but there were provisions for cooking if we wanted to. I'm sure if we needed anything extra the hotel would have happily provided for us. The hotel breakfast was exceptional, made daily by Debs who was so lovely! All of the staff including reception, bar, cleaners & waiting staff were very lovely! They were friendly, smiling & attentive. For my first holiday since 2018... staying at Penny Lodge was the best choice I could have made! Especially for my first UK holiday since childhood! I cannot say enough good things about my experience in Whitstable & staying with the Hotel Continental. We will def be back!

Two things: 1. A blind in the bathroom would be much appreciated. Even though the window has privacy glass, it does overlook the car park & with the light on in the evening & the shower being see through I felt expose. My husband put bin bags up to give us privacy. Also a blind in the kitchen as it overlooks the car park also. 2. A little cleaner & little maintenance outside such as removal of cobwebs might be advantageous too.

Really tasteful recent modernisation. Large and very stylish first floor sea view room w giant bed and fab walkin shower big enough for two! Pleasant professional staff, good breakfast in attractive airy and light modernised restaurant. Free on site parking for half a dozen cars w plenty of council parking in front. Good location on sea front about ten minutes walk to great pubs and restaurants.

Good cooked breakfast but unimaginative cereal starter options, no porridge, and downmarket crockery and cutlery compared with the otherwise classy refurbishments

Loved that it was right on the beach front and was perfect for a chill few days. Breakfast included a full English which was great, and also had a bar so you could have a rest there before going up to your room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Whitstable itself was lovely and we really enjoyed walking along the sea front and going along the high street that had many independent shops. If you enjoy your beer then most places served the local brews which were lovely.

Nothing really on the hotel, just be mindful it's a fair walk to the high street. But we knew that and it didn't bother us, we walked pretty much everywhere anyways.

The location of the hotel is really good, right on the sea side. We didn't book a sea view room but we did have a nice little terrace with some deck chairs to enjoy the last summer sun. The room itself was really tiny, really small but very comfortable to be honest. Good not too soft mattress, good bed. Nice clean bathroom with good warm shower. Everything was really clean. Breakfast was good as well, good croissants! We did miss some cheeses/ham etc but there were eggs, sausages, beans etc... Staff friendly. Free parking in the back. We'd come back for sure!

Room was very small, if you travel with big suitcases this might be a bit difficult. But we didn't ;-) and it was a cosy comfortable room in the end.
